  1. Now you know what the Southeastern 376 is like for seats, or rather lack there of. We've had those fecking things for 13 years. We breathe a sigh of relief when a 465 shows up. I think the seating was designed by a chiropractor as a way of increasing business. Greetings all from a wind swept boring borough. All is quiet apart from the sound of our bin falling over every few minutes. Time to throw a bag of rubble into it. A good night was had meeting up with some of the SELKent and Southwark club people. That is all. Enjoy the day. For the ones on the other side of the frantic Atlantic and south of the 49th: Happy Thanksgiving.
  2. I use iso butane to clean track and thin enamels for air brushing. Good old fashioned lighter fluid. Around £3 for 100ml these days.
  3. Rick's leaves currently overhead, heading towards Phil & Tony at high speed. That is all from the boring borough weather. Still playing the hurry up and wait at work. Really getting on my t*ts at the moment. We'll see how things progress as I have an interview with a smaller consultancy on Friday. The offspring ordered a new TV from that South American River for Black Friday. The nice people at Hermes managed to play football with it. The thing was bent somehow so that the screen is warped and you can see at the top where the led panel has been pushed back out of its clips. Trouble is you can't see any damage until it is switched on. That means it was unboxed and wall mounted before the problem was visible. Tomorrow sees muggins dear old dad remove it from its wall mount and install its replacement. Joy unbound. The upside is we inherited his current tv which is a step up from our early led model. I've now got Netflix & Amazon Prime to play with until he finally decides to move out. Tonight I venture into no man's land. (New Cross) to join in the festivities with the Southwark and the SE London Modular bunch. Should be a giggle if this thread is anything to go by: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/127101-fighting-at-exhibitions/ Enjoy what's left of the day.
  4. Well...... in my yoof I had a bit of a lead foot. Had my share of speeding tickets way back when. My favourite was for doing 108 in a 55 zone in Montana. Before the 55 was made mandatory by the US feds, Montana had no rural speed limits. The state was forced into it and had to show enforcement. So the state's solution was to issue a flat $5.00 on the spot "depletion of natural resources" ticket. However, since 92 no convictions. Got stopped a few times since, got a few speeding tickets but all were cancelled. I can't really publicly say why or how they were cancelled though. Nudge nudge wink wink. Now 14 years in the UK, never been flashed, stopped, or had a parking ticket that wasn't cancelled. (3 parking, all rescinded after the council received copies of the relevant Ringo receipts and a nasty-gram outlining what the meter maid should do as alternative employment. edit: speeling chucker
  5. Rob I think I can say most of us have been there done that to some degree over the years. The first thing to remember is, this is a hobby. Its not life or death, it sure as hell isn't a career, and its not something to get stressed about. It is something to enjoy, occupy your free time, and to help you escape the day to day. First, wait before considering selling off the layout and stock. We had a friend who went through similar feelings on a regular basis. He'd look at his stock, look at his bank balance, and wonder why. He'd then go on a purge of just about anything and everything. 3 months later he was buying it all back again. If, after another month or so you are still feeling like the layout has run its course, then flog it off. Keep at least one or two bits of stock or locos as a reminder of how much you enjoyed building it. If modelling isn't doing it for you at the moment, then just push the pause button. Once life settles down and you find the need to do "something" then look to resume. Another thing to consider is just modelling for yourself. Don't think about exhibitions and deadlines. One of the best things I ever did was to forget about exhibiting and just work on Freemo modules. No pressure. Get something up and running, book your module in, then enjoy it. No pressure for exhibiting to the punters, just plain old playing trains. Do the scenery as the mood takes you. Most modules out there aren't complete. Its good to see them slowly improve and edge to completion. Mine sits in the shed and I work on it when I feel like. So, to sum up this wandering text, take a breath. Hit pause on the modelling but don't sell anything off yet. Come back to it when you want. Model for yourself, not for exhibiting.
  6. Greetings and salutations from the boring borough. Since we are sharing car histories. 72 Datsun 510 probably would have exploded if someone had waved an MoT form at it. Total crap but for under £100 it got me to and from school for the year. 73 Cortina mkIII. One of the left hookers built in Germany for the Canadian market, with their 2l engine. For some reason it had a BMW gearbox and when the clutch went, the garage had to order one from the BMW dealer as the Mercury dealer (Ford) couldn't supply one. 72 Ford Pinto (not one of the exploding ones. A college transport vehicle. Again stupid cheap and I ended up replacing the engine after some debris pierced the oil pan. No warning light and it ran dry) 77 Dodge Duster (bought from a friend to help them out financially. Total PoS but a bit of fun) That was it for junk. Afterwards I vowed no more car diy. Apart from the Landrover and the Voyager all cars were new off the lot. 81 Mercury Capri. (Basically the 6cyl rebadged Mustang.) 84 Mercury Topaz. (utter shite and the last Ford) 85 Mitsubishi Mirage (rocket propelled roller skate) 91 Toyota Previa (family time, great for hauling layouts as well) 96 Toyota Tercel 97 Plymouth Grand Voyager (more layout haulage) 52 reg Landrover Freelander (coming up on 13 years of loyal service) There you have it. 40 years of driving. Over 2m km driven. Enough dribble from me. Enjoy your day.
  7. Only when the Actimel lorry overturns.
  8. Good morning afternoon all from the bigley boringest borough. Another day of crap. Debs, please name and shame. I find a blast on social media has an amazing way of working to correct such muppets. If it is my supplier then I'll be taking my business elsewhere, so please do share. Yodel are currently off my Christmas card list. For the third time in 12 months they've had to return our Zooplus order due to damage. I'm really hoping the sh*tgibbon that dropped it had to clean up all 20kg of cat litter out of his/her van. In this case he just quietly pushed the "you were out" card through the door and I caught the barsteward. He had to admit the parcel was wrecked. I don't think the supplier cares as they get reimbursed, so effectively selling 2 times the stock on one order. No POE for me, major fustercluck breaking out. It may be a late night. meh For the rest, enjoy the day and the weekend.
  9. I've got a massively heavy one I brought over from Canada. Haven't used it in years, but will be again in the not too distant future. I use it mostly for windows and doors in Wills sheets or in cutting 3-5mm ply. Mark, drill, thread a spiral blade, rest the work against a clamped straight edge and you can get a perfect window in under a minute. That plastic is bloody thick and hard to cut otherwise.
  10. Beats that fairy twiggy merde from north of Barnet. Give me a 7% London murky over some 4% northern flat and dull twigs brown ale.
  11. Something very fishy and it ain't Billingsgate Market
  12. May I just say WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!
  13. You could go to the N scale version quite easily. https://www.micro-trains.com/magne-matic-couplers A couple of us used them on an OO-9 project a number of years ago.
  14. Morning all from the boring borough. Still recovering from the back/shoulder twinge. Some improvement but planning on taking it easy and not making the mistake of last time and overdoing it. Good luck Duncan. I have often wished I could just say "take this job and shove it" then go out on my own. Andy: there is a special kind of sh*tgibbon that drags people into meetings at the end of a day. In my case I make sure my calendar is set to show out of office during lunch and at the end of the day. This prevents these barstewards from adding me to the invite. In a face to face, I simply rush out the door to an important personal appointment. Steve: hopefully your results will be boring, and a relief. To everyone else. Enjoy the day. I'm heading back to bed.
  15. Moaning all from the boring borough. My back and shoulder are playing up. Loads of muscle spasms and much discomfort. Naproxen, Tramadol, and back to bed. Catch up with all the goings on later.
  16. Athearn have been using the Bachman couplers for a while. In my humble opinion, they suck. Every coupling issue we had last weekend at the Freemo meet came down to crappy plastic couplers. I've got a running programme to replace all non-Kadee and standardise the stock. They may cost more but worth the investment.
  17. Yes they do. Click under HO. £1.60 a pair is reasonable really.
  18. Good moaning all from the boring borough. Yesterday was a total do nothing day. Today I shall mostly be cleaning and doing a clear out of the shed. Anyone want a Wickes 254mm 1500W table saw? Seriously. Free to a good home. The massive IKEA corner desk I use as a workbench has to be downsized as well. I've got to make space for eventual additional layout construction as well as temp storage as we finally start renovating the house in the new year. Coffee calls. Carpet diem.
  19. A bit apocryphal as BC only had 604 until October 1996 when 250 was added. (I used to work in facilities and routings for AGT, now Telus) In the 80s the phone system was rapidly running out of area codes. Prior to 1985 all area codes had to have 0 or 1 as the middle digit. Exchanges had to have 2-9. It was a massive effort across every phone company in North America to change the software on every digital switch and replace all analogue equipment that couldn't handle the change. ITs amazing the useless crap one retains in memory.
  20. I'll be there will bells on. Well if I can turn over a Morris Dancer between now and then. Otherwise it will just be me and my Doc Martens.
  21. Morning all. Thoughts with Debs on this chilly and dreary day. I seem to have something in my eye again. Its Friday and a rather sh*tty week for many is almost over.
  22. I've had Kopi Luwak coffee before. It's not bad but over priced and over hyped. I've also had a coffee porter brewed with Kopi beans that was amazing. Sadly the increased sale of the beans has led to the little critters being caged and force fed to keep up with demand. Won't be supporting that cruelty.
  23. We have had success with Scoot. Its designed to repel foxes but it keeps the neighbour's cats out and our cats from climbing the fence.
  24. Good moaning all from the boring borough. Little of note apart from a lovely sunrise and being fecking cold out. Time to switch on the shed heater in case of frost tonight. I should bite the bullet and just get a thermostat power socket like wotz wez gotz fer the greenhouse. That's all folks. Enjoy the day.
