  1. Does anyone happen to know the years that the Regional Railways class 37s recieved that livery? I just ordered 37429 in the Regional paint. I know its much later than my 1986 era but I like the paint so....
  2. Awesome. Thank you for the info and the link lads!
  3. Sorry, I'm modelling in OO. That is a wealth of knowledge. Is there a number series listed somewhere? I broke down and ordered a Mk2 BSO and a Mk1 BSO but unsure of the variations. Also got a couple Mk1 SO/SKs. I will have try and see these points when I get the coaches in hand. Lima made Mk3 sleepers are they SLE or SLEPs? Did resturant cars ever run on the West Highland? Thanks again!
  4. If I may also ask, is there list of where 08s were assigned? I just purchased Bachmanns rendition of 08818 and am curious what the chances are it was assigned to Glasgow?
  5. Albie, could you tell me why you like them?
  6. Dog danglies? Now thats funny. Could you offer why they are? I use to like sountraxx over here until ESU brought out there "drive hold" and how you as the end user program them. But does not make Soundtraxx dog $#!@.
  7. This is all wonderful information. I appricate everything that has been discussed. I ordered my first class 37s today and was going to order some coaches and such, but the BSO/Ts are proving to be besting me. Sleepers are proving difficult to locate as well. Could someone explain the difference between Mk2a, Mk2d and Mk2e BSO(T)s. I've also seen Mk2f coaches but unsure of these are accurate. As for the timetable, should i look at ebay for those?
  8. Ive never heard of Zimo. What is it?
  9. Thank you for all the comments, it has all been cleared up for my simple mind.
  10. I have spoke with Charlie but was directed to Matt Herman.
  11. Thank you Paul. So is it a licensing reason why the third party can not save there project as a select format the same way ESU does? Forgive me I'm just trying to understand why it can't be done before I write off $1400 and turn around a spend another $2000 for sounds.
  12. Thank you for your replies. I guess I'm not understanding or explaining myself clearly. I'll contact ESU.
  13. With Loksound Select decoders you can reblow them just like v4s. I've done it. The only difference in v4 vs Select is in a v4 has the ability to add your own sounds, where the select doesn't. The Loksound programer has the ability to save projects in both v4 and Select formats.
  14. Even with a Lokprogramer? They have to be ESU files?
  15. Hey folks, I ordered 4 class 37s and a Bachmann 08 all with out sound this week as I have a dozen Loksound Select decoders from my old North American collection that I will be reusing in my recent purchases. I see all these wonderful sounds for v4 loksound but can't find for download class 37 or class 08 sounds from Loksound like I can for North American locomotives. The only thing I can find is preloaded sounds on v4 decoders which I can't justify paying the same price of a loco for a decoder and then have to purchase sounds when I have 12 decoders that I already purchased. Anyone have some ideas or can direct me to a company who will sell me class 37 sounds for download for my selects? Thanks in advance! Alex
  16. 37409, that info is spot on. I can now preorder with confidence the coaches I need and types. Thank you again! Alex
  17. 37409, thank you kindly for that info. That is exactly what I needed. Now I can budget my equipment needs and still be fairly accurate. One quick question. You mentioned the SO/SKs, BSO and BSOTs where used on the day trains. I guessing the 1S07 service would leave there sleepers at Fort William station and the loco and cars would become a train to Mallaig? Same in Glasgow with the sleepers on there way to Euston, that left them free for a morning train? I think thats what you said in that part so my appologies if I am reiterating what you said. Do you happen to know the schedule for the local freight services and days? David, sorry for the two thread confusuion. I do certainly know the sleepers never went to Mallaig. I hoped the two threads would have prevented that. Thank you though for the clarification. Thanks to you both! Alex
  18. Hey folks, While I wait for several books to arrive, could someone maybe point out the typical arrangement and type of cars on the Glasgow to Fort William/Mallaig passenger/sleeper services circa 1986? I'm having a hard time picking out the different types in the videos. Thanks in advance! Alex
  19. Well that puts a damper on my 1989 year then, thanks for that bit of info Rob. Maybe 1986 or 1987 instead. Thank you for those book references, I will certainly attempt to locate them. The class 37 page has been a wonderful tool thus far and have a snap shot on loco workings. Train codes are proving more difficult but think I have the ones I need to worry about most. Thanks, Alex
  20. Sorry for the use of extension. I carried it over from TS. My layout will be two tier connected by a helix. The upper deck will represent Fort William to Mallaig. The larger lower deck will be Fort Willaim to either Bridge of Orchy or Crainlarich. I may have to use some modellers licence and include 37427. I quite like the Regional Railways scheme. What year was it painted? I hadn't thought of modelling the steam train as I am setting mid spring as my theme, so I may repaint my Mk. 1s blue and grey to be simple. I like the idea of Intercity charter cars as well. The triple grey scheme is certainly not my favourite but if it fits the era I will use it. Did the paper/lumber train operate once a week at this point? How often was the Aluminum trains running? I have seen pictures of two 37s heading those trains. Never considered a 37/7 either. I should search that as well. I am not a DMU fan but maybe I should add another pair or two just to be accurate. Do you know the ratio of DMU vs loco hauled services at the 1989 point? I don't see a DMU set doing more than the one round trip in a day. I'm a sponge for knowledge and will soak up all you can provide. Thank you for your info this far. Beautiful models, are you modelling the same era? Thanks again, Alex
  21. Hello and greetings from Canada. I'm in the planning stages of a West Highland Lines Extension OO Gauge layout based in the late 1980s. I am wondering if someone could point me to a source of pictures, schedules and working diagrams in the 1988/1989 era. I do also have several questions as well. 1. Is it possible to have a couple of Regional Railways liveried class 37s with large logo Class 37s working at the same time? 2. Where the green and cream Mk. 1 coaches still running in the late 80s? 3. Is it possible to have a mix of Intercity, Regional Railways and Blue and Grey liveried coaches together? 4. When did the Sleeper switch to Mk. 2 cars? 5. Was the lumber and paper services still running in 1988/89? 6. Could any of the Mallaig trains operate a mixed? If not, which one operated as mixed? I have watched several videos from 1986 and 1997 on the West Highlands and very little seems to have changed in 1986 compared the the 1997 with EWS and Intercity liveried stock. I have looked at serval diagrams from the 1986 and it seems the Class 37 that came in from Glasgow on the sleeper was then used through out the day making a couple round trips to Malliag before returning back to Glasgow that night on the return of the sleeper. Would that still be the case in 1989? I am thinking 10 Class 37s (7 37/4s and 3 37/Os) and two pairs of class 156 DMUs to simulate the different daily services along the route. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! Alex
