  1. I think you have a short window of opportunity to claim the space, as I suspect Dapol are far from ready to think about it and Farish who will think about it in time have plumped for the 8F next and wont risk duplication later. I would certainly want two in GWR livery.
  2. Adam Warr at Electra Graphics has already prepared a trial set of vinyls for a previous 303 project but could not source the cab ends. Adam has been laid low but i'm hoping that if I can make the ends available he might resurrect the project at some point. My plan is to make very good masters (no lines and smooth) from which I can create a mold for resin casting. I am also experimenting with clear 3D printing resin to allow transparent windows, but they are harder to get the surface quality. So yes they might very well be available, but a bit of work to do yet. I want to build some Glasgow "Blue Trains"
  3. The orientation does not matter as the lines are circular, like the height line on an OS map. The final versions will be printed at twice this resolution - at 50 micron - but my resin is old and too thick to do this reliably. At this point I am using the old resin for tests on the dimension so I can figure out the best coach bodies to use etc. This print is at 50 micron and you can see the improvement in the lines but the print is less distinct with the old resin. Mind you its the size of a thumb nail and the eye does not see most of what the camera sees.
  4. Here is a better version - slightly larger to match a Farish Mk1 coach body. The printing lines can be removed with a fiberglass scratch pen.
  5. I have been playing around with a scanner and a 3D printer with the objective of producing cab ends for a set of Glasgow Caledonian Blue Class 303 electric units. I used to live next to their Hyndland depot. Here is where I have got to. This is an output file from a digital prober. And this is the output from a 3D printer. Note the step sizes are 0.01mm and the fringing effect is due to the printer and will be less at a higher resolution. I have a set of draft vinyl side artworks from Adam Warr and hopefully I might persuade him to resurrect his Class 303 project. N.B. The ends can be printed in clear plastic
  6. Hi all, everyone who requested transfer sets in advance have had sets sent out. I still have a few sets left so if anyone else wants a set now is the time to let me know. thanks David
  7. I have my own High resolution 3D printers, its the CAD that's the hard bit
  8. Thats a shame. The vinyls stretch over the openings like a drum skin. You then paint the inside with canopy transparent glue for strength.
  9. Yes, I did say they were the earlier available versions, however I still prefer them as it is virtually impossible to file out your windows and the earlier versions can easily have detail added. Have you thought of revisiting your CAD to open up the windows? also they would use less plastic and be cheaper as well. I'm planning a few more 165'so I would be interested if you did. David
  10. Its this part by N-Trains https://www.shapeways.com/product/53CZ99BG9/n-gauge-165-cab-pair?optionId=2401404
  11. Its Shapeway ends - the original ones available about 2 years ago - fitted to class stripped 170 Farish bodies and Electra Graphics added.
  12. A quick note on fitting the Perspex windows. when the laser cuts the perspex the walls are sloped. They are cut to fit a painted window opening, so you can edge with black and then glue in the window with canopy clear adhesive. NB the perspex has a plastic film to protect the surface from glue which can be picked off with tweezers.
  13. I have now received the Adelante First Great Western and First Hull transfers and the completed model in First Great Western in in my latest post. The set does a five car set in First Great Western or First Hull. If you would like a set the cost will be £45 for a 5 car set of transfers. In addition I am laser cutting in Perspex side windows and door windows to go with the Shapeway prints at £12 for sufficient for a five car set. If you would like a transfer set or windows please make payment to my PayPal account (or directly to me) at the address DJAC@calderwoodhan.com and send me an email to this address giving the following. Your forum name and your username on that forum so I know who you are PayPal transaction number so I can match up the payment Full postal name and address What and how many of each item you wish. Transfer only will be shipped immediately and if windows are ordered they will take a few extra days as I will cut them to order. I only have a limited number of transfer sets (currently 23). those of you who have already requested have been PMed. David
  14. The transfers look very good. A bit fiddly as some of the items are very small but the effect is very realistic. There are a few minor adjustments needed but nothing a sharp scalpel wont fix. Once I mat varnish the roof it will be complete.
  15. In process shot, first transfers drying, but I'm more than impressed by the quality of the transfer and how they look. It going to take a few days to do them all allowing fro proper drying.
  16. The transfers have arrived I'm going to take a few days to check they are OK and then I will be in touch with those that have requested sets.
  17. I cut them on my laser, but as the laser "trims" thous it has to be trial and error so I would need the actual opening to ensure a good fit.
  18. I have just had the final production costs confirmed and the transfer sets will be £45 for a five coach set. I will also be making laser cut perspex side windows and door windows at £12 for a five coach set. These will be sent in cardboard backed envelopes. Can I have any further expressions of interest by the 1st August.
  19. If you believe the press they will all end up at Great Central over the next 10 - 15 years with the direction of travel GWR to First Hull to Great Central. NB they are all owned by Angel Trains and they will move as their leases run out if they are not renewed, depends of how fast the Hitachi electro diesels come in.
  20. The Hull logos and unit numbers are included in the set as they are a variant of the First GWR set, and allows any Class 180 in any First Group Dynamic Lines Livery to be modeled. This is important as there will be swapping around over the next few years as the new GWR Hitachi units come in to service. I have been led to believe the Adelante units wont be repainted the new GWR green for this reason.
  21. Just arrived by email overnight. These are photos of the final transfer set. Here they are applied to a paint sample I sent which is Halford's Vauxhall Atlantis Blue. Note the lower two are the correct ones, the top two were a white balance test.
  22. A quick update. The transfers are being printed this week (in Tasmania) and I should have them by the end of the month. I will post as soon as I have details and costs.
