  1. Hallo guys i have just been looking at YouTube and w hile i was looking for archive footage of Birmingham New Street ,i came across a great bit of footage from 1994 of the late Don Jones Minature New street Railway Modeller August1984,their is not much footage out their of older layouts i hope you all agree with me that this is bit of a gem!
  2. I have been looking at some of my unfinished projects ,and i am hopeing to complete my scraych built model of DB977335 the former 4TC driveing coach used as a generater driveing coach in the old high speed track recording train,i am thinking about painting it into Technical services cerise red and grey livery, for the cerise red i think i should be able to find a rattle can ,does any one know what shade of grey was used on the lower body panels it looked a bit darker than rail grey, not much stock was evet painted into this livery 2 class 20s 1 class 47 and a handfull of test coaches so photographs are quite rare! The rest of the train at this time was still in rail blue and grey but with a red stripe as used on track recording vehicles i would also like to find out what width transfers i would need for the red stripe,i will be very hratefull for any advise.
  3. I have just been looking at one of my classic layout folders ,a layout that i have always liked Reighton by Steve Flint a Yorkshire rural backwater set in the 1980s,model rail supplement and Railway Modeller november 1999 . Carradon Junction cornish china clay branch ModelRailway Constructor june 1987 .Darrowby Model Railway Constructor september 1985 a superb rail blue era depiction of the east coast mainline ,West Park Railway modeller november 1995 set in the 1970s 1980s a layout with some fantastic buildings typical of the humberside area, the next layout is a home layout Carstairs Junction Railway Modeller December 1986 November 87 Febuary 1989 a real modern image layout of its time with lots of detailed locos and stock.
  4. I am so glad that i bought most of my collection at a time when you could by Bachmann mk1 coaches for around 17 pounds and locos for less than 100 pounds,i think todays prices have gone crazy ,i am quite happy to now purchase older pre owned models without all the gadgets i do not need lighting on my pre tops and rail blue diesels as you could hardly see the lights on the real locos of this era,i just hope our hobby can ride out the storm of the cost of living crisis we are all liveing through,i just cant bring my self to spend 300 pound + on a model train at a time when some less fortunate people than my self are struggling to survive!
  5. Superb new livery ,almost a natural update of BR swallow livery British Rail in its post rail blue era seemed to put a lot of thought into train design and livery s,i remember a certain mr Branson talking about GNER running trains in the old BR livery like it was something negative ,Intercity swallow livery has stood the test of time very well GNER livery with a red stripe was also very smart, ruined by the National Express cheap looking white stripe rebrand,Virgins swirly livery now looks worn out and scruffy ,its great to see these clasdic trains being turned out in a proper livery.
  6. I also think 057 looked great in blue syp livery i always thought it was a pity that br did not adopt this livery as standard, enjoyed some great thrashy haulage at a diesel gala at the nnr behind 057 in this livery hauling a clss 117 dmu ,back in 1986 she was the very last 25 i saw in br service got a glimpse of her in the cce yard atBury St Edmunds whilst on board the European boat train later on at peterborough she came through heading north on the March breakdown crane, greatdays!
  7. Here in suffolk after a very dry hot summer the leafs are already falling, does any one know if the rhtt season has started early in the anglia region ,wnnx has reported that 37 419 had delivered rhtt sets to Stowmarket.
  8. Thank you guys for all your fantastic helpfull replys ,i like the idea that the signal is the distant for the next box or crossing keeper further up the line, the fact that the signal can be passed at caution is great for me as i can be lazy and use a non working signal, once again rmweb has proved to be a priceless mine of information!
  9. I am looking for some advise about signaling,i am building a simple n gauge branch line station it has a platform that can hold a 4 coach train and 2 goods sideings that are operated from a ground frame,i guess i could get away with no signals ,but i have had a thought that a distant signal could be sited near the station to give trains heading towards the next station along the line a warning as to the status of the next signal, would this be prototypical, also could trains pass a distant signal set at danger?
  10. I love these photographs reminds me how we used to do things,i remember in the mid 80s a bit of an explosion of detailing parts ,in suffolk we used to have a great shop in Stowmarket mid suffolk models they used to stock loads of detailing parts and nameplates, etc something the model railway retailers just dont do any more,do you remember the Howes of Oxford bible! I am enjoying the excelent work you are doing updateing older stock ,something i am doing quite a bit of again and enjoying .
  11. I have not been on rmweb very long i still need to work out how to submit photograhs ,but if you go to flickr and key in class 26 detailing project you should find my lima class 26 that i am detailing and have had a go at the typical BRCW uneven bodyside panels ,the model is bit of a stalled project ,that i hope to one day complete!
  12. I i can understand you thinking the class 215 could have been a 218,i will be happy to be corrected if i am wrong ,but my understanding is these locomotives are part of the v160 series all built to the same basic design ,but with variations ,for example steam heating boilers etc i think some machines are built on longer frames to carry extra equipment, the BR 218 machines are the final class of the v160 series,i hope my information is helpfull and not to inacurate!
  13. That is great way to build a budget DBSO ,i have in the past built locos in the same way by fitting a new shell onto an older chassis ,your conversion has got me thinking i have some lima mk2F and mk3 stock in store could be tempted to build a push pull set !
  14. Thank you for your reply claude its good news that some of these fine locomotives are still in service they are real icons of the German railways they are a Great looking and fantastic sounding machine!
  15. No problem you are very welcome i have just done a bit of research it is the October 1980 modelrailway constructor that has the 4CIG BIG scale drawings it looks like magazine exchange might have a copy i have not used them but their webb sight looks very good!
  16. If it is any help if you go to dartcastings webb site and look under carriage sides they have a photograph of their etched sides for 4CIG units they also do etched sides for 4TC units ,you might be able to compare these, also Model Railway constructor did scale drawings for the 4CIG i cant remember what year or month could have been the late 70s early 80s ,i think the article might have been ride to work on an egg ,it might be in the southern electric groups modelling index i hope this info is of some help.
  17. Does anyone know if the DB BR 218 class locomotives are still in service i have looked at wickapedia but they only state as of 2009 ,from watching you tube i guess some have found new private owners and some examples might be preserved,
  18. No wonder i thought that looked like a fantastic layout its New Bryford a modern classic!
