  1. Just received a news letter stating that the Bachmann 102T TEA Tankers (Shell & BRT) will be in stock shortly.... These were only announced in January so are Bachmann going to surprise us this year by sudden delivery on recently announced models. It would certainly make things exciting with Hornby also releasing 2019 models regularly. Appreciate this is only a re-livery and the price is crazed but impressed never the less.
  2. I've had similar problems to what I think you are describing. What I did was to remove the body (there are four screws on the underside of the chassis and it comes off fairly easy). The bogies are held in place by a single screw and if you loosen that screw slightly, the bogies become looser and will hopefully move with the shape of the 2nd radius curves. You may have a more complex issue but worth trying this first as it worked for me. Hope this helps
  3. A few quick observations for my fellow D&E posse. Firstly the "Battle of the 66s" - Clearly Bachmann had these planned for some time & licenses agreed for the GBRf varients- could this be the specific cause of the pow wow with Hatton's? Coming from the angle that the Bachmann version is still very good this will be an interesting watch. Some comments have distanced the Hornby 66 from this battle and then immediately contradicted themselves by saying you can get 2 for the price of the Hatton's one therefore directly comparing it on cost!! It is not in the same market place. Secondly, slightly surprised that the 37 or 47 wasn't retooled. A big clamour on here for this. Understandable from the perspective of the backlog but having had their fingers and various other body parts burnt with the 66 thought that may have been a consideration. Newly tooled modern Image wagons are now the speciality of Dapol and the New Kids on the Block. Although the NP HKA looks great...Wonder what Dapol think about that?! Finally as an aside all the big players need to seriously sort their websites out. On both January announcements I ended up here (which is great) because they had either crashed or not even bothered to fanfare their announcements.
  4. Agree with most comments/predictions on here. The glaring open goal is the DB 60. I'm fairly certain they'll do the Pullman 67 too. The only other suggestion would be the 31's that fell to pieces (same liveries, maybe different running numbers). Won't waste my time on modern image wagons as they seem to have completely given up. Dapol now the leaders in this category. It would be great to see some Engineering traction (Tampers, Stoneblowers, Ballast regulators) but I'd imagine the time has now come that these wouldn't be economically viable for either the manufacturers or the consumers.
  5. Think the overriding issue here is that DJM announces so many projects that can't possibly be delivered on in a reasonable time frame. Even the most diligent and organised people would struggle to maintain the administrative side of a business if they were to embark on so many initiatives at the same time. The Class 59 was announced and it got canned. The Class 74 was announced and it got canned. The 86/87 and so on..... There appears to be no coherent plan of action which can ultimately result in this kind of situation. The APT-P must be a massively complex project to undertake. The big hitters are taking years to produce newly tooled models and they have a whole project team on the case. Personally I'm not interested in the APT but I am in the Class 92. Decided to consider buying one only if and when it appears at retailers (don't care about paying the extra £20 or whatever it is-better than losing £150+). This hobby is becoming increasingly expensive (almost prohibitive in some cases) and it's unacceptable that people are losing money. Appreciate that crowd funding is a risk as money is required up front but surely would be more viable and easier to manage all aspects if less plates were spinning. Most of the other smaller players look like they are producing models purely for the love what they want to achieve, and one model at a time, because there's certainly no major profit to be made. Really hope that DJ can resolve all the issues and everyone concerned ends up with a superb model without being out of pocket.
  6. Just a quick mention on lead times. Hornby have recognised this in the report as an area to improve significantly but they are certainly not the worst in the market. For example, the Class 87 was announced Oct/Nov 2016 and is scheduled for next month-approximately 20 months from announcement to delivery for a new tooling which has suffered several delays. The Bachmann Class 90 was launched as their 25th anniversary "flagship" announcement but is against the clock to hit their 30th anniversary!! This is one of the biggest frustrations in the hobby for both the suppliers and the consumers and furthermore, clearly affects profit margins for the companies involved. However, the most immediate area Hornby can address is the marketing and disjointed thinking. The embarrassing summer announcement. More in depth research on polls/wish lists to determine what the punters actually want and would pay good money for. Launching an HST set but not complementing it with the relevant coaches and vice versa. I wish them well....
  7. I visited Hatton's last week and had a good chat about the Class 66. As some have alluded to here, I think we can assume that Bachmann have exclusivity for most of their previous versions. The Large Logo negotiations were only finalised and agreed after the initial 30 were confirmed and therefore it wasn't done as some 'dramatic announcement'. It also appears to be the most popular livery (unsurprisingly) but still available to order so get in quick if you want one!
  8. Not sure if this has already been mentioned but just had a very quick glance at a model rail database and it appears that none of the Hatton's versions are going to be duplicates of the Bachmann one's,either past or present, except for 66705 GBRf Golden Jubilee (which goes for nonsense prices on auction sites). This allows everyone to keep their Bachmann versions and then add the Hatton's ones without worrying about discarding/selling anything if they so wish. The Bachmann version is still a good model but now will be superseeded so maybe it has been factored in that most people would keep their Bachmann versions which would otherwise have been risky for Hatton's to then repeat those numbers. Taking that theory forward, as Hatton's now have the rights for 66789, maybe Bachmann will do Biffa as a Limited. Some have alluded on here that Biffa was in the pipeline so do Bachmann already have exclusivity or was it Hatton's who landed permission and will announce in due course? Furthermore, would Hatton's upgrade any of the previous "special one offs" like Evening Star?.....Doubt it, unless they want to redesign the bell !! Of course could be completely wrong but would be interesting to hear opinions.
  9. Well I guess there are the Kernow Limited Edition 31's and 50's and also the 87's and Loadhaul 60 but I totally get where you're coming from. If new/revised liveries of anything were revealed as part of the January announcement that would have been great. However, I don't think making a statement in May as what merely appears to be a continuation of their annual offerings required the "big announcement" treatment.
  10. As Hatton's quite rightly have gone for the popular standard liveries, I wonder if Bachmann will spring into action with an imminent ltd edition 66789 (Large Logo) and 66783 (Flying Dustman) or whether they will abandon the Class 66 altogether....
  11. I am a massive fan of Hornby and really will them on to flourish both economically and also in their standing as an iconic company. Whatever genre of modelling you are in to, the complete lack of variety is the issue in relation to the magnitude of the announcement. A few re-liveries and rehashed scenic items from 40+ years ago does not warrant the big build up. Hatton's have completely embarrassed them with the Class 66 revelation. No fanfare, no froth building just BANG there you go boys and girls, have 30 varieties of a newly tooled loco AND we will get it to you within a year (take note other companies too).
  12. Definitely an exclusive to Olivia's Mike. For "standard manufacturer release" read pristine only, as seen in pictures with no added modifications like brake pipes etc (which are included in the detail pack). £75 is eye watering but unfortunately it's the way the prices are now going. However they regularly have 10% off offers (there's one at the moment-shame the tanks aren't available yet!!). I don't think they will sell out for a while as they are doing quite a substantial run.
  13. Quick video of BOC Tanks on Olivia's website. Go to Heljan>Wagons>BOC Tanks. These apparently need minor adjustments and will then hopefully go into production but summertime looks a bit ambitious. Also, no factory weathered versions now but they will offer weathering in house. The transfers will allow for the type of gas to be changed along with renumbering options.
  14. These two were together today in Donny. Come on Bachmann, get cracking.....you know we won't resist them
  15. Just been looking through your topic and thought this might be of interest. I got them from a German Model Shop via mail order about 4 or 5 years ago. They are by ACME Ref No 45060. Not precisely the same as those in your picture as the body has more ribbing and there is no brake wheel etc. Obviously HO scale but if you don't fancy scratchbuilding you might be able to still source-maybe from either German or Italian sites.
  16. There's no official mention on the website apart from the statement you will have seen connected to the van in the latest additions section. I guess they will want to get further down the line before inviting pre-orders.
  17. £70 for the pristine TEA wagon and £75 for the weathered one. They are going to produce multiple versions including two different bogie types and represent both types of brake wheels. Also differing liveries for liquid Nitrogen, Oxygen, CO2 etc. There is a possibility that they may offer a 3 pack (like RevolutioN have done) for a combined saving. The CAD looks very impressive (although I have no idea what a good CAD or bad CAD look like). This is a brand new tooling comissioned by Heljan. Not sure if tooling has commenced so time scales are anyones guess. They were hoping for Christmas at the latest and may air freight in like they did for the EM1/2, which would save time on shipping. Regarding the VAA/VBA - you get one free for a rake of 10 TEAs. The next van would be half price after that. Hope this helps to clarify. I have no affiliations here but wish them all the best with this project.
