  1. According to Bradley, they were only used at first on gthe main-line WoE Expresses. By June 1947, they were used on Wloo´- Salibury and Wloo - Weymouth semi-fasts (superseded by 62`ft stock). In 1959, Sets sets 963 .-972 were re-allocated to S&D line Services, while 973-9 were re-allocated to Central area Services. Finally, set 978 served on the Hayling Island branch until closure. Just right for the new Terriers! By the way, has anyone seen a three-quarter pictube of the Bk 3rd? - Do we get the set numbers on the coach ends as Hornby have done with some of their Maunsell Caches?
  2. "Westminster" was at Dunstable Cement Works (Blue Circle/APCM) from May 1929 to 5/52 when it was transferred to their works at Shipton-on-Cherwell, Oxon.,. In the IRS book of Bedfordshire there is a nice picture of its sister "Edith" P 1391/15 that worked there as well. I shall use some poetic licence and use it on my layout of the Blue Circle works at Westbury.
  3. Ho How doers this Version of the LSWR brake van differ from that being produced by Kernow?
  4. In the file, Hornby state "There's one more exclusive sample for you, the Decoration Sample of the West Country Class ‘Bideford’ (R3638)" Is this anything more than just another West Country from the existing tooling or is there anything new to make it worthy of a mention in the Engine Shed?
  5. Have now found a photo of 2421 in 1933 still with the Fittings in original condition. Hadn't realised that these changes were made so late after SR take over. Presumably the headcode disc for Newhaven boat Trains was attached to the handrail on the lh side of the smokebox. Has cheered me up, all I have to do now is to get some brake rods from Bachmann.
  6. I too have purchased a model of "South Foreland" and I am sorry to say that the loco does not (to me) truly represent the condition of the loco in the 1930`s after the Maunsell modifications and the renumbering to 2421. Namely, the chimney, dome, whistle and lamp Irons are all still in the original LBSC condition and the snifiting valves and extra lamp Irons left and right on the smokebox fitted by Eastleigh are not there. If one looks at the Picture of the loco on P79 of "Brighton Atlantics" taken in 1947 (albeit with Malachite green livery) one can see all These omissions clearly. However, when Looks at the (so far) only Picture of 31-921 "Beachy Head" in BR lined black all of these Errors have been corrected. What Bachmann should do then, is to the the moulding of the BR Version and paaint it in SR Olive or Malachite grren livery. By the way, in the accessories pack there are no loco or tender brake gear mouldings´. Has anyone else had this problem? Otherwise an excellent model, although I haven`t tried to run it yet.
  7. I queried the matter with Hattons yesterday and have just received the following reply - "At this current time, we are awaiting a response from Hornby in relation to it. Sorry I do not have any further information for you at this time." Let's wait and see if and what the formal resoponse from Hornby is.
  8. Yes, but I suspect ´these were fitted after the locos were transferred to the LMR - they put shedplates on everything, even the ex_LNWR 7F's. But I have not seen such a thing (nor the "5P" power classification) when they were running on BR(S). I suspect that this may be becase they were never formally based at Nine Elms - all the refuelling and light servicing seems to have been done at Waterloo North sidings. Just wondered if someone out there knew more than me.
  9. I see that R3618 is starting to appear at various retailers. Has anyone had a good lok at it? Is it any different to the last Rebuilt Bulleid that they produced?
  10. Did any of the Bulleid diesels ever carry a shedcode plate in SR days? If so, where was it fitted?
  11. Yes, 247 Developments have only the GWR "Baloon stack" type and the L&Y Pug "flat disc" type. I will have to keep on looking
  12. I ordered 30089 because it was a Friary engine. There are several Pictures of it in and around Friary and the Turnchapel & Cattewater branches. It carried a spark arrester on top of the chimney, of course, particularly for working into the woodyards. I have a Friary shedplate but Need to get a süark arrester from somewhere - any ideas.
  13. I understand that four were sold off and used elsewhere. The preserved 110 come instantly to mind, sold off to Cannock Colliery and now on the IoW. So perhaps we will get an NCB liveried one later. I am modelling the Taw Valley, so a rebuilt E1/R at later date would be ideal for me.
  14. Had an E-Mail yesterday from Hattons to say that my one had arrived. Anyone know about the Status of the Dapol "Special" in the Adams pea-green livery?
  15. Hallo, I have ´three books about the 05 class, all in German,. They are "Stromlinie" by A.B. Gottwaldt, TransPress; "Schnellverkehr der Reichsbahnzeit" Publisher GeraMond; and " Eisenbahn Journal 3/2001 "Dampf Gignaten - Classes 05 - 06 - 45" The last two have loads of Pictures, the first one more text including the Dynamometer car printout for the 2004 km/h,. I don't know if one canm get These books in the UK but lLet me know if you need any more help.
  16. You may be interested to know that 05.002 also had problems with the middle bearing when it shut off steam suddenly and braked after achieving the 200.2 kmh.
  17. Have just had an E-Mail from Hattons saying:- "We have received information from Bachmann that the first of three forthcoming SECR 'Birdcage' coaches in South Eastern and Chatham Railway lake livery is due into stock imminently: 39-600 - 60' SECR Birdcage brake composite 1174 in SE&CR dark lake Bachmann have advised that the other two coaches from this set will arrive separately and are likely to be delivered to retailers in early 2018. 39-610 - 60' SECR Birdcage composite 1178 in SE&CR dark lake 39-620 - 60' SECR Birdcage brake third 1182 in SE&CR dark lake We understand that the majority of our customers will have 2 or more of these coaches on Pre-Order however we advise that any Pre-Orders you may have for these coaches is set to dispatch items as they arrive as these coaches are expected to sell out soon after arrival and potentially prior to the arrival of the remaining two coaches. We are in discussion with Bachmann as to ascertain an exact date for when the remaining coaches will arrive and we will pass on this information as soon as we receive it." At least 1/3rd of an Xmas present for me!
  18. According to "Finsbury Park DMD 1960 - 1983",they originally had a Cowan's Sheldon 75 ton crane, ADB 966112, painted red and with an assortment of vans. Did this come from 34A? This was replaced at some stage by a red-liveried 45-ton Cowan's Sheldon crane from Thornaby, ADRC 95222 which stayed to the depot's closure in 1981.
  19. Talking about skirts, is the follow up to the J70 going to be a Class 04 fitted with skirts (e.g. 11102) to carry on the good work on the W&U tramway once the J70's were scrapped? Not a bad idea, I would think
  20. Interesting that Bradley seems to have changed his mind. No. 90 certainly seems to be pea-green rather than olive green, so it would seem Dapol are correct as No. 91 would be from the same Batch. There is a book "The B4 Dock Tanks" - perhaps if anyone has a copy of this it might some more light on this Topic. Anyway, thanks to Dapol for producing such superb little models.
  21. The Club model is very nice and looks lovely in its Adams pea-green livery and I have ordered one to go with my Hornby LSWR-liveried Terrier - both were based at Exeter. However, I think the number as No. 91 is incorrect with this livery as according to my information (Bradley) on Nos. 85 - 87 received this livery, the rest the olive green goods livery. Can anyone confirm this and even produce a photo of locos in this livery? A beautiful little model though.
  22. Not just for Southern Region modellers. Remember that they were also used on the Eastern (GC, GN & GE sections) and on the Midland as well for a short time. I would like a couple of blood and custard Tavern cars behind my Prince Palatine on the "Master Cutler".
  23. I have been trying to find out what has happened to "Little Barford". It was at the Middy for some time but is now at Fengate Farm at Weeting in Norfolk. It runs on a short stretch of track there and is in steam during the Weeting Steam Rally held every year. The next chance to see it in steam is July 2018. The loco is now painted brown without any wasp stripes. but looks very nice from the photo on their website. Does anyone have a source of information about North Acton Power Station where it worked. I lived in Acton for the first few years of my life but never took any interest in the Power Station when I visited there later. I have seen a picture on flickr showing it working a short train of mineral wagons towards the tipper that emptied the coal into the storage bunkers below.
  24. I have looked at the RT models Website and they do loads of accessories fopr the MN & WC pacifics but no tender or cabside plates. It seems as if I will have to wait for CGW to settle down in Birmingham. Does anyone have a tel no.?
