  1. I must say Simon, I heartily approve of your use of a Hull lad as your avatar. Spiffing, what, what!
  2. I like everything about this photo and think back to 1960 when involved in cable laying the old fashioned way. It's the approach sidings from Hessle Haven to New Inward yard again (see earlier post) outside of Hull. We had unloaded the drum from a 5 plank open wagon by opening the door and pushing the drum over the side. Next job was loading on to the bogie with two jacks seen on board with the steel tube and several lengths of timber. Please notice the complete absence of yellow jackets (or any other colours) By the way, the steel location seen lying on its back had arrived by the same method.
  3. Here's my modest contribution. 1, I'm straight from school in July 1959, joining the Signal &Telegraph dept. based in Hull. Here I am on the right by the way, with my ganger, the now late Laurie Fairbanks on the steps of the control tower at the New Inward yard in Hessle, near Hull. The second photo was taken some four years later inside the workshop yard alongside Hull Paragon station. Now promoted to an assistant tech. class 3. I'm still on the right wearing the very latest fashion, the cut down great/car coat. It should be noted that in those days my meagre pay did not allow me to sport a beard.
  4. Never mind that, the question should be, "Who's on first base?".
