Hi everyone, can anyone recommend one of those headband LED magnifiers, as I am starting to struggle with close up or detailed work.

          Many thanks,   Greg,

I got stronger reading glasses, plus a bright light as already suggested.

Class 89 Update - Tooling Complete

Great news! The tooling for our Class 89 exclusive model with our friends Rails Of Sheffield is now complete. Test injection of plastic is now taking place to ensure everything is as it should be and very soon we will have a first sample (EP1) in hand to evaluate, and then of course, show you all!

As you can see, the distinctive body profile is apparent in these images, showing that the definitive model of this wonderful, unique locomotive is not too far away.

We are pushing hard to get a sample in time for the Great Electric Train Show next month at Milton Keynes. However, if we do not make it in time, we should have it soon after and we will publish photographs for all to see and it will certainly be available to view at the Warley show in November. Overall, we are on course to meet our delivery date of Q3 2023 so far.

he Class 89 is only available via Rails of Sheffield and Accurascale and sales have been higher than expected so far across both vendors. Make sure you get your order in and don't miss out! https://www.accurascale.com/collections/class-89

Hello Fran, are those tools aluminium or steel?

    I’d have taken the flight.

The commute was awful, the bridges are a mess.

I lived there for 5 years, eventually moved to the middle of the bridge (Treasure Island), back then it was an idyll on the dark side of the moon…served by the 108 bus though today its a rough

neighbourhood and umpteen lawsuits about what the navy left in the ground, some of which i used to build a model railway as scenery, which knowing now what I didnt know then, means someone has a layout that glows in the dark.

    ;-)

Strange tack, but as a single guy, I’d occasionally return to the mothership.. on a night out in the glamourous suburbs of Manchester I struck up a conversation with a girl, and pointed to the cigarette machine, which had a photo of SF taken from the Bay Bridge, to which I said I live there and cycle past the spot the photo was taken, to which point she smacked me, walked off saying she’s not that gullible and doesn't believe a word of it...

Just to bring back on track… Deltics above are sold out…  missed out on D9019 twice!  But i think ive enough.

Memory fade, it wasnt Oakland I was offered it was San Jose, which is even more potentially ridiculous.

Your Deltic flew between SFO and Oakland ?

wow thats an airline with money to burn right now.

(30 miles by car and probably a flight of around 10 minutes inc take off and landing)… .. its less than LHR to LCY in distance

The first time I went to silicon valley I was offered a flight on that leg, I declined and drove.

Firstly, my apologies for the extended and unplanned absence of the site since Monday 21st March.

It was evident that all was not well with site performance for a few weeks. I had been repeatedly advising and questioning the host’s (Dediserve) support since late January. Repeatedly they would push the blame back saying there was nothing wrong there so it must be software/configurations/heavy loads. Eventually on 3rd February they had to restart the drives due to an issue at their London data centre and they also replaced one of the drives; for a couple of weeks after this the performance was better but the issues gradually returned. Repeated contacts were made with the same rebuttals; regular intervention was required to tweak settings and clear caches which would return service for a few hours. Requests for a further restart were refused on the basis it would affect other clients. This reached intolerable levels during a supposed week off.

Due to concerns over poor performance and support plans were already in hand and preparations largely completed before that week off. We had held discussions with the president of Invision (the software used for the site) about migrating the site to them as soon as practicable.

Finally, on 21st March, everything started collapsing. Requests for information were met with vague responses about investigation. The following day a technical report was sent…

So much for the successful drive replacement they reported to me on 4th March!

At that stage we were looking at a total data loss by Dediserve as the backups were within that array. An earlier backup from around a year ago was found intact. We had taken the precaution of taking the sql database away from Dediserve onto an alternative platform (again due to performance issues) a year ago so we had all the user/post content safely separate so the drive failures related to the uploaded content such as images. The backup file was enormous, in website terms, which entailed logistical problems in transferring this to Invision.

    So what does this mean?

    • The transfer to Invision means that the hosting will be with the software providers so that performance should be better integrated.
    • Invision’s systems utilise Amazon’s cloud platforms for improved resilience with continual backups.
    • Improved software support.
    • The uploaded images from the last year could, sadly, not be recovered from Dediserve. Older images should be largely intact although further checks are being made. Users will be able to edit earlier posts and re-upload images if they wish. It’s far from ideal and I’m furious with Dediserve for their failings in this regard.
    • It’s evident at this stage that some saved avatars haven’t been ported across so please re-upload up those when you get opportunity.

If the navigations bar or other links do not appear to be working can you please clear any RMweb browsing history in your browser.

Once again, I apologise for the interruption in service. Thank you for the emails, Facebook posts, phone calls, text and WhatsApp messages etc – although a distraction when trying to get things moving your support was seen and appreciated. Of course there will still some knobbers but I can’t cure everything.

Other issues may be identified through the course of the coming days; your patience will be appreciated.

    Andy hi,

Joined the group to research Union Mills and raise awareness of the UM appreciation website that I've set up. But I'm unable to view the images on many threads. Is this because of the server issues or some restriction on my account or?

One example is Richard's DCC thread

I don't see the pictures, just generic thumbnails
    From the post

    image.png.74f67e367d34badfa42047258652bff4.png

And when I click on the images I get a black box

    image.thumb.png.b55d9e2c20bbdee9119c69b95dbc347a.png
When I click on the tiny thumbnail in the black screen, I get an XML Access denied message

    image.png.27ae9266e6f8a08793b9964080922fe1.png

And for some reason, when I copy and paste an image here, it's posting duplicate images - which I've deleted

I joined in order to get notifications for the blogs that I can't get feeds for, so this is rather important to me.

In order to get RSS feeds, you have to inspect the page source, do a CRTL+F and search 'rss'. If it shows 7 times, there's no feed for that subforum/blog/thread. If it shows 8 or 10 times, there is (obviously the text of the posts can interfere with this count). If it's 8 or 10, you got to each occurrence and find the link for it (format is https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/183-irish-railways-group.xml/ or https://www.rmweb.co.uk/blogs/blog/rss/2515-snitzls-main-blog/ for blogs). If that link is not there, you can't just make your own link from the URL of the page, it doesn't work like that (for some reason).

My question is, why the inconsistency? Is it due to the age of the blog/subforum? Or is it something else?

    I know it's not due to authorship, as https://www.rmweb.co.uk/blogs/blog/2626-playing-with-150-scale/ has a feed (here: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/blogs/blog/rss/2626-playing-with-150-scale/) but https://www.rmweb.co.uk/blogs/blog/2091-kelvinbank-a-caledonian-railway-project/ doesn't.

My favourite, Snitzl's Main Blog, has a feed though, so I'm quite happy with that

Why not just "follow" the blogs?

Is it possible to edit an activity stream - either a custom one, or one of the default ones?  I can't see any way to do this from the "My Activity Streams" drop-down, or when actually viewing a stream.

I'm sure this has been explained before but my searches have so far come up blank.

Select the stream you want to edit, click on the category you want to change.  When you have done this the system asks you if want save as a new stream or keep the existing name.  BTW, there are edit marks (very small and faint) to the right of the stream name allowing you to edit make as the default or delete.
