I think ‘howlers’ is a bit strong. If an LNERophile like Tony Wright can miss the errors in an initial review, then I suspect the rest of us would too, at least until some helpful soul pointed them out. Errors notwithstanding, I still think they look the part, particularly side-on at layout-viewing distance. And the need for CKs and BSKs can be filled by Bachmann Thompsons - mixing the two types was common enough, at least in BR days. I certainly won’t be replacing my twenty or so Gresley at today’s prices.
