  2. Back to France for todays batch.

The Chopper Topper tour ran on Saturday 8th August 1998. Starting at Auxerre, the tour ran out and back to Etang, via Saulieu and Autun. Traction was 2003 (20139) and 2004 (20228). Not something that happens in the UK, the CFD traincrew treated passengers to a few runpasts at stations enroute.

The train is seen at Auxerre, prior to setting off for the days events.

First stop was at Avallon, where the days first runpast took place.

  6. Today's photos are from a visit to the late Sir William McAlpine's Fawley Hill Museum. This first batch are of the standard gauge railway - which features the steepest adhesion worked incline in the UK.

The first couple of photos show some of the reclaimed architectural pieces that are a feature of the grounds.

  9. The early 1980's saw me start secondary school and with quite a few of us spotters starting there, a railway club started up. A Summer Sunday saw the railway club travel, by train, to the West Somerset Railway. Shortly after departing Trowbridge, we went straight on at Bradford Jn and headed towards Melksham and Chippenham. This was before the re-opening of Melksham station and started us wondering how far this diversion was going to send us. Not very far, as it turned out, for our 3 car DMU changed direction at Thingley Jn and headed off down the main line towards Box Tunnel and Bath. These are my 126 instamatic shots from that day.

First, the former Admiralty stores at Melksham.
