  1. The Santa Fe from the 1930's had steam ejector A/C. Originally used a line from the steam loco, and latterly from special boilers in passenger diesel units. http://old.atsfrr.org/resources/Sandifer/SEAC/Index.htm https://cs.trains.com/trn/f/743/p/259513/2914629.aspx#2914629
  2. Thanks Mark. Much less pricey!
  3. Can any of our dental practitioners recommend a source of fine acrylic repair material as suggested in this video from a fellow American dentist modeller please? He mixes the resin with fairly thick CA to use as a filler. The brand he recommends does not seem to be readily available in the UK: Dentsply repair material lab powder 454 pink free flow. Is there an equivalent? Interestingly he doesn't recommend the resin for casting. Cheers
  4. Two of us from East Surrey N Gauge went up yesterday and had a really good day. Great layouts and really nice people, best exhibition I've been to for a very long time. Inspirational. Big thanks to all for their hard work. I expect Jon's pics will turn up on the blog in due course: https://esngblog.com/
  5. Hidden London are doing a virtual tour of York Road in May: https://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/whats-on/hidden-london/york-road-virtual-tour
  6. I also had the pleasure of seeing the new York Road yesterday and a pleasant chat with the good professor. Exquisite work.
  7. Diamond cutting discs Are these of any use for 2mm: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333675570805 ? Can any of our dental practitioners shed some light? Cheers Simon
  8. A question about track directly soldered to PCB. Does the copper in the PCB diffuse heat enough to obviate the need for noticeable expansion gaps in the rail when laid?
  9. Just to echo Mr Shed's comments - big thanks to Tim Watson and the gang for the warm, generous welcome and the opportunity to see a masterpiece close up on Sunday morning. Really well organised and excellent communication from the Club beforehand. I also went to coal Drop Yards to see the huge architectural model of London - gets as far as Kings X, but not to CF unfortunately. That lemon drizzle cake was toothsome.
  10. I have heard that while vinegar can be effective to clean etches and brass.
  11. There was a discussion a while back on wagons etc for the potato market. You may well have seen this site: http://www.peterberthoud.co.uk/blog/18022018105946-london-markets-in-the-1930s/. A couple of fascinating photos. I imagine Kings X was much like Borough Market in terms of service vehicles, and some firms served both markets as evidenced by the still extant sign at the Borough. Incidentally, googling 'Lee Potatoes' finds a number of farms and companies called Lee in the Ely area - clearly a spud dynasty.
  12. Delivering Potatoes in 1920’s. https://www.heritagesouthholland.co.uk/article/delivering-potatoes-1920s/ Rural, but might be indicative...
  13. My experience is to avoid using mesh designs in Fusion360, it's a world of pain to convert to Brep - which is what you need. There are YouTube videos on this or google it. No1 daughter's boyfriend did a couple of designs in Blender as Meshes for me and while they can be imported as stl's it is impossible to convert them and manipulate. You may also end up with things called inverted normals (!), which may not print.
  14. Thanks be to Father Cool... Honeycomb.stl
  15. Wow. Many many thanks. I'm really a Fusion/CAD beginner, but I understood that. So helpful. I was hoping to have a template for future designs, but the 3mm radius and 1 mm walls, seems to be right for 2mm. Much appreciated Simon
  16. I can't upload either of these honeycomb files in Fusion unfortunately. And, while it is easy to create a hexagon in Fusion, a honeycomb is another matter entirely! Would it be possible to upload one of of these beautiful files as an ordinary stl please? Many thanks Simon
  17. Tomytec chassis: Is this link of interest? http://www.trainweb.org/tomix/chassis_dim.htm
  18. Reviving this topic as we have had a few discussions at East Surrey N Gauge. In 2016 we added a paragraph to the constitution on safeguarding. My professional background was in running safeguarding partnerships, so I have some knowledge in the area, but not at the sharp end like @Calnefoxile, who makes some excellent points. We will be updating the paragraph - other clubs are welcome to use if this is helpful: "ESNG strictly complies with The Children Act 2004 and other relevant safeguarding legislation for all Junior Members. As it is impractical to have all members DBS checked the club stipulates that all children under the age of 18 or vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a close relative or guardian when attending or travelling to club meetings. This policy also applies for club exhibitions and where club layouts are invited to other exhibitions." It is also important to apply common sense and ensure that younger or vulnerable members are never unsupervised, eg. they should not be be taken to the toilet except by parents/carers. I'm not aware of any incidents involving model railway clubs, but experience elsewhere has shown a need for vigilance. It's a shame that the era of trust has perhaps gone, but historically there were those who grossly abused that trust, and there may be some who continue to want to do so. Simon
  19. A bit more random googling: National Archives (Kew) have rail periodicals, including the SR: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C241. You may have to pay for some research by the looks of it. The British Library newspaper library at Colindale, was closed in 2013, but they seem to have a big digital collection at the main site at Kings Cross: https://www.bl.uk/collection-guides/newspapers. The principal regional newspaper in South London has always been the S. London Press, but I'm not sure where their recent (C20th) archives are, but the BL should have some access. Worth a Try. Hope this helps
  20. Another thought. Try this: https://libraries.merton.gov.uk/client/en_GB/merton/?rm=HERITAGE+AND+L0|||1|||0|||true
  21. Wimbledon station is still a dangerous place - there was a fatality last week~: https://www.wimbledonguardian.co.uk/news/17839066.railway-horror---man-electrocuted-train-tracks---onlookers-claiming-trying-get-off-line/. There have been a number of incidents in the last few years, leading to fences blocking platform access to the fast lines.
