  1. Whitemetal chairpins, eh? There's a blast from the past! Anyhoo, onto the next batch of deliveries. A couple more axle/spring etches... These LMS items weren't out of stock, but we have a goodly supply now: These BR roller bearings were out of stock, but are now ready to be snapped up by all you "modern" modellers: Finally, I had a sneaky suspicion that Fruit D was a GWR van. I checked and indeed this completes the GWR roster in the pack. This etch replaces the chassis on the Dapol model bringing 2FS finesse to your rolling stock: One more instalment to come!
  2. Big batch of etchings in the post from Chris Higgs. Some out of stock items sorted and other items given a bolster on the stock level front. I'll split it into three or four posts. First up GWR stuff. The 16' Mink Roof Etches 2-233 are now back in stock and the 17'6" version 2-232 can also be taken off the endangered list: Another returnee is the GWR etched axleboxes and springs etch 2-311. This nifty etch folds over on itself five times to make sweating the layers together a doddle: Finally 2-361, the GWR 9' chassis etch featuring DC brake (shocking!) is now available to buy: Don't forget that if you have ordered any items, that were out of stock, using the Paypal method, then I will be automatically preparing these and sending you a payment request in the next day or so. You won't pay any p&p on these back order items regardless of value. Ciao!
  3. Yes, I have the volume based measure for top hat bearings; very useful for what is a regular seller. To be honest, the buffers weren't too much hassle, I put a pinch in a wooden box then flicked them from one side to the other to count them. As they don't roll very far (in little circles actually) it was fairly easy. With a bit of practice, I soon got the hang of it. Of course most members buy substantially less than 400 at a time.
  4. Pleasant evening spent counting 400 buffers (2-072) for shipment to Denmark. Smaller quantities are available...
  5. Of course if you go into a trouser shop for a jumper, it's only to be expected that occasionally you'll be disappointed.
  6. Just a quick note guys. The Farish wheel conversion axles are currently out of stock (I sold the last about a week ago), but hopefully should be back in stock soon. But why bother? Get some proper 2mm wheels in there and enjoy the sensation of 2FS!
  7. If you haven't had your October/November newsletter yet, or if you haven't read it , there's good news on the p&p front for all of the Association shops. UK orders of £10 and over are now POST FREE. Orders under £10 are a nominal £1.50 p&p Overseas orders of £25 and over are POST FREE. Orders under £25 are a nominal £2.00 p&p Fill your boots!
  8. Having spent an interesting Saturday at an S Scale Society meeting at the Middleton Railway Trust in Leeds, I came away in a modelling frame of mind and proceeded to finish the 1887 RCH wagon that I'd started earlier in the week. I'd also completed a 1923 RCH wagon and here they pose together: I also came away with an S Scale 1907 RCH wagon kit: I must say that while the plastic body moulding is extremely well done, very fine and fits together perfectly, the kit is let down by the etched chassis. I guess we're spoilt in the 2mm Scale Association with our range of well designed etched chassis, but faced with an etch with no locating tabs or slots and the need to make substantial adjustments to make things fit meant that there was more labour than love. One aspect of the etch which was very nice was a four part overlay to make up the brakegear, unfortunately let down by having to be butt soldered to the chassis base with a bit of scrap etch as a support. Anyway I think it has turned out quite nice. Here is an ensemble of RCH wagons through the ages (and scales): In closing I must say that the S Scale crowd were very welcoming and I had a most enjoyable time, nearly as good as a 2mm meeting!
  9. In the post this morning, from Bill Blackburn, filling another gap in my inventory, 2-330: This is a generic chassis etch and was one of the first to conform to the now well established standards for chassis design. Note there are no springs or axleboxes in this etch. You will need castings/etches for these.
  10. Having been MIA for some time, two of our plastic body kits are now available again. These are now produced by the manufacturer of Easitrac: Note that there is no roof with the LMS van. You will need to make your own or use one of the etched roofs from the shop. Also back in stock are the Bonnet End Mink As. These are resin castings of the whole body: Finally, I have a small supply of 7mm disc wheels. The main stock is in the Coaching Shop (3), but occasionally you will need 7mm freight wheels:
  11. Hello! As some of you might know, I have taken on the running of the Association's Shop 2 from Steve Cooper. The shop is generally well stocked, but occasionally items do run out. I'll use this thread to let you know when these are back in stock. I'll also use the thread to give you a bit more info on new products. Please don't use this thread to ask me questions as I may not monitor it constantly. Instead, please email me at shop2@2mm.org.uk or 2mmshop2@gmail.com Thanks! Tony
  12. This is very much my stomping ground as a young lad! We lived in Carlton until 1983 and then moved to Camblesforth where I also bought my first house when married in 1993. As a teenager I was a member of Carlton Towers Model Railway Club and we built a model of Carlton Station in one of the rooms of Carlton Towers. The model was OO and my leanings were toward N at that time, so along with a few others I gradually drifted away. I was always amazed that a village as small as Drax had two stations. If the H&B was a latecomer vying to take business from the L&Y on their Leeds - Goole - Hull line and the NER on their Selby - Hull line, what was the NER itself thinking with the Goole & Selby Railway? As you can see from the comparative maps linked above, the Goole & Selby line was subsequently used for the alignment of the A645 link road removing heavy road traffic from Snaith and Rawcliffe. Drax Hales station on the G&S was just adjacent to Brockholes Lake, dug to provide embankment material for the railway, and a very nice fishing lake. Further to the west, the G&S crossed Barlow Common and following the lines closure, a run of sidings was retained here for PW purposes. It was also used as an overnight stop for Royal Trains certainly into the eighties.
  13. Very nice. It looks a well designed kit. All of Bob Jones' 2FS kits incorporate very accurate slot and tab locators and make them very pleasing to assemble.
  14. Oh I'd beg to differ, Ian. Your own backscene has been done very nicely too. Slightly different style, but certainly to the same excellent quality as Dave's exquisite rendering.
  15. Excellent work Ian. Given me some good pointers for how I might progress my next loco chassis which is going to need as much weight as possible. Thanks!
  16. I've been off it for a long while! I've mounted the worm on the motor, but had to drill the worm out to 0.8mm which was a bit scary (not much meat left). I've also mounted the gear on a muff; slightly reamed to give a nice interference fit. Test fitted some wheels with 1mm axles and fairly pleased with progress. Once summer vacation is out of the way, I'll hopefully reveal more...
  17. All will be revealed in due course! Especially if I can get it to work!
  18. Just in from Poland: Micro components for a long running project kickstarted by the acquisition of some small motors. Contained inside the protective rings are: 4x axle muffs, 2mm o/s diameter bored 1mm worm M0.15 bored 0.7mm 27T gear bored 2mm for placement on muff Whether any of this will actually work remains to be seen! We'll give it a go.
  19. Josh, both of my J39s and my B1 have been "finescaled" merely by removing the wheels and sending them to Gordon Solloway for reprofiling. The loco drivers are obviously too wide in the tyre, but not obtrusively so. I've added washers behind the rear drivers on the B1 to reduce slop. The tender wheels have had their tyre thinned but only sufficiently to ensure the traction tyre can be retained, and the face reblackened. At some point I will probably replace the loco chassis, but this is a quick and easy interim conversion.
  20. Are there any banana labels in your sheet Andy?
  21. Hell, making six wheels is impressive!
  22. I had heard that you tend to carry most of your ballast up front...
