Now, to the uninitiated, this looks just like your model, so is it an unfitted wagon that has been fitted with vacuum braking in its later years?

I can see the logic in Clive’s approach to leaving out bits of scenery that get in the way of seeing the trains. Certain well known modellers advocate ‘view blockers’ to do just the opposite. Each to his/her own.

Your cut and shut method of modelling seems to be producing some very passable models. I’ve always liked cutting up old Triang/ Hornby carriages to produce new models.

There seems to be quite a time lapse between those receiving their copy by subscription and those of us who put business the way of the local village shop. I feel it is very important to keep this lifeline alive. A very good read, by the way. I particularly liked both South Pelaw and Surrey Arms.

I don’t know when the big end problem came to light but it did stop 419 working passenger trains on Saturday until late on when she rolled into Toddington pulling a passenger train.

I followed Martin’s writings in the model railway press for many years. It was a pleasure, therefore, when he and Jan moved to Ledbury, to make his acquaintance and have the pleasure of helping with operating two of his layouts. His passing was a great loss all round, not only as a friend but also a very accomplished modeller.

It highlights what I’ve always believed and that is that model shunting takes as long as prototype shunting.

I find it interesting that youngsters becoming involved with railway preservation are having to operate trains the traditional way, whereas those involved in railway modelling have to use the most modern methods available.

Has any non-subscriber tried to get hold of a copy of the Little Bytham 1958 DVD? I have and I’m still waiting for Warner’s to get back to me. They’re a bit like hen’s teeth.

Just been reading the thread BRM February ‘19, which leads me to believe that casual readers of BRM are going to struggle once agin to get the latest DVD on Little Bytham when it comes out. They really know how not to attract customers, or am I just getting old?
