  1. I would agree with you that Hornby have many good models, but it is the lack of clear information of which brand some models fall under which is where they lose points. At the moment there 2.5 categories for models with the following features: Main range: high level of detail, sprung metal buffers, separately fitted parts, brass axle bearings, high level of livery application, cab window glazing etc. (Design Clever: shape of model correct, plastic buffers, no brass axle bearings, lower quality livery application, no cab glazing) Railroad: general shape of the loco, little detailing I put design clever in brackets, as there are really only a few locos which fit into this category, and even then do not always have the same specification. I think the list is: Peppercorn A1, Duke of Gloucester, Hall, P2, Croisti Boiler 9F. These are above most railroad models, but far off the main range models. However there are still over locos which hover in-between the main range and the design clever locos. These are the Star (no brass axle bearings), and the heavy tanks (no sprung buffers). If Hornby made the specification of the two main ranges clear on their website, as well as giving the specification of the Design Clever era locos separately, they would please a lot of people. As they have already fitted brass axle bearings to the heavy tanks, why can't they finish off the job of getting rid of the floaters by fitting brass axle bearings to the Star, and sprung buffers to the heavy tanks. Then if they kept to the two different ranges, they would make a lot of people happy, and start to get rid of the doubt that surrounds what you are actually getting when you let go of around £150 for a main range model.
  2. Just added nothing to the Bachmann 2016 space! But I'm still wondering about the Ivatt 4, Collett Goods, and 45xx from Bachmann.
  3. I think it will just be more of the initial classes, as the next lot (R3405, R3406, R3407) aren't due until June/July this year!
  4. All fixed now! It seems Hornby need to use some stronger glue, I bought a K1 last weekend, and the window glazing was loose in the box for that too! Does anyone know if the A4's are meant to be able to go round second radius curves? I have two sets, it will go round one set fine in both directions, but the first set of driving wheels comes off when it goes round the other set (but only in one direction).
  5. I only have one A4. I bought it earlier this month, and it arrived with this part broken off it (I don't even know what the part is!). I can see there is a slot which one end goes in, but can't see how the other end fits in! I contacted Hornby who said there was a second slot, but I can't see it. Can anyone help!
  6. Do you know if it is possible to move this thread, as it is obviously now relevant to both Hornby and Bachmann! I also received my 60023 today, it really is stunning but unfortunately it is not without the now customary unidentifiable little part at the bottom of the packaging!
  7. Other Bachmann locos I don't know the dates are A1, A2, V3, J39, 56xx, N class, 45xx, Crab, Jinty, K3 and Fairburn tank. Many thanks for any help!
  8. I have updated with details of the two ivatt 2s, does anyone know when the ivatt 4 was introduced. Presumably the rebuilt patriot is not really relevant as Hornby have produced a much more detailed version since then. Does anyone know when the unrebuilt Patriot was introduced?
  9. I didn't realise the heavy tanks had been changed. I think this means the only main range model affected by design clever is the star, with the hall, P2, D of G and Tornado in the railroad range. p.s. Does anyone know what type of buffers the heavy tanks have now?
  10. Thanks, what I find most interesting is that the BR liveries have become more popular on models at the same time as on preserved locos.
  11. Thanks for the information, I have tryed to make the issue of a complete retool/smaller changes clearer by labelling them ®=Previously modelled but completely retooled and ©=Previously Modelled but changes made. If people are able to offer when a model first appeared in shops instead of the year it was announced for I will add this in brackets, but the catalogue year is generally much easier to find! I thought the Hornby Fowler 4F had been completely retooled, but this has now been changed. I did realise about the J94, N2, 61XX, Terrier and L&Y Pug. I believe the V2 is now due a complete retool having had the chassis done 2011, but will add that the Ivatt and Patriot have only had changes.
  12. It is very interesting comparing the Hornby and Bachmann charts that they both show a similar trend in the rise of BR liveries since 2000. Both start of at a similar proportion to each of the big 4, and by the end are much larger, especially Bachmann. This is very similar to preserved locos, it would be interesting to be able to compare the two, but I doubt anyone has that sort of info available!
  13. When you say brand new, does that mean new tooling or not done before? I have assumed new tooling. Hornby: Bulleid Light Pacifics, B12, A3, B17, Fowler 2P, Fowler 4F I think should be new N2, D16 are missing Was the Jinty new? Bachmann: V2, Patriot, Ivatt 2mt I think should be new Does anyone know when the following Bachmann models were released? City, C1 Atlantic, H2 Brighton Atlantic, Midland compound, jubilee, Br 9f, 5mt,4mt (tank), 3mt (tank)?
  14. That is really interesting, especially when compared to the table above which explains it a little. I would be very interested in the Bachmann one too if you don't mind sharing!
  15. Yes, I had a look at this and it does only go to 2011, and also doesn't give the information in an easy way to get at! I will add the Bachmann models I know now.
  16. Changes made, would it be useful to add the Bachmann models in a separate column for easy comparison?
  17. Now edited to include ® for upgrades, and a separate list for Railroad. Other suggestions are very welcome!
  18. That should be ok now, they should be listed instead of a table.
  19. Hi, this is my first post on here so please bare with me. I have been trying to compile a list of steam locos Hornby and Bachmann have introduced in the main range. I have been using the date first introduced in the catalogue (with the date it first appeared in brackets). This is what I have got so far, and I wondered if anyone on here could help add to it. Many thanks.
