  1. Same Phil. Really could do with some modelling funds with the sale of this stock.
  2. Evening everyone I thought it was worth posting an update. As of now the majority of locomotive stock has now been sold. I do have some stock still available which maybe of interest: 1. 57XX 5742 (Fully detailed and weathered) 2. Presflo Wagons x 2 (Fully weather and detailed with screw link couplings) 3 .Non Corridor kit built coaches Collett E157 Brake Composite and Hawksworth E167. Both of these coaches are not available RTR or as a full kit. Both were built/scratch built by Jonathan Wealleans of this parish using Worsley Works sides I had commissioned along with Comet parts. Very much two bespoke coaches, and of particular interest to Western Region Modellers. 4. Lenz 100 DCC system and Transformer There are other bits and pieces on offer, which I'm happy to discuss......in particular the layout itself!
  3. Here are some recent commissions I finished. The client kindly provided me with photographs to work from. I particularly liked working on the 08 Shunter and USA Dock tank.
  4. Things didn't work out with fitting the Narrow Planet motion to Skarloey. Tony has done a full write up in 'Wright Writes' below. I'm going to look at retro fitting the original overscale cylinders to Skarloey for the time being so I can get him finished, and then see about retro fitting NP motion when they re-release the motion kit. Special thanks to Tony for his help today. It proves I wouldn't have managed on my own.
  5. Simmering under the trees on a crisp autumnal morning...
  6. Thanks guys! Off down to Tony Wright’s shortly for some help putting the etched motion detailing kit from narrow planet on SKARLOEY. It will be great to have both engines on the layout at last.
  7. Thanks for the kind comments guys! It’s been such an exiting journey making Scaca and this was my first venture in creating such a variety of scenics. North Wales, the Lake District and the Awdry books themselves were the inspiration for the scenics themselves and that seems to have worked well. The water tower and aqueduct used inspiration from Ty Dwr on the Talyllyn for the actual look of the stone work and weathering, but the actual design comes from the Awdry books. Today I’m heading off down to Tony Wright’s for some help putting the etched piston rods on Skarloey. Then both old engines will be together again at last, to work their little line in the Eastern District of Sodor. Oh and plans are afoot on the next Skarloey layouts…..after so many failed projects, making the fictional Awdry world ‘real’ seems to be my calling.
  8. Thanks John Yes, I went with the later reprints, and got them for a decent price too!
  9. No worries, we all have to learn these things at some point. Boyd was one of the pioneers of the Talyllyn Railway and wrote a number of books. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I._C._Boyd
  10. Thanks Ian and take care. I'm over the Pennines in the Yorkshire Dales. I drove over to Lancashire today to meet my Mother for a birthday lunch in the Trough of Bowland. Very little rain other than on the way home a bit....but I've seen the photos around Keswick and the flooding. I love Lakeland, and go hiking most weekends. Stay safe!
  11. Thanks Ade, yes we did thank you. It was fairly quiet just Lass and myself. I have ordered several books on the Welsh Highland and the Ffestiniog which I'm really looking forward to arriving. Meanwhile, in the East District of Sodor: It is a crisp autumn morning in the Benglas Valley, after a night of heavy rain fall. David Vickers is heading down to check on his 'Sudrian Shorthorns' with border collies Fly and Nell, while one of the 'Forestry Gangers' takes a break after clearing the crossing of mud. With the forestry vehicles passing back and forth over the crossing and the amount of rainfall around the fells, the crossing has the potential to become choked with mud and earth. This responsibility is that of the Sudrian Forestry Commission, due to previous occasions where both 'SKARLOEY' and 'RHENEAS' have derailed.
  12. Thank you all for your lovely messages. I've had a quiet day pottering about, and doing a bit of weathering (more on that later in the week). Here's another scene from Scaca Fell Forestry Crossing: Autumn 1943 All this military involvement has soured Bill Thwaite's love for the little railway, a railway that had been his life from the age of 12, when he became an engine cleaner in 1890. Next week Bill will hand in his notice to Foreman Mr David Hugh and General Manager Mr Roger Sam as he formally retires.
  13. One quarry worker ponders his future, as news reaches the men of the death of Sir Handel Brown. The future looks fairly bleak for the men of this remote Sudrian valley. Could there be a glimmer of hope?
  14. Thanks Nick! Not got much planned, nipping out shortly to Tesco (living the dream ). In the meantime, some more shots with the new figures: With the War Department's acquisition of some of the old slate workings...it does feel like the War has finally arrived to this remote valley of East Sodor.
  15. Much appreciated Chris, thank you! Well tomorrow is my birthday, so other than doing a little bit of weathering, I plan to do some more posing of the new figures that have arrived freshly painted from @Dan Evason
  16. 'Autumn 1950.... With Bill Thwaite now retired and Ben Taylforth leaving to become a cleaner on the North Western, Ivo Hugh puffs on his pipe and ponders the future of the Skarloey Railway.' Many thanks to @alanbuttler for producing some figures based on scenes from the Railway Series, and to @Dan Evason superb painting skills.
  17. Morning all Just waiting for a friend to come over before we head out on a hike up Gunnerside Gill in Swaledale. In the meantime, No. 2 'RHENEAS' is running around the War Department vans, in preparation to propel them towards the ammo depot. There are rumours flying around at the moment.....rumours of some interesting things arriving in the post from a certain Dan Evason.......there are also rumours that No. 1 'SKARLOEY' may make a big step forward to completion by the end of the week. I can neither confirm or deny this hearsay.....
  18. A touch of post holiday blues. So decided to head off to the layout for a bit of a pick me up. 'A moment between workings'
  19. Back from a fantastic time away in Snowdonia. Everything feels a bit flat and down today. Definitely feeling the post holiday blues.....but I've come away with some great memories, and a lot of modelling inspiration.
  20. Some Mid Sodor exploration today! We ( Rmweb member @Quarryscapes and by my Border Collie Lass) hiked alongside the Ffestiniog to the Dduallt Spiral, then onto the old Ffes track formation down to the Tan y Grisiau Hydroelectric Power Station's Reservoir. A fantastic day, with the odd shower more than made up for by the glorious autumnal sunshine. A lot of railway modelling inspiration today!
  21. Many thanks for those Geraint. Funnily enough I saw one today, at the back of the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, which we snapped today while travelling on the Galslyn Venturer.
  22. Morning all, here is a little something from me. Currently tweaking Scaca Forestry Crossing and have some additional trees on order from polish company, MBR. Adding some ever green types into the hillside foliage. Here is a few using the garden as a bit of a backdrop. Next week the layout goes to North Wales.....being an Awdry location based on the Talyllyn Railway, some shots of the layout with mountains of south Snowdonia is a must. Looking forward to seeing Tony the week after. I have motion to build for No. 1 'SKARLOEY' which I've kept putting off through fear of messing up. Tony is kindly going to give me a hand with putting it together.
  23. 74XX sold E147 kit coach sold Toad Brake Van sold pending payment 58XX currently reserved.
