It's been a loooong time since I last posted an update on this layout. I also haven't done much to it for a long while due to doing other things, but thought I'd share this update while I've found a bit of spare time. The work done in this post was actually done in May of this year... Since the last update, I assembled a couple of Langley Models Horse Drawn Coal Carts, kit number E22 with a minor modification. There should be a panel where you could possibly attach a coal merchants name on the front of the cart, which I replaced with a piece of microstrip to match the other three sides. The shafts and front axle assembly were kept separate to the rest of the cart and the horse to make painting easier. All the parts to be painted were then attached to cocktail sticks with Blu Tack and sprayed in black primer before brush painting them in appropriate colours. As well as the horses, carts and one of the drivers from the Horse Drawn Coal Cart kit, I also used a couple of other Langley figures. These were two porters from kit A124 and a figure that I think is supposed to be smoking a pipe from kit A95. There's also two cats from kit A115 in the photo above, but I haven't put them on the layout anywhere yet. Once painted, one of the porters was fixed inside the front of the warehouse building before the section with the doors was glued on. Then it was all glued to the removable base and the rest of the building finished off. The figure inside the building is lifting boxes and crates to the door ready for loading while another figure stands on the cart beginning to stack the items in place. With the horse still hitched between the shafts of the cart while loading takes place, the driver is standing to the side keeping an eye on things while smoking his pipe. Finally for this update, Stanley Yard made an appearance at the Kewstoke Family Model Railway Show held on the 15th May 2022 at Kewstoke Village Hall in North Somerset. Below is a photo of how it looked while there. I don't know when I'll get round to doing anything else to this layout. Got too many other ideas of things that I want to do and not enough time to do them all.

This is a bit of a long shot, but it's worth a try. I believe at the 2013 Stafford show, there was a demonstrator / display of O gauge trams by Ian Thompson. If I've got this correct, would anyone happen to have any photos of the display during the event? Thanks in advance.

Thought I'd share another photo of the remaining shop fronts from my previous post. They have now had a coat of black primer so you can see the detail on them a bit better than you could before. They're all still attached to cocktail sticks using blue tack if you're wondering what the funny things attached to them are.

Time for an update: The last lot of 3D prints arrived from Shapeways a couple of weeks ago and are shown in the photo below. Doesn't really show the detail very well, but it'll do for now. The ones on the left hand side of the photo are all designed to fit in the same way as my previous design, the two on the right hand side are designed for kits that have been modified to include only one window from the shop front. The one bottom left is the same style as one in my previous post, but extended outwards to give more space in the shop for window displays. The one bottom right is to convert a Kestrel Designs shop kit to mimic the Burnley Corporation Tramways office facade which now stands at Crich Tramway Village in Derbyshire, but without the town name so it isn't tied to a specific location. Since they arrived, I've modified a Kestrel Designs shop kit to fit the Corporation Tramways frontage and sprayed it in black primer so that the detail can be seen better. Pretty pleased with how that one has turned out. Just needs painting and glazing now.

Funny you should mention Crich, I volunteer up there occassionally, although nowhere near as often as I used to in recent years. You've given me a couple of ideas though that I hadn't thought about before, thanks.

Been a long while, but thought this was worth sharing. I started it towards the end of 2017, but then never found time to finish it off. At the time, I thought it would be good to make some extra detail parts that could be attached to the N gauge Kestrel Designs kits to improve their appearance a little and give a bit more variety when using multiples of the same building. So to start with, I decided to make a shop name board with door and windows surround to fit the Kestrel Designs shop kit, code GMKD02. My initial version was a little on the thin side, so warped quite a bit, although it did glue on to the kit nicely, fitting exactly where I wanted it. Having made a few adjustments to the design of the second version, I got it printed shortly after the original version back in 2017 and I've now only just got around to trying to glue this one in place. I found there had been a tiny bit of warping, but not as much as the original one. Earlier this week, I glued it to the front of another Kestrel Designs shop kit and made a start on painting it. The progress on this is shown below. I've made a couple more designs that I am waiting to arrive from Shapeways and will post photos of those up when I've got them.

Update from the Nailsea and District Model Railway Club: It is with great regret that we have to cancel the Nailsea & District Model Railway Show on 28 & 29 March 2020. In view of the latest Government advice, and the fact the school have cancelled all outside bookings, we have no option but to cancel this years exhibition. We apologise to all involved who have worked hard to put this exhibition together, and all being well we will be back next year.

Thanks for the comments and likes everyone. In response to the question of where I keep my tools now, I've got a second tool box for them now.

Been a while since I last posted in here and never did an update following on from the show in December. I don't recall having any problems with the layout during the show apart from locating the uncoupling magnets on the two shorter sidings. Definately need to make some kind marker to show where they are when there's wagons blocking my view in the adjacent siding. Also, shuffling the cards and picking out the next three felt like it took a while to get a random selection of wagons each time. Anyway, the main reason for this update is to show the latest progress. The building that covers up the handle in the middle of the tray has had some concertina style doors glued in on the end, the doorway with the handle directly behind is closed, with the other one being half open. I had some difficulty with the doors included in the kit as the printed face of them peeled away slightly after scoring and folding them up, so in the end I found a sheet of thinner plain green card to use instead. The photo below shows one of the kit doors to the left of the building with my alternative ones glued in place. They aren't quite the same, but close enough for now. After that, the roof was glued on. The roof sections are designed to give an even overhang on each of the individual units that make up the total building, so where they are joined together, the roof needs trimming down to fit. I obviously didn't get this quite right as there are small gaps between each of the roof sections. Carrying on from there, I then glued the entire building to the base. This was done while the base was in position on the layout to help ensure the building was in just the right spot. Also, due to some minor warping of the base before reaching this stage, I wrapped a couple of large elastic bands round the layout, across the ends of the base piece, to try and hold it flat while the glue dried. With the main building fixed in position, the small office section was then glued in place. I then left it all for a couple of days for the glue to fully dry before removing the elastic bands and everything seems to be secure and as intended at this stage. The buiding attached to it's base away from the layout is shown below. I'm thinking some paper or thin card slid into the gaps between the roof sections could be used to look like some form of guttering. Then with the addition of some downpipes, the gaps and joints shouldn't be too obvious. Also, the joint between the building and the ground surface is a little obvious in places, so will need some improving somehow. For now though, the final photo below shows the current look of the building and it's base in position on the layout.

Unfortunately Modelmania and Just in Case didn't make it to the show yesterday due to vehicle troubles. Seemed fairly busy yesterday, although I don't know what numbers came through the door yet. Following on from a visitors comment yesterday about a lack of seating areas for people to eat and drink their purchases from the catering, there is some seating in the schools Auditorium for this use which is located through a door to the left of where T5 should be or through a door to the right of where S6 is on the plan I posted yesterday. Apparently we've had the use of the Auditorium for a few years, but this is the first time a lot of us have found out about it because the school have charged extra for it's use this year. Hopefully we can get improved signage to direct people made up for next time.

Don't know how to resize photos on my tablet, so hopefully this is okay. I've attached a photo of the map on the back of the guide book. A couple of the layouts have swapped position, but otherwise, the layout is generally correct.

I don't have a plan to hand at the moment, however I can try and upload one once I get to the show (I'm not one of the show organisers, just a Club member that helps out over the weekend). I only recall one year where the show was held in a sports hall, but I wasn't a member then and can't remember much about that time. I know I didn't go every year around that time as it was before I went back to my model railway stuff. All the subsequent shows since I've been a member at the club, have been held in the School's Atrium, with a couple of layouts in the corridor and a couple of classrooms, so probably the same kind of area to when you last visited. There have been two small classrooms used in the past which we no longer use for various reasons, one of them being due to the lack of space and access. There is a larger classroom off of the same corridor that we still use, but that isn't so tight for space as the two smaller classrooms were. Personally, I don't recall having had a problem with layouts being crammed in as such over the last couple of years (apart from in the rooms we no longer use as mentioned above), however I don't think I have ever been to a show that doesn't have some kind of pinch point somewhere. I expect it's difficult to predict exactly where people will stop and get in other peoples way. Not all of the layouts for this years show have arrived yet, so I'm not 100% sure of what space there is between everything yet. There are a couple of additional stands in the corridor though compared to previous years. On the question of should you visit again, I'm sure we'd love to have you at the show and hope that you find it better than your previous visit, but I guess that it's entirely your choice as to whether any of what I have written above encourages you to visit or not.
