Do we know if it’s just Una in the packs for now, I assume it is, or will there be other loco options?

I saw the video at like almost 5 in the morning (I live on the USA east coast so that's what time it was for me when I woke up and saw the video), and they specified it would be Una, probably for her being preserved at the National Slate Museum, which makes sense if you ask me.

    Give us chance 😆

They do look good and I’m currently deciding between red or black 😁

Nice touch with the comments about the numbers being tare weight markings not wagon numbers and that the coal wagons carried slates down from the quarries and coal up to the quarry.

I'm gonna get the full starter pack plus some extra wagons, makes it easier on my wallet.

  3. Think it's time for either more Quarry Hunslets as the original releases were super popular and would help push the sales of the new NG7 ones and a new tooling for a steam loco in 00 as there hasn't been one for a hot minute, maybe a regular release of the Cakey 812 or maybe something pre-grouping great western.

I suspect something akin to what happened with the 66 may transpire.

    Early days.

No, quite literally we are not getting any runs of later releases of Hattons exclusives, and with what has been announced, tye 2nd Andrew Barclay run is on the list of items not getting made.

I’ve had a few questions asked about the loco so I thought I’d post some information for people to reference back to.

The original radius curve specified for the loco is 457mm, however, as a light engine, it easily managed 263mm when tested.

Despite the considerable overhang and body mounted couplings, both loco and coaches ran through 305mm radius crossovers without issue. We will test again using 263mm but please don’t be surprised if that’s a little too optimistic.

At present, there are two versions of the loco. DC, and DCC Sound. The DC version has a blanking plate fitted to the decoder socket. The DCC sound version will have a Next 18 decoder fitted. There may be a DCC only fitted version but that will be for Model Rail to decide nearer the time of production.

Access to the decoder is via the smoke box door, and the decoder pcb is simply pulled forward to gain access for those of you wishing to fit non sound decoders.

The factory fitted sugar cube speaker is also inside the boiler behind the smoke box door and sits below the decoder pcb.

The loco has a glowing firebox, which works on DC and DCC.

The firebox doors can be opened and closed by using something small such as a blunt cocktail stick to push a brass lever inside the cab - DCC controlling this was a stretch too far. 😉

The loco is modelled up until 1986 with livery options and RRP still to be finalised.

Hopefully that helps to cover a few questions that have been asked.

As a further note, The Vale of Rheidol Railway has been very helpful in assisting us and it’s an absolute pleasure to be working on this project.

I’ll post another update in the New Year once we’ve had a chance to make some small design changes and carry out further testing.

    Cheers Mike B

Hopfully either ya'll with Model Rail Magazine or either Peco or Bachmann make some r-t-r coaching stock to go with the locos.

For anyone that wasn’t at the Warley Exhibition over the weekend, myself and George from Model Rail Magazine were kindly given the opportunity to test the Vale of Rheidol loco EP sample on the Clyre Valley model railway both on Saturday and Sunday. The loco drew much attention, so much so that I struggled to get a decent video due to so many people clambering to do the same!

For a first EP, it ran better than expected and although there’s a few minor points that need attention, the overall opinion was that we’ve done a good job - which is very pleasing to hear.

The next step is to provide feedback to the factory so that we can make some adjustments.

Any idea as to when pre-orders will be up for the models?

Screenshot from the SDR Hopper Wagon youtube video, of the FR Bowsider carriage artwork. I think they are of 17 & 18 in their current liveries.

    Screenshot_20220523-153408_YouTube.jpg

So they are doing the two Brown Marshalls Bowsiders, hopfully wr can eventually get some of the more modern coaching stock and a few more vintage carriages to go with the products already incoming for the 009 Ffestiniog line.

  8. I went ahead and pre-ordered the pre-Shirtbutton set(3), plus 6129 sound fitted so I have something to pull it, I'm definitely gonna get a set of the corrider stock (hoping they do more than just the 3rd, composite, and brake 3rd most  pre-WW 2 GWR corrider coaches in r-t-r 00 the past few years and we

get a restaurant, kitchen, and full brake) cause a 00 gauge King/Castle/Hall/Star hauling a rake of these plus some corridor Colletts on a layout would look amazing.

Hornbys Facebook page posted a link to the last Engine Shed for the year. The link doesn’t work as the latest blog shown is the November edition. However, they do say that this one includes a running sample of the 9F, and shows off its die cast body and flickering firebox. Was this originally announced to have die cast and firebox flicker? I may have missed it but I don’t recall that.

Looks like the link got deleted cause I just checked their fb page.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what happened to the proposed  Heljan version?

    steve

You mean Peco/Kato version? If you meant that one all we have rn till the Englands come out is the rough 3D print of the body.

Interesting perspective. I do not prefer the Midland livery on an LNWR loco; the Blackberry black being far superior.

Some issues: The number on the tender plate is the tender's number not an old loco number.  In LNWR days the loco number was not carried on the smokebox door so that is wrong.  The buffers on the tender are Webb but those on the engine are Bowen-Cooke which dates the engine as post circa 1910

The livery for Novelty is an older LMS livery from the first something odd years during the grouping.
