    Dapol Class 22

Hi Keith, I have tried a few and the cab lights work on F1 and F2 respectively if that helps? This should mean you can have both cab lights on at once if you need / want to as well. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi 90211, i am sorry to hear of your dissapointment regarding your model. Can i suggest this solution to your problem? In less than a month i have some more green SYWP through, and i have some that i can use as spares. My suggestion is that you enjoy your model for now, noise and all, and PM me just before Christmas and i'll arrange a chassis swap for you with one thats quieter? Please PM me and let me know if thats ok for you? cheers Dave

Hi chaps, Reading that Ultrascale might be having this rethink, i'll withdraw from the field pending their decision, as they are a specialist in this part of the market and i will respect their business. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi everyone, I have asked China to quote me for the P4 wheel sets for the class 22, and they have come back to me with a tooling and unit price. The unit price would be for 8 wheels on axles of £19.95 per set. However to allow Dapol to break even on the deal we need to cover our tooling costs, and this would mean selling 350 sets. (This covers tooling and the unit costs of the 350 sets) Now, not knowing of the demand for these wheels, we can only judge by how many names come forward so i'm hoping. (fingers crossed emoticon). cheers Dave

Ah but you will find plenty of pictures of the class with dirty grilles though. :-) Granted the 'wash' in the grills is a little thickly applied but it's not black Cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi guys, I concur with Andy, A BR Blue version should be here next week, and then at least 1 green and a blue one in 3 weeks time. As you can imagine, flying them in is VERY expensive, so apart from the BR blue one that will come by air, the rest are by sea. (fully converted to 21 pin by the way). Now this time of year production space is at a premium, as is container space, as Dapol, along with other model railway companies do not 'fill' a container but ship usually to Hong Kong, where the models take up a part of a container for onward shipping. This usually means via the Middle East and Rotterdam or sometimes Hamburg. sometimes the container will remain unopened and continue its journey when the ship does, however it has been known (more often than not recently) that a container will be offloaded for unpacking of the relevant items that form part of the containers shipment, to then be repacked and onward shipped on the same.......ship. Oh, and dont get me started on customs and docks that shut due to high winds etc. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Ok, here's an idea! If someone supplies me with a spec for the wheels you want, how about I approach my Chinese factory and ask them for a price / feasibility? No promises mind, but it might just be a profile 11 spoke option for the fine scalers! Let me know what you think Cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi everyone, As promised here is an update of the state of play with the 21 pin / 22 pin situation i announced both here and on the web site yesterday. Given information from China and also thanks to you who posted the cure here, i have today converted ALL remaining stock of Class 22's that were due to go out to stockists yesterday. These were models that were pre-sold and hadnt gone out intime and amounted to a considerable number. They have now been done, and the bottom of the box has a sticker saying that its had the modification, so if you havnt purchased yet you will know what to look for if your wanting to convert the model to DCC. As the model stands, it will accept the following DCC decoders without the need for modification; Locsound4 + TCS 621 that we know of as these are 21 pin but have the 22nd socket present as a reduntant hole in the socket. As a new customer who has purchased one and doesnt like the idea of snipping the pin shown on the picture on page 20 of this thread, i suggest in this instance returning it to your stockists for either modification there, or having them send on to us for me to do it here. Please note that Dapol will honour this modification with warranty cover, and should you make a complete 'horlicks' of the cutting of the pin, then we will also either repair it ourselves for you, or supply a replacement 21pin PCB board for you to fit as soon as i have them. The conversion takes about 90 seconds and the replacement PCB fitting take about 5 minutes if you do these yourselves. I will post PCB wiring scematics here soon, once i have them. Once again apologies for this problem, but trust me, we will do everything in our power to put it right for you. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi everyone, Just a short press release from us, and i hope you understand how bad i feel about it. I will comment more tomorrow when i have answers from China. To all those this affects i am personally Sorry. Dave. Press release as follows; Having already gone through this process in the last 24 hours with the 10000 models for Hattons, we have just discovered that our new class 22 model features the same fault for those that run DCC (DC is fine and will operate normally) That the 21 pin DCC socket that the PCB board is fitted with, has, without our knowledge been altered to a 22 pin socket and blanking plug. As you can imagine after all our hard work this has left us devastated as this was not uncovered unitl this morning (Tuesday 22nd November). The cure we believe, is a simple snip of 1 of the pins on the socket, but until we get corroboration from China tomorrow morning we are unable to confirm this. We are at a loss to understand how this could have happened when our approval models were 21 pin and we had fitted sound to 1 model. So for now, we do of course apologise, and i will post an update for you by this time tomorrow, with a diagram and pictures of the modification for those that wish to undertake it themselves, and instructions for the return of the models for modification for those that dont wish to do it themselves. Modified models will come with a sticker on the bottome of the box reading "Class 22 DCC 21 pin modified, Ready for use".If you intend to run your model on DC only , please do not worry, your model is unnafected bu this extra pin and will not need modifying as it will run as you expect it to. Once agan we are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and will endevour to put it right within days. I

    Dapol Class 22

Oh and to Clarify again Baldrick, Kernow certainly did know about D6331 as i spoke personally to the owner yesterday about their models and was asked to take some to Warley (they are in the van) and send the balance to Kernow, whcih will arrive today! i hope you believe me when i tell you this as i have it on very good authority.....................my own!!! cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi Baldrick, sorry i thought i had made myself clear, and i apologise for the confusion. All stockists of Dapol products attending Warley were contacted with the offer of me personally taking Class 22 models to Warley for them. Some said yes, some said no. No matter what, all those that said no will be getting theirs today, all those that wanted some at Warley will be getting those today, and the balance of their orders will be arriving at their respective shops today as well. Hope this clarifies things. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi Baldrick, must be a misscommunication somewhere. ALL the batch of D6331 have been made and delivered. There will be no more of that running number so I'd either wait till Monday before contacting your stockist or see them at warley if your going. Cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

To clarify, only D1000f. Running number D6331 in green SYP have been shipped over and we have had the full consignment of them. They have today gone out to stockist who ordered them and we are taking stock to all the Dapol stockists at Warley, but only their 'spares' as the others are already spoken for with customers. Hope this makes sense and helps? Cheers Dave
  15. DapolDave

    Dapol Class 22

Not as many as i'd like as they are all sold out at Dapol (not stockists as far as i know), and stockists attending the show who have ordered some will have theirs on sale. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

    Class 26

Hi Bernard, Our model is of the 1960's era class 26 with leaf spring bogies, open door window (not plated), square bogie footsteps, correct roof shoulder grilles, nose doors (not plated/ welded) drop down cab side windows etc oh and disc headcodes. Hope this helps. Dave.

    Dapol 'Western'

Ah Simon, Did you know about my insistence (i think earlier in this thread) of the pipes under the fuel tank being included, or sprung buffers being part of the spec.? And we are working on the bogie brake rodding and brake distances and alignment to the wheels. cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Looking at O gauge locomotives, what really strikes me ,(given that i have done some homework on this gauge in the past with my factory) is the retail prices. Heck i couldnt honestly see a Western or a 22 at anything over £299.95 as i know how much profit there is in them at the current 2 motor spec. Basically who knows what we are doing next? ok, i do, but i'm not telling. cheers Dave
  24. DapolDave

    Dapol Class 22

O gauge? hmmmmmm there's an idea especially as we will have accurate cad/cam's for both the 22 AND a Western :-) cheers Dave

    Dapol Class 22

Hi 10800, Thanks for the mail. If i can find a plain green version for the second run that matches the details on our model i will definitely do one of those, however the disc version 22 will be about a year or so away as we have to design that. Luckily we have the original works drawings for the front, but the roof and bodyside grilles, like the current one may prove problematical. Oh, wheres a time machine and a laser scanner when you want one cheers Dave
