Good news about the optional traction tyres and sound enhancements.  I'm confused by the chimney on the Midland variant.  It appeared to be based on a photo of it at Buxton with a Deeley smokebox door, but now it's got a Johnson chimney which differs from the photo.

Cause people wouldn't stop taking the mickeky about the chimney on the midland railway model.

What's weird about the engine not having a shed plate, especially on a livery sample?  Not exactly uncommon in the real world and as Hornby tend to work from photos for final detail it could well be that in the photo they used for this engine did not have a shed plate or it was missed off the livery sample.  We will only know what shed code it is or isn't carrying when it's actually delivered and we see either a photo of the production model or (in the case of some of us) it is actually sitting in our hands.  And if it does turn up without a shed plate it's not exactly the worst task in the world to add one and that might be better than having to change a pre-printed code.

The engine must have acquired that livery when at either Merthyr or Radyr because by the time it left Radyr 'economy green' was in vogue and in any case the engine only had 18 months to go before withdrawal so it was unlikely to have received a major shopping & repaint.  Logically it could potentially carry either an 88D, or 88A, or 88B shed plate before it acquired an 86E plate - so maybe Hornby hadn't made up their mind at the time of the decoration sample?  It was photographed in July 1962 in a clean condition so it might not have acquired line green before it went to Radyr?   As it happens either Radyr or the Tunnel would just about suit me, and for sentimental reasons Radyr would be rather nice ;)

BOTH early livery samples for the BR livery large prairies were missing the shed plate, but R3723 has its shed plate, including in the FINAL livery sample, but not R3725.

Rails of Sheffield have photos of the models on their website.  These have only been posted in the last few days, so I think they should not be too far away.  Hopefully.

Just had a look & it also has the early LNER livery so it might not be that long of a wait at all now.

? ?  Could you make your point a little clearer please ?

Dapol have their other new 00 gauge steam locomotive items, but the GWR Mogul & Large Prairie being two of Dapol's first current standard 00 gauge steam locos that could be sound fitted and they didn't have the new policy for their sound fitted locomotives only being sold on their store they didn't add them onto their own webshop.

  5. No it's because they didn't start selling their 00 gauge steam models for pre-order before release for their G.W.R models till the announcement of the Manor Class cause the new update of how they'd sell their models till months after the moguls & large prairies were announced.

Arrgghh. I cannot believe Dapol have left that ridiculous smokebox numberplate on the production run 7301 in G-W-R green.

Why would you produce a model who’s prototype appeared like that for a vanishingly small amount of time? I’m

not going to spend £135-plus to take a scalpel to a brand new model. It’ll be the shirtbutton version and some Fox transfers for me I think.

Still, as 7301 is in such a ridiculous livery combination they might end up in the bargain bin anyway.... something sub £100 is a much more agreeable thing to attack with a blade...

    CoY

There are some locos that had their final big four liveries into BR dayso it's not as crazy or ridiculous as you claim it to be, maybe look up some other locos before jumping to the conclusions like that?

That's what we're aiming for. Moving the coupler mount would have involved major redesign of the cast chassis block and the cost would have scuppered the project. My personal view - and I stress that it is just my view -  is that anyone with major concerns about the front end appearance of any loco will be using a scale screw coupling anyway. I've sent one of the two samples I had (and had given a thorough running-in) to the photographer and he has prepared a new video clip which will hopefully be on the Model Rail FB page before too long. (CJL)

Considering that was about a week ago, there is still no new video up.

Just received word from Peco that the Green & Cream preservation era coaches are now out and available! We've placed our order and will be getting ours next week, we've had healthy pre-orders on these.

RRP is £27.50, and of course most shops (including us) will be offering a discount on that price - so head down to your local shop and get placing your orders!

FR Maroon ones not due long after apparently. :-)

Not maroon, but the original victorian livery of brown/purple.

Not quite, to celebrate 7820's 70th birthday year.

Thank's for the correction, either way it's nice that they're doing one of the preserved locos in its current livery.

Some clarification is needed as to the liveries proposed. Hornby don't say what colour or lining is being used for anything, just era numbers.

For 78010 Hornby quote Era 4, which I assume to be Lined Black, Early Emblem. Hattons say Late Black. The post above say Late Emblem Black, which would be as the picture I posted.

For 78000 Hornby quote Era 5. Hattons say Late Unlined Green. The post above say Early Emblem Lined Black, which is the livery it was carrying in mid-1956. In 1961 it appears to be carrying Unlined Green Late Crest ex-works at Swindon.

For 78047 Hornby quote Era 5 and the picture they used shows it when carrying Lined Black Late Crest. Hattons say Late Black. The post above say Lined Green Late Crest.

    Confused, The Dark Peak.

No, the Hattons website marks R3838 (78010) in br lined black with early emblem.

    Regarding R3839

Both Model Rail and BRM are listing 78000 as being in BR lined Black early emblem in their Hornby announcements, where as certain online retailers are listing for pre order in unlined Green.

February Model Rail is listing new 2020 Hornby as

R3836 78047 as BR late emblem green

R3838 78010 BR late emblem Black

R3839 78000 BR early emblem lined black.

BRM in the Hornby Special section is pretty much the same.

    so who’s correct?

I don't think the magazines have it correct as the first 10 locos (78000 to 78009) were painted in unlined br green, the rest were all painted br lined black, so R3839 would be in unlined br green with late crest and both R3838 and R3836 wouls have br lined black livery with R3838 having the early emblem and R3836 would have the late crest.

OK, thanks for the update on R3836 and R3839, will R3838 78010 be black with/without lining and early/late crests?

    TIA,

    Stan

I think both R3836 and R3838 will both be lined black with the respective crests (late for R3836 and early for R3838).
