  1. Just read in the prototype railway magazines that the Midland mainline might be having Mk 4 coaches with hst power cars to run services in the future.

Also short hst 2+4 and 2+5 units will be used in Cornwall and Scotland.

This is something you would normally see on a child’s layout or with someone who has not done their research.

Is the real railways doing research through the model press to get ideas on how to run the railways?

  2. I was pleased when I found Kent Garden Railways near my house. Over the years Andy and his team have been able to supply my needs.

Especially when I was trying to finish a N gauge layout for my club’s exhibition and needed more ballast. He was there to provide it the same morning and I was able to complete the layout in time for the exhibition. Had I had to get it from other ‘large places’ I may have had to withdraw from the show.

Andy is loyal to the local clubs and goes a long way to keep his clients happy.

REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR LOCAL MODEL RAILWAY SHOPS!

When they are gone, they are gone!

North London has lost a lot of shops. Let’s stop the rot!

  3. Thanks for you quick replies!

I am only researching the idea at the moment, so do not need any models. Thanks for the offer Flood. ( I thought you only knew about carriages! )

I think the main problem is coupling up different manufacturers units. Not too bad with tension lock types. But when it comes to electrical interconnections, home made adaptions are required.

  4.

Well this evening's exploits saw me take a paint brush to £240 worth of 'hard to get' XC HST coaches, and their corresponding power cars.....some people may think it's madness but I just couldn't stand looking at the Hornby plastic any longer! I'd already attacked one of the TFs and turned it in to a TCC so doing the rest of the set was the next logical thing to do.

Great layout! You mention converting a TF into TCC. How did you do it? Any photos?

  5. Great to see this layout at Chatham!

This is one of the layouts that looks as good as it does in real life, as on website photos!

    Top marks!

Good luck for when you rebuild the fiddle yard traverser.

Might have to scratch make some fertilizer bags for loads!

  6. Ok here is an update!

The last photo is of board 16. This with boards 14 and 15 are the 'Country' section. 15 and 16 now have the cutting side and fields scenery. The bridge has been completed.

We have various teams working together on the layout. Each one lead by an 'expert'.

The S&T team are wiring the MERG system through out the layout.Currently on board 10 wiring in the servo control boards for the major junction.

In front of them are the permanent way team laying the hand built track using C&L components. This is a hard task as the points are made to plans from templot and need to be accurate.

Sometimes the S&T lads get carried away and wire up a board, only to discover that there is no track on the other side!

  7. Repeatedly posting a picture that most people have seen before risks becoming tiresome, but just in case you didn't see this, Peter, it might show some detail that is of interest.

Is that first van a 'shock van'? With the white markings on the side. Where they still in use at this time, or was the shock springs isolated?
