Sorry, just to be clear.....when you guys are talking about leaving it to soak in Dettol, you are trying to strip it back to the original plastic and take all paint off arent you?

I picked up three tatty Hornby Gresley Suburbans that someone had tried to paint /weather without success. I think they they have used enamel paint in quite a few locations and I would ideally like to remove it or at least reduce it. Does anyone have any tips of what to use? I have tried enamel thinners and a it took a bit of weathering powder off but that's it....help?!!!

Thanks for all of the replies. I like the look of the Durango table on the kitwoodhillmodels. Has a similar look to the Aviemore table. I am unsure of his scales and what would match my oo gauge layout....any thoughts?

Hi All I am trying to go through turntable options for my layout. It is loosely based on the Aviemore shed arrangement. I currently have a standard Peco turntable that I was going to use but I was wondering if anyone could point me in a more suitable 65ft turntable which is maybe not from the main manufacturers? I am aware there are a number of smaller makers out there. Thanks in advance!

Hi Andy Thanks for your thoughts. The problem is that the model is fairly massive at nearly 3 foot long. I am coming round to the idea of painting a base dark grey and then as you say picking out certain stones in differing shades. Then applying a mortar colour wash and then weathering with the grey powders that you have mentioned. Really out of my depth as I hve never done this before. Looking on youtube there is really no one else that I have found that has painted stonework that has been laser cut on MDF before.

Right, the time has come to make a start on painting my laser cut model of Aviemore Shed that was produced by Brian at Smart Models. I have been concentrating on track laying recently but it is time to get the shed looking more like its namesake. Now I have seen a number of techniques to paint the stone work but I thought I would stick a post up to see if anyone else has thoughts or guidance to a newby like myself. I have not painted any models before and given the size of this shed, it is a little daunting. As you can see the stone work on the front of the shed is considerably darker than the sides as you would expect due to steam and dirt from the locos getting disposed of over the pits. I have attached a number of images that show both the shed in its real life guise and some images of my model. I am trying to keep costs down but I also want to make the best of the model so any advise on paints to use, techniques and brush or rollers would be hugely welcome??? Thanks in advance.

An excellent post and very helpful. I need to paint a similar effect onto a 3ft long engine shed so your idea of not having to pick out the individual stones is excellent.

Hi Guys I have a DCC Onboard Bachmann model that is running slightly strangely. When I slow the model to a stop it will slow down and just before stopping it will lurch forward a little bit and then stop. It does it in both directions. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and what I can do to fix it? Thanks!

Those are great thanks! Yeah I follow Dean Parks on youtube and he speaks highly of scalescenes. One side of the layout will be Aviemore and the other is looking likely to be somewhere on the settle and carlisle.....a little odd I know but the station will be on the settle side.

Hi Right, I am trying to decide on station buildings and am struggling. I am not up for totally scratch building due to time constraints but am happy to have a go at Kits like Metcalfe or others. Could you please post up any ideas for stations and platform kits that you have an preferably pictures of how they look on your layouts. I have been thinking about the Metcalfe PO333 Settle and Carlisle kit and the PO320 Mainline Booking office with the platform extensions. Has anyone got examples of these on their layouts? The platform will be 6-7 coaches long so reasonably long. Thanks in advance. Tim
