The Northampton article was in Model Rail, I also wrote an article for the DEMU magazine
The Rail was brought in by road from local sites, it was moved from worksites and stockpiled alongside the track at sites with road access,
The Rail was cut into lengths and sent by rail to Aldwarke or Sheerness.
They also loaded rail into 20ft containers for export to China, Rail was also loaded into Norbert Dingledangle lorry’s and taken to a rolling mill in France
Most of the Rail sent out by rail from the CMD went to Marples and Gilliott at Attercliffe in Sheffield, either loaded on bogie bolsters with runner wagons for the overhanging lengths or open wagon types with short Rail offcuts, old chairs, bolts clips etc

The coal yard at Northampton had upright sleepers sunk into the ground, spaced alongside the Sidings to rest wagon doors on, usually 16 toners !
They also used old oil drums

Currently on holiday in Cromer, several pubs, shops and restaurants closed on a busy Summer Sunday.
Several police cars cruising around.
Passed the camp this morning, 25 + very large and very expensive camper vans scattered around Council car park.
Several vans on the move through the town, no number plates, kids in the front not wearing seat belts, Pity their next destination
Left Northampton last week, travellers causing chaos there, groups moving around, camping on public parks and football pitches, breaking down barriers to access sites, vandalism, mess, damage etc in their wake
Playing the system, taking the mickey and getting away with it

HSA wagons worked out of Corby with steel tube and pipe offcuts to South Yorkshire
Believe SSA wagons took over the flow, several HSA were used as internal mobile skips at the steel works, scrapped a few years ago

We made the journey from Northampton, got there a bit early, walked into the village, found the Retro Greens tea room, 2 delicious full English breakfasts and a large pot of tea for £4.95 each
Really enjoyed the show, packed with people enjoying the layouts up close, eating pasties, drinking tea and talking trains
Even came away with a pack of Hornby cable drums for my layout from Marks sales stand
Enjoyed studying all the detail on BCB
Great show, well done everyone
