  1. Can anyone give me some guidance please regarding paint mixture for concrete effect. I want to paint my model of the Kingsferry bridge hopefully achieving a close likeness to the real colour. I've got a pot of Railmatch concrete and have just mixed that with some white and grey so I'm waiting to see how that dries out. Paul Cornish.
  2. Hi Chris, Yes, the open space in the middle is already part allocated. The KF bridge is set up on it's own section of base board which is lower than the rest and this will sit somewhere in the middle with the fixed roadway joining the main base board at either end. A lot of experimenting is on the cards. Regards, Paul.
  3. Ian, I was fortunate to go down there about four years ago when I had a look around the bridge. A couple of lads I went to school with were working there at the time. They've had a lot of input and even measured a lot of areas by hand for me. I've been in touch with Mike on several occasions so that useful avenue of info is well and truly cemented. I will post more photos when I've made a lot more progress which will probably be a little while yet. Paul.
  4. Ian, There's a lot of work to do on this yet but this will give you a rough idea of the bridge. Paul.
  5. Hi Ian, I'm working in 00 scale. I fully appreciate the suggestion of N scale but that's just not for me unfortunately. This is where I'm cheating a little, I know the electrics came into being in May '59 but I'm doing an overlap allowing both eras to run side by side. I believe this did happen for real albeit only for a short period while they type trained crews. The bridge opened in May '60 so again a little amount of licence to be applied. The model is all built after a number of mishaps and hold ups. It's now screwed in place with the electrics and winching gear all connected. The basic structure is all done but I have a lot of cosmetic work to do such as window frames etc…. The gates are all made and I have the servos to drive them, these will be connected at a later date. Once I get it looking somewhere near half decent I will start posting photos. Paul.
  6. I'm hoping to build a layout based on the Sheerness branch line as it was in 1959/60 when it transitioned from steam to electric. I will have to apply rule one to a few areas but I'm hoping to be as accurate as space will allow. It has been suggested that I will not have a hope of getting all five stations onto my baseboard given the space that I am working with but I'm determined to exhaust all possibilities. My baseboard area measures 18' x 11 ' and is 3' 6" wide all the way round. Any suggestions would be most welcomed, despite having started this project some nine years ago this is my first attempt at building a layout (still haven't started track laying) and I regard myself as a novice. Paul.
  7. Gareth, This one is probably a little more obscure, I'm looking to fit sound into a 00 Works Wainwright H class. It has already been converted to DCC but I want to add sound and wonder if there is room for a speaker in the bunker. Regards, Paul.
  8. Has anybody fitted a sound decoder to a 00 works Wainwright H class? I'm trying to find out if there is room in the bunker (or any other area) to locate a speaker. Paul C.
  9. I am trying to track down a kit to build a Leyland TD5 Highbridge (Weymann body). I think I'm going to be hard pushed to get the exact vehicle so can anybody suggest some very close alternatives please. Regards, Paul.
  10. Has anyone fitted a sound decoder to a 00 Works H class? I'm trying to find out if there is room for a speaker and if so where to locate it. Paul.
  11. Thanks Robin, very useful info. Regards, Paul.
  12. Hi Richard, It's a few years since you set this post but I've only just seen it. Did you manage to get your H class loco converted to DCC? I bought one a few years ago on eBay and then decided last year to upgrade my project to digital. I paid a visit to Digitrains in Lincoln and while I was there they fitted a decoder for me. They advised that there wasn't really enough room for a speaker so it doesn't have sound but runs fine. Regards, Paul.
  13. Can anybody please tell me which headcode would have been displayed on class 71 locos working the Sittingbourne/Faversham area. Photo attached. Paul.
  14. Hi Andy, The route that covered Queenborough in my time was 54 with the occasional service extending to Rushenden. It's possible that this became 354 when they prefixed route numbers with a 3 but you'll have to check it. The Leysdown route in the 1960's was 62 but, I notice the photo showing one in the bus station has it displaying 360. Hope you get a result. Paul.
  15. Can anyone tell me which Q1 0-6-0 worked the Sheerness line from the Gillingham shed please? I've had two numbers suggested, 33026/33028. This just needs confirming if possible. Paul.
  16. Hi Mike, Any chance of reposting this in a different format please? I've tried to download but it insists that I need "Office" to do so. Regards, Paul.
  17. Hi Andy, Further to my last post I've looked up the society that I mentioned. It is the M & D and East Kent Bus Club. If you email them with your question I'm sure they will reply with the information that you require, (mdekbusclub@gmail.com) Which particular M & D route are you after? Kind Regards, Paul.
  18. Hi Andy, With reference to your posts last April about bus liveries have you got things sorted? There are a number of EFE vehicles available in the livery carried in the 1980's but here is a very good contact to have. There is an East Kent / Maidstone & District preservation society and they are excellent and always happy to help and advise. Kind Regards, Paul.
