  1. Would any know where in the UK I could possibly purchase an Athearn SW1200/1500 or a Bachmann GE 44/70 Ton switcher in Southern Pacific livery. They seem to be hard to find these days. Shipping from the US seems very expensive these days. Thanks Milano
  2. I have been experimenting today with a number sequences. Hopefully this is how the plan should work. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am placing 3 boxcars on at various spots on the layout then by a random selection (card) introduce another car on the team track and pushed unto the layout by a loco. However if the spot selected already has a car on it I have a number of moves to make to remove said car from its spot. I do hope I am making sense. A further two cars are introduced using the same principles Milano.
  3. I do like inglenooks . Any idea of the dimensions for this one? Milano
  4. Jerry like you I am building my first US railroad. I am building a track plan fro Carl Caredt called "Wye River City" on a board 4x1. I have used Peco settrack point and my first loco ran last night. Very happy . If needed I will also use the Peco loco lift. I see a number of people have used a simular track people. Milano
  5. Just ordered two magnets to try them on various places around the layout. Milano
  6. I have increased the size of the layout to 48" and the first loco ran up and down last night. I using a SW but will be getting a 45T as well. Where is the best to put magnets and how many would I need? Thanks Milano
  7. Hi How reliable are 3 way points? I ask, as I am unsure which manufacture to buy from. Regards Milano
  8. I have started putting together the baseboard and getting some track into position but doing this makes you realise how small this layout will be. Not sure what the smallest HO layout is but this be close.. Think I am going to enjoy this buiild. Any advice on what locos I should be using on could the track plan be improved, Milano
  9. From an operational point how many cars do I need to use and what sort of switching could I do? I assume I start using a loco and a box car from the cassette end and spot the car randomly or use cards etc to determine where it should go. Thanks for all the input. Milano
  10. What a comprehensive reply prof. Thanks very much again. Turns out I only have 4 insulfrog wye points in stock so I will be using them. I will report back in a day or two once I have them and the track down. Really appreciate your help and advice Milano
  11. Wow what can I say Prof Klyzlt. Thank you for assistance. I intend to use insulfrog points with analog control but at sometime in the future. If I used Peco Electrofrog points would this change the look of the track plan? Please include wiring for both if you don't mind. Many thanks again. Milano
  12. Folks I am about to start building my first ever US model railway layout in HO gauge and have decided for the available space I have that a plan drawn by Carl Caredt called " Wye Rive City" would be most suitable. I have a few Peco points in stock but when it comes to wiring a layout I find it a bit of a challenge so without infringing copyright could some maybe take a look at the plan on Carl's website and tell me where the electrician feeds , magnets etc go. Kind regards Milano
  13. Putting the track directly unto the baseboard and not worried about the sound so will try the pva glue. Great advice folks
  14. Thanks folks for your input. If using PVA glue do you apply it to the baseboard first then sure the point /track with a heavy weight until it is dry? Milano
  15. Folks What methods do you use to securing track and points to the baseboard without using track pins? Regards Milano
  16. Following this posting with interest as I am considering something similar. Are cardboard or paper kits available for USA structures? Thanks Milano
  17. Gents thanks for the very welcoming advice. I will experiment with the various track formations to see which one works best Milano
  18. First posting on here folks. I have been reading all the posts looking for a small HO layout to build on a board 40"x 9" and just found this. It's hard to make out the track plan so does anyone else have information about it or similar idea to fit on my board. Thanks for looking Milano
  19. Thank you for the reply. I picked up a few copies of Model Trains International at a show last year and they have a few interesting track plans that use set track. So was wondering how HO locos perform over them. Cheers Milano
  20. Folks How do Ho gauge Sw1200/1500 locos perform over peco set track points? Any stalling etc. Looking at building a small US about using Settrack points I have in stock. Don't have any rolling stock but going to pick some up at shows during the year. Regards Milano
  21. I also looked at the track plan but couldn't figure out what sort of movement you could get using the current track plan. Shame really as its a compact layout Milano
  22. Folks I am assembling a Wills SS53 bridge kit but need some advice - I have joined the two parts of the bridges as per instructions and it's now saying that I use some cardboard etc of the curved roof and something similar for the roadway. Now should I paint the bridge first before putting these parts in place or assemble the bridge fully to make a very solid unit? Thanks Milano
  23. Looking forward to this build too. Is there much playability using this track plan?
  24. I was thinking of reducing the head shunt to the loading dock and adding a cassette not the other end instead. Just not sure how to make use of the siding.
  25. Just been reading on Chris Nevard's blog page about a layout in a box for a customer. It's a cracking little layout that allows for a bit of shunting. I am seriously thinking of having a go myself but maybe add a magnet for hands free operating. Do you think it would be better to have a shorter headshunt and long sidings or keep it as Chris built it? Milano
