  1. Brill! The blue tit looks a tad bedraggled!
  2. I reckon Concertinas would be a good candidate for 3D printing. Does anybody do them?
  3. It must be Dowlais Top sheep that are the ultra-intelligent ones then: they are also the ones who invented and developed the ‘rolling over the cattle grid’ trick as well. My admiration knows no bounds.
  4. Sheep in that uncomprehending way!? What a slur on Valleys sheep. It’s just that we don’t comprehend them! May I point out that it was a sheep from Merthyr, on the Skip road to Cardiff, that first fathomed out how to cross a cattle grid by rolling over it! Bet you never did that! Uncomprehending indeed.
  5. I was about to do a ‘worried of Hebden Bridge’ post about the lack of swallows. But I have just seen my first two of the year, a bit later than sightings by others. Hopefully, they will fly into our barn and nest again. We used to have 6-7 pairs of nesters years back. They then disappeared completely, but over the last three years we have built back up to 3 nesting pairs.
  6. When I was in northern Finland many years ago, I did the same with a quickly-made Huckleberry Finn rod and worm. First cast got a thrush catching the bait in flight;, nothing after that, neither from sky nor water. Thrush flew off after dehooking.
  7. Looked more like a patchy blackbird to me, then I noticed you were across the pond. So American Robin, now it makes sense!
  8. And I’m on Glengettie, blended for Welsh water, but drinking it in Yorkshire. Shall be moving onto my just-delivered Stod Gold at about 9 o’clock.
  9. Looks like a very nice shelf of coaches there.
  10. I notice that the Swedish WD has a 6-wheel tender. Was it oil or coal-powered? Great photos btw.
  11. I think it is now called Pledge. Seems confusing because they say it is a wax, but I think this stems from the American market. I guess other manufacturers’ products can do the job as well, it’s just that we’re fairly safe and conservative in pledging our loyalty to Klear. Pun there.
  12. I’ve used it on my kitchen floor, and it worked on that as well. Is there anything that the stuff can’t do?

You must have a Leylandii twig lying around somewhere, hopefully? in your garden so that you don’t need to overcome self-isolation and climb over a fence.
  14. Read my RSPB newsletter/email this morning, and it said that yesterday was ‘ bat appreciation day’. Haven’t seen one this year, any luck with you?
  15. Btw, my favourite bee was female tawny mining bee, very colourful and iridescent in the sun.
  16. So was I, until I saw where you were based!still, a goodie.
  17. I have been working in the garden during this lockdown. I must admit that the constant, incessant, interminable buzzing of bees is getting a bit much. I know this is off topic, but I’m sure I can call on your support for bringing back road noise.

The fireman on an autotrailer engine had to be higher grade than normal, I believe. So could the non-availability of such a bloke mean that the loco had to work in normal mode?
  19. Brill! The other day, my cat had stalked and trapped a squirrel. I admit to thinking this would be the first time our cat would have got one. Lo and behold, the squirrel attacked the cat, who promptly ran off! Some cat!
  20. My beer drinking is restricted to Stod Fold (Halifax, btw) Gold for a while. I have taken delivery of 32 pints in a ‘bag in a box’. Very nice too, and keeping well. My son joins in, so it won’t last the month that is the ‘warranty’ for its keeping. Came to 1.53 per pint, including delivery.

Did Des and George tell you this, or have you made it up?

Agree, and it shows up the King boiler. Pretty big, isn’t it?
  24. They would be over the moon if they could reach 1000, or even 500.
  25. I went to watch Jones School, West Mon play Neath GS in the late 60s. It was played at The Gnoll, cost everybody a quid each to watch a schoolboy match. Neath won 3-0, very tight game, watched by over 8000 people! Those were proper rugby days.
