I see you've been taking Trump too seriously then!

I guess I didn't edit my post quick enough! lol

Okay, I have to ask.  We call it "The American Revolution" or "The War for Independence."  Do y'all ever call it "The War of Good Riddance"?

I have noticed that when I click on "content that I follow", I get a distinct feeling of well-being when I see the new entries in the  Jokes thread pop up.  Yes, I enjoy the other threads I follow: Duchesses, Princesses, Class 87s, but the jokes thread seems to be so unifying.  Am I nuts?

Well, then I guess I'm nuts too.  The first thread I check out when I log on is this one.  Even if the jokes are repeats, they still make me smile, or even laugh! (Heck, even the "groaners" can be fun.)

  3. I'll take this opportunity to say that I wish all of you and yours the happiest (and safest) of holiday seasons and to give a sincere "thank you" for everyone on here who has helped me learn so much about how y'all do things on your side of the Atlantic both model and prototype.  Looking forward to another great year!

    It happens.

I sold a Series 3 Landrover three times before anyone actually turned-up, paid, and drove away.

The first two buyers were nabbed by their wives and told firmly that they weren’t allowed to have it!

Which is ironic, given that I was selling it very reluctantly because ........

Wonder what happened to the third guy when he got home with it.  :o

Actually, the answer is that this person is deemed 'a Brit', whereas Scots, Irish and Welsh are listed separately.

So probably the joke is written by an American?

As an American it really is quite confusing.  I was always taught that "British" and "Great Britain" refers to England, Scotland and Wales.  "United Kingdom" includes Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  If so, does that mean Brexit (British Exit) doesn't include Northern Ireland?  (Yeah I know this has the potential of opening a whole bunch of argument).  Of course the number of my countrymen who believe Canada is one of the "United States" can be quite embarrassing.  Oh well.

I will say this though - I do hope all of you will accept my sincere best wishes that you and yours have the happiest (and safest) of holiday seasons.  Reading this thread keeps me sane when it seems that the world has gone crazy.  You guys (and gals) rock!

Do not drink and wrap Christmas presents. If you get a TV remote control for Christmas please send it back.

Ok guys, I'll admit it.  I didn't "get it" at first.  Even after several readings I was still clueless.  My wife, read it once and began laughing big time.  Upon explaining it to me I don't know if I was laughing harder at the joke or at my inability to figure it out.  Oh well, luckily she's around to explain things to me.  :)

  7. I have to say round two of this thread has been just as interesting to me as the first.  What makes the latest posts even more interesting to me is the increased amount of knowledge I have gained over the past three years in both British prototype and model railways - nearly all of it has been gained through all the fine folks on this website.  I am looking forward to seeing how much more I will learn about this and other topics!  You guys rock!!

  8. At one time I was very interested in laying my own track and after buying a small amount of different things figured that I would do it using C&L materials.  Then, there was the problems that I think everyone is familiar with.  I soon put the idea of laying track out of my mind.  Now, however and thankfully, the thought is back on.  While I might never bring this to fruition, I am very happy to see that it appears that C&L is back on track (pun intended).  Let's hope it just continues to get better!

You can tell I've never been married can't you?!

I believe the way it works is . . . . .  she picks a film, you pick a film that she tells you you like, she picks a film, etc.

Isn't it possible to install it on the door itself?

If not, then you need to install a flat backing plate, a thick-ish piece of wood would do, on to the stone wall, before attaching the key safe. I have done this for a post box. Not as secure, I realise.

    Something like this?

  11. Comedy - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Silly, immature, mindless. We watch it every year!

Musical - Another vote for Albert Finney in Scrooge. Always puts me in the holiday spirit.

Documentary. Any of the History Channel's "History of Christmas/Santa Claus" shows. Hard to find...but so very interesting.

Documentary- I forget the exact name...but perhaps "The Christmas Truce-1914" ?

  12. Well, somewhat related, and yes from the U.S.  The day after Black Friday is also known as "Small Business Saturday."  My understanding is that the day is not meant to have all kinds of bargain prices, but rather a day for folks to support local businesses.  I would think that most model shops probably fall under the title "small business."  I'll be at a show (exhibition) on Saturday so hopefully I'll be supporting a number of small businesses.  Crowded, yeah, but with a whole lot more of fun things to look at!

The person you are thinking of is, I believe, Joe Fugate.  His layout was the Siskyou (sp?) Line.  He founded (or was one of the founders) of the online magazine - Model Railroad Hobbyist.  Here's a link that while different than the one John posted is to the same online magazine.

While I am not 100 percent sure, I believe there is a forum available.

The publisher of Model Railroader also has a forum.  I believe registration is free, but I could be wrong.  Here's a link:
