The Penguin 0f Doom replied to peterl's topic in Exhibitions
Oh aye, and while I'm on, since you missed out on posting any pictures of our layout, here's one of the "half finished trainshed" you mentioned..... I'll just leave that there eh? -
Hull Model Railway Show November 11th & 12th

Awesome! Thanks for your words of encouragement but unfortunately, it is apparent that you haven't a clue why the Hessle MRG were exhibiting their work in progress..... You will be aware that this year, Hull is celebrating being City of Culture and the Hull MRS wanted to reflect this by inviting locally themed layouts and/or local clubs to show their support for the City of Culture. Invermire belongs to the Hessle MRG and was invited as a work in progress and as such, at the time of the invite, was never going to be a finished layout this time round. Despite your negativity, we were happy to support the cause. If you had perhaps looked closer, you would have seen that all the track/signals/buildings were completely scratch built and this is not something that has been thrown together over night. If you actually took the time to take in the "half finished trainshed" you would see it is a scratchbuilt version of Wick/Thurso!!! As for the "RTR" stock, not one of the items of rolling stock is fresh out the box infact 95% is extremely heavily adapted. I note your observations neglected to say that some of that stock was very obviously not "RTR" as it too was in a part finished state having been kit built!!!!! I would direct you to the clubs Invermire thread here on RMweb as well as my own FB thread where you will see the standard of work that is going into this layout. Once you've had a look, you'll be in posession of the full facts before ripping our efforts apart again. Next time the layout is out at a show it will be much further on - please do come and introduce yourself and I'll be glad to show you how wrong you are...... -
Hi all. It seems there is currently a facebook frenzy on Big Big Mk2 conversions with etches being drawn and plenty of plastic being cut up! For my own part, I have managed to get some paint onto my efforts and the results can be seen here..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ Cheers. Sean.

I must have another Heljan model then. As far as I'm concerned, the Heljan model is way off the mark. I guess there's just no telling some folk...... I give up, I really do!

No, they were curved which is why I spent so much time and effort rectifying Heljans flat fronted version...... -
Hi all. My conversion work on the 25 is finished. The loco can be found here..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ Cheers. Sean.

Lovely paint job on that 37.....! -
I removed the glazing VERY carefully from the front using a sharp knife to prise it out but getting the "gubbins" from behind took what I would describe as "gentle force"..... HTH.

Hi all. I've just posted a video of progress on my 25 conversion from the Heljan model. You can see the update here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ Cheers. Sean.

The bodywork is now complete on my Heljan 25. Paint is yet to be applied but you can see the results here..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ Cheers. Sean.

Must get my Mk1 Escort sorted...... -
Gone slightly off topic but no worries, I'd say that if the Heljan version is released with the split centre boxes, just cutting out the centre bar and replacing the glazing would give a decent 46. Of course, there is then the triangular bodyside vent to think about..... Right, getting things back on topic, I have posted progress of my class 25 conversion on FB. Recent work has involved "Dual braking" the model..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ or you can see progress on Western Thunder or Modellers United. Cheers. Sean.

Who said it cost £500 Deltic17.....? I know what you mean about that first cut though. Always that "have I done the right thing" moment! I think if you speak to Laurie at JLTRT either by email or at the shows, he will advise what is available. Out of interest, which version are you after as the single piece class 46 type grill is the same dimensions as the split centre box minus the centre bar. Cheers. Sean.

Hi Salty. Nice work so far, I hope my conversion kit will be of some use to you. Lord Flasheart gave me the "heads up" about this thread and I'm looking forward to seeing updates on progress. Cheers. Sean.

Hi deltic17. Thanks for your interest. If you pop onto Western Thunder, I have been running a thread there. http://westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/just-like-the-helbeat-25.5630/ Or Modellers United too..... http://www.modellersunited.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1119 Cheers. Sean.

Hi Peter. I've found you! It will take a good while for me to get through the 185 pages, but if the reading on this page is anything to go by it will be much fun! Cheers. Sean.

Looking forward to hearing that 37 growling away beneath the roof Mike. Cheers. Sean. -
Hi all. For anyone interested, I have started on a detailing project to make the Heljan 25 cabs a little more 25ish. Updates can be found here..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ Cheers. Sean.

I think you are right. The SO were used as dining cars I believe and hence had 48 seats whilst the TSOs were much the same as the Mk1s in layout and had 64 seats. While I'm on, I have started work on a BFK. Details can be found here..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/987152598004135/ Cheers. Sean.
