    Perhaps it provides a firmer base for the points etc by spreading the weight, stresses and strains?

    Nothing seen stacked up next to the ECML. Only two or three from the orange army present by the distant  vans. The two machines could use the tracks if needs be. They both had wide bulldozer attachments on their fronts that I saw from the other side of the Cock Lane bridge.
