I see 3 versions have been announced - I'm guessing that the liveries will be as follows but would welcome confirmation or correction:

R3836 Black without lining and later logo

R3838 Black with lining and early logo

R3839 Green with lining and later logo

There's no indication of liveries on the Hornby website so before placing an order, I'd like to know how each will be finished.

    TIA,

    Stan

From what everyone has said, 78000 will be unlined green, a first for Hornby on any of their mixed traffic locos that were lined br green, and 78047 is gonna be lined br black with late crests.

Now now!. Don't be making me feel old...   ;)

Available on DVD for about a tenner. Well worth it. Probably the most accurate TV portrayals of railways I've seen. Funny that it was made for kids.

A clip for those who don't know it.

Pssst. The most memorable thing in the whole series is in that clip of the kid getting upset about the locomotive going through at night something like "that's not one of ours!". I can tell him now it was 8233. A new 8F is needed, the current version is looking very dated in some aspects.

I think Shannon is highly unlikely. Or should that be Highley....

I do also think Hornby's Stanier 5MT needs an update as well, plus that way we can also get the Stephonson Valve Gear and Caprotti Valve Gear variants as rn they only have one variant available in the tooling.

  3. If so, then I'm hoping it'll be about two weeks before that one hits Hornby directly, and that the shed code has been added as I remember the earlier deco samples for the two BR verisons a few engine sheds ago being without a shed code on the smokeboxes, also hoping to see a Shirtbutton, BR Lined Green EE, BR Unlined Green LC, and BR Lined Black EE variant of these locos somewhere down the line in the years to come, and some of them being of the earlier 5101s, I am glad to finally have one of the GWR's most iconic mid-sized tank engines being updated, will see at least one in operation on my layout, once completed.

Just a rough guess but I would say middle of next year or so, still need to finish tooling, go through the EP sample stage(s), and artwork stages before production and that will all be fitting into the schedules for all the other Rapido products.

The changes showed up for me, even on my order, which only had the running number changed.

Model rail snuck in an image of the Vale of Rheidol locos in 009, apparently its an In house project (not through another manufacturer) and drawings were sent to the far east to make cads.

Hopefully info will be up soon as I really would like to have those locos on my eventual 009 layout, anyone have luck snagging a pic of the image?

We have to remember that Hornby tend to rotate the Big 4 with their new (or retooled) steam offering.

in the last few years we have had large Prairie and Duchess for 2019 supplemented by the Terrier at the 11th hour, Lord Nelson and the j15 for 2018,   Merchant Navy I think was 2017. I’m not at my computer to go back further back but if we had a definitive list of new and retooled it might narrow down where big H might be heading. I’ve wondered for a while if the WD S160 is in the offing and having seen the recent wish list I think that might be an option.

The earlier post re the Manor might make Hornby execs uneasy if they think Bachmann are closer and can trump them.

    just my random thoughts.

Two things 1, it's the Princess Royal Class not the Coronation/Duchess Class that were announced with the Large Prairies and Terriers this year

2, Hornby could pull off a better 78xx/Manor as their Grange Class has really well done GWR Stephenson valve gear compared to Bachmann's rendition, plus they have the correct tender type for them too, plus better modelled coaching stock for them.

The LNWR ceased to exist as a separate entity in 1923. They didn't  establish their own museum or did AFAIK the LMS of which the LNWR had become part, unlike the LNER which established a museum in 1928, which later became the NRM. The LNWR did retain examples of a number of locomotive classes at Crewe but William Stanier had them scrapped.

The LNWR Precedent Class 2-4-0 Hardwicke is probably the only existing LNWR loco not yet modelled that is viable as a 00 RTR model ( the 0-4-0 Shunting tank being too small and irrelevant to interest most buyers although there is a 4mm kit on the way). As Hardwicke is in the NRM  collection it would be available for 3D scanning, which appears to be the prefixed approach to producing new models.

Actually Cornwall hasn't been done in R-T-R 00 Gauge either, only the G2A and Coal Tank out of all preserved LNWR loco classes have been made.
