I recently purchased one of these - also from recommendations on RMWeb (and S4 Forum IIRC):

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08KS9SG7W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The speed of heating up is astounding; it also has programmable sleep and auto shutdown modes; a range of bits are easily and cheaply available as well.  Recommended.

I have used this model for a few years now , the company are brilliant to deal with and carry a good range of spares.

Lovely stuff. The only thing - and I wouldn't mention it, had I not been caught out myself by it - are the deflectors on the A3 far enough forward?

Otherwise it looks most excellent. I do like that shade of green.

Thank you , I think they are right , perhaps it’s the angle of the photo. The paint I use is good old Phoenix / Precision

Then again looking at it , your right . I do have one job left to do that’s adding the Doncaster works plate , I’ll move them forward to match the two other A3s  I have which have them . I picked 60074 because it was never fitted with them , just for the different variation .

  3. I can only echo what has already been said , I have been going since the days when I think it was held in the technical college , always been a top exhibition and since the Manchester show moved out of the CIS I think without doubt Wigan has been the best in the north of England.

I know people are worried about the coming recession but being in my seventies I think I’ve seen one basically every ten years or so , was downsizing considered ?

So thank you for all the very happy memories I have from over the years .

  4. Since I first discovered high level gearbox’s I now have six locos running with them , and the two A3s I’m building now have them fitted , I don’t rush making them I take 30/40 minutes to assemble one into a free running gearbox , the critical point is to make sure the folds are 90 degrees, this is the part for me that takes the longest , before the folding I make sure the shafts are a sliding fit and once it’s correctly folded the shafts line up perfectly.

I limit the amount of movement when it’s fitted into the loco and what I really like is they are so quiet when running , with the latest Chinese motors I have a motor and gearbox for under twenty pounds.

  5. Afternoon All

All this talking about soldering I thought I would share my latest offering , it’s a djh A3 chassis , one of two that I’m currently building , in the photo you can see I use a fume extractor, didn’t cost a lot , also has I’ve said before I use the ready available yellow tube flux , yes it does require cleaning afterwards , I’ve found a quick brush with some cellulose thinners does a good job .

Better late than never but over the last few years I’ve invested in  , a 75W temperature control unit , supplied by Circuit  Specialists  (excellent after service ) the extraction fan  and most recently the Proxxon drill  (after years of putting up with an underpowered mini drill )

I know these items come with a cost , but I wish I’d invested in these tools a lot earlier in my modelling days .

If you look at the chassis can I point out the motor , a few months ago on the RM Iooking for a new source of flat can motors I came across the Mabuchi range  , so I order three off eBay from China , I’ve used these in a B1 , Jubilee and a Britannia and found them excellent , I bought another ten  at a grand cost of £18 , yes £1.80 each including postage , the motor was produced for car CD players  , it’s RPM is 17500 , search on eBay ref FF -050SK-11170 shaft is 1.5mm

  6. Can I just thank everybody that’s been involved in getting this years exhibition on ,  I have really enjoyed my visit today , lots of top layouts to enjoy in all shapes and form,  Newchapel  Junction  O gauge layout had me standing by the circle of track , just loved the sight and sound of the locos going round and round , so again thank you to all the organisers , layout operators and traders for making it all happen.

  7. Thanks Tony , the real visual appearance with the bulkhead in the kit is the white metal casting of the semi circle cut out for the brake handle , would I be correct basically to copy the bulkhead from the high sided tender ?

It’s a disappointment to read the DJH instructions where they proudly claim to have covered the alternative parts for the different versions of the loco , and then add they hadn’t done this for the tender .

Apart from that the two tenders are built and I’m looking forward to building the locos , 60106 with deflectors and 60074 without.

Will you be at Wigan this October ? If so be good to have a chat with you.

    Dennis

  8. Good morning Tony

I’m wondering , hoping that yourself or others can help me out , after finishing my DJH Britannia I have at long last started my two DJH A3s , these are both with the GNR coal-railed tenders ,  as you know the kit comes with alternative parts for the body , but not for the tender , again as you will know the tender bulkheads were modified to suit the change over to L/H drive , so far the only photo I can find is of 60041 on Cowlairs works after the removal of the boiler and cylinders , it’s not the clearest of photos to try and make a new bulkhead from .

Did you modify yours Tony or leave it ?

have now received both my BR green beauties, Black Watch and Nimbus and am blown away with the detail that Accura have put into this model, they are astounding. My eyes keep going back to the open lattice footsteps for access to the cab doors, that is unbelievable for a rtr model.

My thoughts exactly , received my Nimbus last Thursday, same as others the two front steps on one side were in the packaging , not going to replace them till I have the top off to fit the loco crew when they arrive.

I’m plan old dc and she runs like a dream though my hand built track using my modelex controller.

Reading all these post I remember back in the day my brother letting me “run in “ his latest Hornby dublo Deltic , I ran it round an oval of track on the carpet thinking it was the bees knees , compared to this beautiful model well , there isn’t any comparison in any shape or form.

Can either of you recall which subforum you were in at the time? As mentioned in the OP there are a few subforums (the sponsored ones) which may still show ads pending a fix when one person is back off holiday. I've tested at this end and all seems as I'd expect to see.

So glad that you came up with a cheaper service that removed the adds , I had stopped spending a lot of time on here ( I did get more modelling done ) , anyway after the initial hiccups , I followed instructions on this page , I now enjoy add free viewing , except when I go on Accurascale site to see the latest on the Deltic .

    • Thanks 1
  11. My son called round on Monday , he suggested Railtec transfers , I’ve never taken any notice of them before, but on being shown the range available, and them having what I required I placed an order .

Tuesday morning a personal confirmation email.

    Arrived today .

     Now that’s what I call service .
