  2. A good day yesterday despite the weather, our new bypass closed again because of flooding! Cleared last night. Lots of visitors, and very good exhibits. Hope to see more today. Alastair.
  3. Set up by 7pm. Hope the weather isn't as bad tomorrow as it is tonight. Alastair.
  4. Burnham is serviced and ready. We're in the middle of packing for a house move, it'll be good to relax with trains. Alastair
  5. Back home and put away. Thanks to Mark and his team for a very enjoyable, relaxing weekend. Bridgford ran well, just a pity no one wanted to give it a new home, so the hunt goes on. Lots of interest in the trains. Alastair.
  6. I took Bridgford to Crewe Works weekend in May 2003, at the request of the LMS Society. I assumed that it would be insured, but didn't ask until after the event, only to find that there was no insurance for the models. I was lucky as despite the fact that the shed was open to the elements the only damage I had was a leaky roof, and we moved the layout a foot or so and it was OK. I was invited back in Sept 2005, not sure now by whom, but I asked and was told that insurance was up to me. A fellow club member who had a memorabilia stand decided to insure our exhibits, but I put my locos on the track in the mornings and took them home at night. I think it cost us about £40 to insure both exhibits. It taught me a lesson. Alastair.
  7. Bridgford is ready to go for what will be its last show with me, 72 since 1997. Hopefully someone else will take it on, as I no longer have room for it and we are all getting older! Alastair.
  8. Looking forward to a good weekend, Burnham is ready to go Alastair.
  9. Thanks, Andy. I'll check those sites. I want to trail a couple of Red Vans behind my railcars, and maybe build a trailer later when I get the layout going. Regards, Alastair.
  10. I am planning a layout of Glenties, and am looking for a couple of Red Wagons either kit or built. I bought the stock of Ballyfoyle from Ian Hallworth as the layout is no more but he'd kept the stock. We're in the process of downsizing so I'm hoping to do it in 8ft X 2. After 45 years in N it's strange working with bits I can see! Still keeping Burnham-on-sea so I should have the best of both worlds. Alastair.
  11. Greetings. I intend to build a layout of Glenties and looked in a book on the CVR for possible diagrams of the wagons which became Red Vans on the CDR. No joy but I did find a couple of timetables of the CVR for 1941. Are they of any use to anyone or is there a museum of CVR? They must have come from my parents, father was the Presbyterian minister in Ballygawley from 33 until 47 and I was born there in 41. Also some pictures of the Fintona horse tram. Let me know. Regards, Alastair Knox.
  12. Back home and put away by 8pm after a very enjoyable weekend. Layout ran well considering its age, and ours! We had two invites to other shows which is nice considering the above comments. Thanks to David Rayworth and the club for their hospitality. Alastair. . ..
  13. Sheffield Model Railway Enthusiasts present their exhibition this weekend in Birkdale School, Oakholme Road, Sheffield S10 3DH. Open 10 till 5 on Saturday, 10 till 4-30 Sunday. See their website or UK Model Shops for details. There are 18 layouts in various scales and full trade support, and the weather looks good.
  14. That's it over for another year. Everyone seems happy, layouts ran well and we had a good crowd of spectators. Leisure centre handed back by 6-30. Thanks to all who attended and all who helped in any way to make the weekend a success. See you next year! Alastair.
  15. Beautiful day here, ready to move. Access is from 5pm, due to other organisations using the hall. Looking forward to s good weekend. Alastair.
  16. Is it that weekend already? Seems no time since we started planning. Weather is forecast to be snowless, so we can stop worrying. Bridgford is in its trailer ready to go. Hope to see old and new friends there. Alastair.
  17. New Mills & District Railway Modellers present their 45th Annual Exhibition in Chapel-en-le-frith Leisure Centre, Long Lane, Chapel SK23 0TQ. The venue is all in one hall with easy disabled access. Refreshments are available. Plenty of parking . There are 14 layouts in a variety of scales, the centrepiece being Chapel Central station from the Leeds club, the 12" to the foot version of which is about half a mile away. There are about 6 demos and full trade support. Open from 10 until 5 on Saturday, closing at 4-30 on Sunday. www.nmdrm.co.uk
  18. I built an N-gauge layout about 1990 using a mirror image of Berrow and called it West Brent. I exhibited all over and finally sold it to the late Graham Smith, who in turn sold it on. Don't know what finally became of it. I had DG couplings for hands-free shunting and the approach was over an estuary. It did 33 shows with me and quite a few with Graham. Haven't got the mag Berrow was in, West Brent was in BRM in the early 2000s. Alastair
