Agreed.  Although that was hardly the point I was trying to make.

Original comment was slightly harsh and we cant all be master kit builders and painters. However, we only get better with practice and those of us who don't, don't build kits or from scratch :D

  2. A few scans from my 35mm & 110 instamatic photos from the 1980's.

First up, a grabbed shot of 56007, running through Trowbridge, light engine towards Westbury. This was a weeknight visit - depending on the date, I was probably waiting to see what class 50 was on the Westbury - Malago Vale ecs or the Paddington to Westbury, diverted to Trowbridge due to the Westbury resignalling works.

56032, 56043 and an unidentified class member, Westbury Depot. One of my many Sunday afternoon visits, sadly, undated.

56039 approaches Trowbridge with an additional Westbury to Bristol train, run by BR icw the Merehead open day, 25th June 1989.

56031 i believe, pauses at Trowbridge, to drop off traincrew, with an oil train - possibly from the London area? undated

    56039 again, at Westbury, 25th June 1989.

Hi, Dave. I like the photo’s of the WCML to the south of Carlisle. All are full of interest and nostalgia. I particularly like C18345, at Penrith, with 87025, on a Penzance to Edinburgh express on the 6th March, 1993. The 87 makes a fine sight from the three quarters view from the rear, and to think that such trains are now XC Voyagers.

    With warmest regards,

     Rob.

I think its highly unlikely this is a XC train, as the coach is a mk3, which (other than sleeping cars) only ever appeared in the West Country on trains from the North West & Midlands on Summer Saturdays, when WCML sets were pressed into service. I don't ever recall seeing a West Country to Scotland train formed of Mk3.

  4. As well as Bath to Wellow and Wadebridge to Padstow (already mentioned) Ive cycled the Radstock to Great Elm route of the old GWR North Somerset branch, as well as the S&D between Radstock and Paglinch Farm, nr Shoscombe.

The North Somerset line is quite interesting with an old brake van rusting away at Mells Road, as well as a fair bit of rail still being in situ along the route. In some places, the track has just been tarmacked over. (My YouTube channel has a video of a walking visit to this portion of line - sorry - not in a position to post the link here).

It's funny Rich, the livery really suits the power car and makes it stand out in model form, even more so than the Swallow / Exec versions. Personally, I just don't have the budget, or the space to go down the 70's / 80's route but with the help of my friends, we can do a pretty good late 80's early 90's effort - something I'd like to do for half a day, possibly at Trainwest

If you did want to do a day in 80's mode, I'd be over the moon to help you out with stock (fairly rigidly 86 & 87 - no triple grey!)

  6. Thanks to BMRG for another excellent show - even better when it didnt clash with the Grand National!

I certainly noticed the show was quieter on Saturday - but am certainly not complaining. There was no struggling to view the layouts, jostling or backpack assaults - and no smellys :D

I really appreciate the level of trade support - I certainly bought more than I was planning to!

It was really good to meet Callum (Amiens 1918) and Laurie Calvert (Cato Pass). The quality of the layouts just gets better and better - well done to all.

Any plans to have San Maria Gandia, Oak Road or Tidworth? Some of my favourite layouts from the exhibition circuit.

I see links to my videos have already been posted here - thank you!

Fair price but the madness here is yet another paint it yellow and stick a poor quality Network Rail sticker on it situation.

Well, the seller is obviously a West Ham fan - enough said :lol_mini:

  8. I tried your rusting method on a Dapol O gauge 16t mineral wagon.

At this stage it looked brilliant - thank you! Unfortunately, i tried adding a tiny bit more of the Typhus Corrosion and wasnt happy with the result. Ive then compounded the problems, but have salvaged it to a degree. I know now for the next time! As they say, less is more sometimes.
