  1. The catenary looks great Keith. I too have masts by Jim on my railway and found them excellent.
  2. Alls well now, thanks Keith, different meds are having things under control. Just noticed all me previous piccys have disappeared, with just a link thingy, which when I click on it doesn't open anything up. Is this normal on older threads
  3. Time to bring this thread up to date a bit. Not much happens on the railway over the summer months apart from running sessions as other outdoor projects take priority during the warmer weather. However, a recent illness gave me a stay in hospital followed by 3 weeks off work at home. So not being too incapacitated I cracked on with the mountain on the other side of the valley. Here's some pictures for the past few weeks.
  4. Happy first birthday Nussbach, was just over a year ago when I started the framework and things have moved on a bit, although there is still loads to do. Couple of shots from phase four which I started just after the new year and is nearing completion. This phase includes two parallel tunnels, the left one being the mountain line whilst the right one is the outer oval which leads to the yet to be completed fiddle yard.
  5. I got the trees from Malcs Models (my local model shop) Just short of 7 quid for 10 trees, they also do a much bigger bag for 20 quid, here is the label on the bag.
  6. GE 4/4II 622 Arosa summits the line with a Glacier Express Service as it exits Thor tunnel. The hillside is all the new bit. the viaduct is just a card template atm, just to give me some ideas/ thoughts for the future. Need to add some trees me thinks. \
  7. Testing, the lower tunnel exit. The tunnel mouths on the curves are 5mm wider than the ones on the straights to allow for the overhang on the coaches. Need to add some black card inside the tunnel.
  8. Started phase 3 the week before Christmas, not far off complete now. Bit of plastering to do
  9. Thanks Gordon, I think multi level scenery is more realistic especially if modeling in Switzerland's mountainous terrain. My layout starts 100mm up from the main framework and the line goes up as well as down, I have plans for a large bridge and a river to be built in the future. Believe it or not this is the most I've done on scenery on any indoor layout, I normally get some track down and run trains, but I've committed to this long term project and I'm quite enjoying learning new techniques, much of what I've learnt from great guys posting tips on this forum.
  10. Been a testing day today. Catenary is up in this section now and a few more details added. Its not till you zoom right in on these sort of pictures that you can see things that arnt not quite right. Note the cobweb of hot melt glue on the bank on the right hand side (now removed)
  11. Thanks for the comments Nigel and Ian, Thats a great clip Ian, nice models of the Brusio and Landwasser viaducts, wish I could create something as good as that (I have a thing for bridges I do) Here's a clip from a testing session this morning, taken a vert shaky helicam
  12. Sorry the photos are a bit carp, was taken in fading light
  13. Completed (almost) scenery, Testing, testing, testing
  14. Completed plasterwork and base coat of paint
  15. Over the last two weeks I've been working (on and off) on phase two. Originally the plan was to have just the lower line in view with the upper line behind the scenery, but then I had a moment of madness and thought I could have the upper section pop out between tunnels. Thought it was a great idea until I started to do it, lot more work but I'm happy with the results, still more work to do on it but 90% complete on this section
  16. That looks great Jim, worth the effort I think
  17. Great pictures, thanks for posting, I like pictures I do. That last one gives a really good impression of the depth you have created, with the background looking miles away.
  18. Thanks for the kind comments guys. The height of the mountain side was something I wanted to create as it engulfs the train (as in real life) There's loads more to do as this was the first piece a just a tester really, but I'll crack on next week with phase 2 (of around 99). Meanwhile had a hour or so testing this evening, helps me unwind after a long day at work. Steve..........
  19. Cheers Keith, yes lots of dry brushing involved here as well. I bought a pack of acrylic paints, think there is 12 tubes of various colours from the Works shop for 3 quid, that did the job nicely.
  20. Finally after painting ( must admit I painted this several times to get the right colour, first time was too brown) and adding a bit of greenary it looks like this of which Im fairly happy with.
  21. After coating the cardboard with PVA glue ( it helps protect the card from the wet palster and also helps the plaster bond to the board) I then covered the cardboard with finishing plaster, roughed it up a bit etc
  22. I am now using hot melt glue to stick cardboard to the Skelton frame work.
