I remember exploring the platforms whist changing trains after a day spotting at York in the late 60's early 70's, there was quite often a couple of open wagons in one of the platforms, labelled to work between Scarborough Station and Barlow Tip, i had no idea where it was back in those days and now 50 or so years later i live about 5 miles from Barlow Tip. Which is now a nature reserve created by covering the tip in thousands of tons of soil after asbestos had been found, thought to have originated from York Carriage Works. One wonders what is buried there, a good friend of mine who knew an ex Selby driver told him when Selby Shed closed in 1959 everything went in open wagons to the tip.
