  1. Headlining in two modelling mags in a month and getting two layouts in the 'layout of the year' cannot go without a mention. Great achievement RL.

  3. RL, There is a picture taken in 1959 of a 9F on S&C line in Bradford and Barton book on Skipton -Carlisle with a goods train with a great mixture of wagons. Let me know if you want more details. Tom

  11. Did RL forget to mention loading the van, several hours of stressful work erecting the layout and at the end of the two days taking everything apart and loading the van!! Runing the layout is the easy bit ... Jesse should be paying for the two days of pleasure. Tom
  12. After about 18 months of uncertainty, Ilkley Mark 2 has a new home and rebuilding can start. I have all the anticipated challenges to face, the new home is a different shape to the old garage and doors are in different places. As I stripped the layout down to the bear bones to move it, I am also faced with questions, like having learnt more about the subject do I start again with some of the buildings for example or just use them again and spend my time on other things? More to follow .... Tom
  13. We drove from Vancouver to Jasper like RL then returned on the RM. Sadly whilst watching live TV at our overnight stop on the way north we witnessed the sad events in New York when planes flew into the Twin Towers. Most Americans in the area left for home and incoming flights were banned so it was very quiet in Jasper. The rail journey produced spectacular scenery but was uneventful.

  18. No, I was hoping someone could shed some light. My reference was the book Railways in Wensleydale. Tom

I agree with you, most of the milk from Wensleydale moved east and I have found a number photographs of small numbers of tankers propelled by G5 locos heading to Leyburn or Northallerton but the LMS owned the line from Hawes to Garsdale and one book I have read suggests milk was also moved by the LMS to Garsdale but as yet I have not seen any evidence to support that or an explanation of where it went to from Garsdale.   20. I have enjoyed reading about milk trains on S and C and WCML. I am looking for photographs to aide my modelling. I have one photograph of a milk train leaving Carlisle but it focuses on the loco. Can anyone help please? I am also trying to understand the milk traffic which operated under LMS (or early BR days) west along Wensleydale to Garsdale and the onto the S and C. Again please can anyone help or point me towards relevant literature or pictures? Thanks, Tom
  21. Andrew, I was at the Grammar School from 58 to 65. Your mum's name rings a bell, the only Palmer I remember was the French teacher. Maybe a PM if you want to expand on this topic. I have also been relatively quiet as I have stripped Ilkley layout down in the last couple of months, pending a house move and it is and is likely to be in storage for some time to come. Tom
  22. Tony, I agree with Mark. I have a Cotswold kit of the L and Y 2-4-× T and the box and it looks familiar. Cannot do detailed check at the moment as they are packed away. Tom D
