  1. Crazy isn't it! If they had managed to rebuild all the types at once would have been a lit easier - presumably 69621 is still an N7/GE as it's got it's belpaire box. Although why call it /GE instead of a number?!

    69621 is round-topped..

She was the Last N7 built and the last loco to come out of Stratford works...Very sad times but we are lucky to have even at least 1 left.

  2. 69612 with a round top boiler would make it a /4 as it was one of the original batch? I think...!

Ah, my mistake...TOO MANY Variations why couldn't the GER/LNER make things simple haha

  3. I was interested to see which types of N7 they are due to bring out, looking into it, Oxford announced that they are bringing out:

    1. K85 - I would assume this the current GER Grey prototype 1002

    2. N7/GE - Again I'd assume this is the 8011

    3. N7/4 -

    4. N7/3 -

    5. N7/5 - This is definitely the 69612 as the preserved N7 69621 is an N7/5

So according to what has been said we could see 2 more versions of the N7 in addition to different liveries, as noted a GER Ultramarine Blue N7 would go down well.

  4.  the non-radial handrails on the J15 come to mind,

I don't think so, to be honest, it's providing more holes into a manufacturer than needed, granted the Dean Goods had a lot of issues, perhaps a lesson for them as they enter a very small market and we as modelers tend to know a lot more about the locomotive.

To some modelers (Like myself) if you get something new which related to the theme of your layout, then isn't that a good thing?

This is the first time an N7 is being made for the first time in the RTR range... Oxford could easily have designed and upgraded a model which had already been made by another manufacturer.

Again I do agree with the NEM coupling problem, as I said earlier in interest if they will be removable, the whole idea of modeling in the first place is to take a model and edit it to suit a particular locomotive that you like the look of, or saw as a child back in the steam era.

A bit of optimism would go a long way,  I have to say they look very impressive and having looked at the previous engineering samples I cannot see any major issues with this.

On the upside here is what I intend to do with 8011 when it arrives changing it to 8993, please note the black & white image is not my own.

  5. Talking about the NEM couplings, if someone has the Adams Radial Tank, if they do, are the NEM Couplings and Pockets removable?

The reason I ask is simply that I am sure a modeler would be able to convert those couplings. Even using 3 links or screw links, which I certainly plan to do.

  7. Hi

I am looking forward to the final model and the photos look super! 16 years ago myself and my father built a 7 1/4" Electric Tram Engine based around the J70.

So this model would be a fantastic addition to our 7 1/4" Locomotive! Yes I still have it but it hasn't seen a piece of track for 15 years (a shame I know).

Sorry about the quality of photos, I am trying to find the original photographs!

Edit: Not too sure why but the post keeps flipping the images... Hmmm...

    Very Nice,

Would you be at all interested in running it again? I am, a secretary of a 7 1/4 inch railway in Norfolk, called the Top Field Light Railway, controlled by the Whitwell & Reepham Model Engineers Club (A total mouth full I know) if you are on Facebook you can find us there. In addition, we are on the 7 1/4 inch gauge society website.

    Thank you.

    Tom

  8. Back to Gresley days. W1 No 10000 built using Graeme Kings resin conversion kit and Hornby A4 Falcon Body and correct Corridor tender.

Total repaint using Railmatch paint as I was not happy with trying to match Hornbys version of Garter Blue which is nothing like any other shade available that I am aware of.

Since photos I have adjusted rear end of Loco as slightly high in realtion to the Tender.

Can you see the join ? :O

    Hi,

Quick question as per you W1 in LNER Garter Blue, what was the rail match number and did you re line the parabolic curves around the Wedge nose?

As I am in the planning to do this model, thanks

    Tom

  9. Fantastic weathering - your overall grime really sets the scene. I like the puddles in the ballast/ash too, a nice touch.

    Nick

    Thank you

Although credit for the weathering has to go to Grimy Times - However the layout is a Club layout that I keep for the club as we have a lack of room.

  10. I’m pretty sure the answer is no. Neither of the Oxford sites has been updated for quite a while.

The site only get's updated when new models have been announced or progress on the model has continued, again your quite correct nothing new has been said. This being just my opinion but I think it might be another 6 months before we see this lovely model hit shops and run onto our layouts...

  11. I think this will be a lovely addition to my collection. I do model the NER but I seem to have a number of GER locos creeping in. the lovely J15, and D16. I am even looking at the B12 (no never had one ...ever)

The locos that are coming out are a nice cross section and seem to be complementary of each other with the B12 taking the express longer hall, the D16 mid range with the J15 and N7 being the smaller local services... alright the N7 was the Jazz services but I think the group will look really good together!

It's been fantastic really, Eastern Region Modelers have been getting some real love. The GE section are very and were very lucky gaining a B17 with Stratford Tender, B12, D16, J15 and now the N7. I do hope that the other manufacturers see that the NER and a few other Eastern Region railways need some love.

  12. And goes some way to mitigating the disappointment following their recent announcement to do a pointless (to me) rail cannon!

I thought the WW1 & WW2 Railway gun was a fantastic announcement, relating to Military modelers, yes they may not be in the majority, but I think it's worth it! Plus not many RTR manufacturers have actually done anything in relation to the centenary of WW1, Hornby did a troop train which was not anything amazing, Bachmann have done the A WW1 Ambulance Train, Warflats, Parrot wagons and the ROD 8K, in addition to the 009 WW1 Railway wagons and loco's, so with Oxford Rail doing the Railway gun and the ROD Dean Goods 2330 it's a good addition if I am honest.

Plus with the unavailing of the N7 engineering sample, to me it's the icing on the cake.

  13. Absolutely fantastic images, this will be a perfect locomotive for anyone's layout. I really do hope that some for of destination boards are provided with the model, however I am happy to scratch build some. Unless someone already does them?

  14. Thought I would share a photo of my LNER B12 Renumbered to 8559 - I was lucky enough to source photographs of the actual loco in LNER Apple Green and fortunatly matched the loco with the steam pipe added to the side of the smokebox.

  15. Thanks for this. No photo's though!  :drag:

It's a shame that there is no photo, however they don't seem too open in sharing photo's etc, but on the bright side we could see the model at the end of the year to the start of 2019.

  16. Please carry on, this thread has been very quiet over the last couple of months, anything related is good discussion IMO! Hopefully it will come to life post-London Toyfair later this month. Quite

Quite right, I follow this strand for that reason, plenty of positive comments. As a modeler of the GE - LNER section the N7 one of the best engines to choose from. I'm surprised it's taken this long for a manufacturer to do such a popular locomotive!!  Plus as my layout is set pre WWII having a B17,B12,D16/3 and a pair of J15's it's not right to not have the suburban tank engine.

It's just a matter of time before I can hopefully see a J17, J20, J67/8/9 and the LNER E4 Intermediate in the RTR range

  17. Indeed, and any clarity on the model to be finished as E9621, or news on an N7/3?

Edit: It appears that OR76N7003 ie the model being released as E9621 has now changed to 69612 with early crest. Was this a round topped example?

It's strange as the image show's 69612 but the text reads 69621....Very confusing

  18. From going through this,it does seem to me that there is a lot of healthy & unhealthy opinions, as regards to previous comments just as, ' making engines like J15's , Claud Hamiltons and Peckets haven't helped them' Well that's not entirely fair now is it??

Hornby have started a big ball rolling building the little industrial Peckett (I think it's a fantastic model and I own one) So Hattons announced that they will be doing the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0? But Why?? Answer because the 1960's steam industrial scene is very small but has a large following, with space for model railways getting even smaller building 00 layouts which are end to end and have a small fiddle yard with lot's of little industrial's around is becoming quite a large area of interest.

I won't be surprised if soon we start to see 1970/80's Early Heritage railway scenes, with overgrown platforms,  new track being laid in the platforms and rebuilding of the station buildings etc. What engines were used in the early Heritage circuit, that's right industrial's which were painted up made to look very very smart as they were the engine to represent the railway and were always there to run.

Adding onto that; Magazines like Model Rail making or have made models like the Y3 Sentinel & J70 tram? Which I think is a fantastic idea and I have a Y3 & fully intend in getting a J70 Because they are small, easy and they fit the future of model railways,  in small layouts which require a lot of detail in a small area. Bigger layouts are to become club layouts, because let's face it our fantastic hobby is not getting any cheaper so it will become harder to get models and with space being an issue layouts will have to become condensed. Unless a group comes together to build a layout with a specific vision.

As to the comment that Hornby's going down for making the J15 / D16 model, again I don't think that's fair either, I live in East Anglia and have a large interest in where I live (Who doesn't) But the fact is before the new J15, D16 & B12 were made, we had nothing but kits (which are very rare or expensive to buy) or had to convert models. To me that's not the same as having a model which is branded J15 or D16. As a modeler of the GER/GE LNER I count myself lucky and I am very happy to see Eastern models being made, more notable seeing an N7 being made by Oxford rail who again is tapping into the East Anglian modelers market.

In the end why are so many people reading on this thread; because we all care about this company which has helped forge our love for model railways; I like to think I am one of many which looks forward to seeing what Hornby will be doing, with it's new staff plus seeing Simon Kholar returning to Hornby brings a fun and nice face back to the company. I think Hornby has a bright future, no matter what happens I will always support Hornby in there decisions.

  19. Not my models, but examples of the GER versions that I saw at the East Anglian Model Railway show being modeled in 0 Gauge. Obviously carrying the the two typical GER Liveries I find the Grey and Crimson livery the best in my opinion. I could be wrong but the think the first picture isn't a C53 as it's slightly different to the lower picture, they have been modeled fantastically.

  20. Well 5 of my mates have put in emails for a GER version, I mean what's not to like, they are very different to the LNER & BR versions and there are people who model the GER who need RTR loco's. To date Oxford Rail are doing the GER N7 perhaps it would be good to see how well that sells then Model Rail could decide whether to move onto a GER C53 in the future.

I myself have ordered the LNER MR-209 No. 7137 the version with the skirts, and really look forward to seeing samples at Warley, if there is to be some samples :)
