  1. Gentlemen, thank you for your interest and your kind suggestions. The background to this is that I took this issue up on behalf of a  member who by reason of age and an affliction could not readily pursue it on his own.

Kernow have been aware of the problem from the very beginning as he received his O2 among the first batches dispatched. And I'm of opinion it could have been readily resolved by a friendly and helpful response. That has been lacking.

I will not say more other than he tells me by reason of this dis-satisfaction with Kernow he will no longer be a customer. Similarly neither will I because of flaws in my own O2 and lack of faith in future products.

I regard the matter as closed. He and I have arrived at a satisfactory solution-I have taken the part he was seeking from my O2. Simple as that, as Kernow could have done to assist a customer from a returned defective loco.

This seems a sad story for to be fair Kernow did take steps to produce a loco unavailable elsewhere.

  2. Thank you Graham, the problem has been resolved by a "work around." Not ideal but as the term implies and it may work.

But a replacement O2 door would be welcome.

It seems incomprehensible that any model should be sold without adequate back-up arrangements for spares. And no sight of them on even on the far horizon.

I suggest these are reasonable grounds in asking for one's money back if an item for which a spare is sought is negligently made.

...err, yes DLT that was not at all well expressed and thanks for mentioning it, so after standing in the corner,I shall try again.

What I was saying was that the member concerned wondered why so many images on this thread about realistic models were in B&W when realistically we see them in colour. And as I remarked he had a vaild point.

I thus determined hence forward to present images in colour.  The reference to my last post was the prior one in B&W and I repeated the same images in colour.

Having said that I must admit to a certain fondness for B&W images as they take me back to my days  as a boy and avidly looking at the illustrations in my father's Railway Magazine and after WWII, when I bought copies myself, Trains Illustrated.

But, to honour my resolution, here below is Hintock's Sheepcroft Yard and an O2 on a summers day going about its business.

  4. Four in particular and in alphabetical order;

Berrow & East Brent. Mac Pyrke. I operated this with Mac at a MRC exhibition 1977/78?. Strict sequence operation and impeccable running.

Borchester. Frank Dyer. I saw at another MRC exhibition 1949/9, run to a sequence and most enjoyable to watch.

Buckingham. Peter Denny. A complete railway nicely done from inception, execution to operating.

Tyling. Ken Payne. My first introduction to modelling the GWR. Neat and orderly.

With then came fine RM articles, C J Freezer knew what he was doing.

Of course, there are others but these are toward the top of my list.

  5. I agree, but being a little critical (not really as I'm sympathetic) it appears the train is running past its signal.

(Don't worry Les, I know how hard it is when concentrating on making the shot how easy it is for matters like this to occur.)

  6. I wrote an article on the subject of the Weymouth Harbour  Tramway giving a concise history and traffic workings  together with illustrations. It would  be a great aid to  any modeller considering a layout  based on it, or to any member interested in the  subject.

This was published  some years ago in BackTrack. But as I am writing this away from home (I'm currently in Montana) I can't give you the date..

I shall post it when I return home toward the end of next week.

  7. As Donw rightly says an imaginative and intelligent route map is the key to a  layout designed for enjoyment and operation.

It really is one of the first things to consider when building  a layout-for when one thinks about the matter in all its many and varied dimensions it leads to all else.

Andy's schematic route map for Pencarne and Porth Merrion (post #201)is a clever example. Very well done.

  8. I don't intend to get involved in any further discussion on this, I've done what I did and that will suffice for me.

My only further comment on the livery is to refer individuals to my post #1487.

But, I can't resist to remark that the coupling rods in post #1515 are horizontal and without the pronounced Kernow droop.

  9. Thanks ExPat-another like myself I assume-as you say not far out and it will do for me.

I've had enough aggravation with the loco already, and what's an "incorrect" number between friends? It can stay 207.

I like to think that more will look at Hintock as a whole rather than the numbers individual locos carry. In any event, as my website http://www.hintockbranch.com/ makes clear, I model representionally not prototypically.

  10. Phil, glad you like the front end look and thanks for your observations. You know more about 207 than me; was the plumbing there from the very beginning? If not, when was it added?

My period for Hintock is 1937'ish.

In my own defence I did/do intend to renumber the loco 221 and got decals from Fox before I received the loco from Kernow. On arrival the decals were too large and I was so fed up with the loco and my first impressions I did no more about it. But now having got it in a viewable/runnable condition can you tell me please, of a source for the correct size numerals, please?

If I can't/don't renumber I'm content to commit heresy-it wouldn't be the first time in my modelling activities.
