Must admit that is what I'd go with. 👍
Yes, the best solution is to clean the body and to paint it in black color. Maybe with a yellow stripe...

The blue color is "Ultramarine blue" from the brand "The army painter". The real color seen by my eyes isn't really Conrail blue.
My phone camera has changed the color a little bit. It's more dark and more grey in reality.
Here is the real color seen with the photo of the maker.

Yes a toning down with weathering or a total black paint should be the best for this period.

Once the blue paint is applied, this is the result.
I've tried the blue colour. I don't think it's a possible colour for the beginning of the 1960's...

Yesterday was a day "off". I took more than one hour to switch my layout. I had a nice play/operating session.

Your work of removing the handrails is very good! This tank will be very nice!
This tiny switcher is a very nice. I've seen it on Facebook.
It can be a narrow gauge engine too. I'll be happy to have one for the standard gauge layout to serve the grain elevator.

Thank you, Jacky, it’s funny how this fancy for shortening all the rolling stock items has got hold of me over the last few years, hopefully I can try to keep the whole scene in balance, and it won’t look too horrible. For now I’ve cleared everything of mine out of the house we’re moving from, and it’s stored waiting in the garage of my daughters house, just round the corner from the new place. As a result I can only do “research” on my pad for now. Here’s a view of the main board of the new line, stored away for now, which I cobbled up just a few days before my health failed, strangely enough. It was reclaimed from a board which formed half of an old American line, which needed to be made rectangular, and all the old cork ballast layer stripped off.
It’s 42.75” x 12”, 1080mm x 307mm, compared with the popular IKEA “Lack” shelf at 1100mm x 260mm, and I think the extra width will come in just right. Definitely a place for shorty trains!
That's enough to make something very nice and well detailed in O scale. And with shortys, that's more and more better 👍👍👍

I'm waiting for the result of the gondola weathering.
By the way, a glimpse to Yesterday switching. My son was the driver.
And a global view of the layout... Now I strongly need to make the backdrop! It's one of the first thing I have to do: the look will improve a lot.

Today, despite the hot weather, I tried to paint the trucks sides of the Baldwin. A coat of Tamiya matt black. After a few minutes each coat of paint is dried in surface and ready for the second one.

I like very much your new thread name "Route of the shortys". That's a great idea 👍 👍 👍

Oh gosh.
For O scale I use spray cans. It works well. But I need a specific temperature 19 to 23 °C.The problem is to find the exact colour we need...

My son has started to weather the track
The most difficult thing will be to find the same colours... a little challenge for him 😉

Woaw! These cabooses are wonderful! What a nice collection! 😍
What's the matter with your Weaver caboose? Can we help you?

I'm scratchbuilding a new structure to install on the foreground.
My son would like to use more modern rolling stock. So I adapt my skills making a more modern building.

Someone told me there is a chimney which must not be there. So I've put it away.
