  1. A bit of a break from building came when I decided to fit passengers into my GEX set. These coaches with the extra large windows look (to me) odd without passenger's in them. I fitted around 80 people into the 6 coaches (E bay 1:150 scale figures) I also painted the seat headrests white and the tables a slightly different colour to break up the plain red or blue interiors of these coaches.
  2. Cheers Nigel Work has progressed at a fair pace, mainly due to Covid lockdown and although I still have to go to work, my time off has little else to do but concentrate on this project, still not a bad thing though. Anyway moving on, the layout has now the outer roundy round line in with the station area at the front and the fiddle yard at the rear, the mountain line has been started with the construction of some Helex's
  3. So with the main frame work complete it was time to start putting some track bed down. Now I had a plan, no fancy CAD drawings on a computer, more like back of a fag packet drawing plan but the general idea was to have two lines, a roundy round line which ran around the outer edges of the frame with a hidden fiddle yard and a scenic mountain line which ran between two mountains , up and down over bridges and through tunnels. These two lines will meet in the station area Here is the trackbed for the station is under construction, it is 100mm above the main frame.
  4. Okay, with the frame complete it was carried upstairs into the small bedroom, which I had obtained planning permission off senior management to use as a model railway room. Legs were fitted (9 in total). Now an 8 x 4 layout in a 10 x 6 room does not give a lot of space to work around, so the solution was to fit wheels to the bottom of the legs and this has proved invaluable to moving the layout around to work in tight spots. In this picture some of the legs have been fitted with wheels (the front legs have locking wheels) whilst the rear legs are waiting for Mr screwfix to deliver some more.
  5. Hi folks Ive been interested in Swiss railways for quite some time, in partially the narrow gauge (1 meter) Rhatische Bahn (RhB) and also the standard gauge BLS. I had a collection of RhB loks and stock in HOm scale and planned a layout in this scale, however the space I had would not give me the greatest of runs so a decision in December 2020 was to sell the majority of my HOm stock and using the raised funds together with xmas and me birthday pressys the following month gave me a good start into the Kato N gauge world of Swiss meter gauge stock. Ive been reading through many threads on RM web and decided that I would build an 8 x 4 layout. So day 1, 8th Jan 2021 I started to build the frame work (in the conservatory) as this was the biggest flat space in the house. 2400mm long by 1200mm wide and each square is aprox 300mm
  6. Thanks for this great thread Paul, I am just starting with the Kato N gauge stuff , deciding that although I love my Bemo RhB stock, its just too big a scale (and expensive) for what space I have spare. Now that Kato are expanding there range more and other company's are getting in on the act. What close couplers are you useing and where did you get them from. Cheers Steve.......
  7. Hi Mike Nice Picture, good luck with the show, Im hoping to be there. Steve...……….
  8. Inspired by this months BRM mag and at a loose end today feeling under the weather I decided to have a go at building a temporary small Ingelnook shunting set up. I had some spare track in the loft and 5 sets of points (all left hand !!) So I set about laying the track on the conservatory floor to the required lengths. Loco is running on DCC with sound which makes it more interesting. I only had two buffers so the small coffee table acts as one as well as the settee on the head shunt. Its amazing how much fun you can have and how quick time goes when your just shunting about to get the correct order drawn out of a hat. Im already feeling much better. I'll have a few more goes and then the biggest challenge of all is to get it packed away and tidied up before the Mrs comes home from work.
  9. Cheers Jim, I also have an LGB railway in me garden, hence the livery choice. Steve...…..
  10. The loco running on the Nutbrook semi portable line set up on the conservatory floor atm. Front end details still to be added to the loco
  11. Just a couple of pictures for future ref erence The decoder in position
  12. Cheers Jim Ive found something here https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/103189-the-zimo-swiss-mapping-thread/ After reading the first post several times and completely baffeling meself, an executive decision was taken. I'll leave it as it is...…...
  13. Yes they were working on anilog and they are working on digital in the forward direction (both ends) what I was getting at was getting one single rear light on the loco on the back of the loco as per RhB do
  14. Thanks for all the info guys, I bought a Zimo MX617F Decoder from Peters Spares £20 + post. It has a 70mm cable on it and plugs direct into the loco when the small circuit board is removed. The cable is long enough for the decoder to sit behind the cab area and I used a bit of double sided tape to hold it in position. The decoder has an insolation sleeve on it to save any shorting out. The lights work on the loco in the forward direction but I don't have a rear on one, is this doable or do I have to rewire the loco to do this (which I wont probley do) or is it just a cv on the chip the change. Over to you guys...……..
  15. Thanks Jim, I'll nip down me local model shop see if Malc has any of these
  16. As its nearly that time of year again Ive treated meself to a new Bemo GE4/4II. This is a anilog version but I run digital using Bachmann ez. What recommended decoder would fit best (the instructions say it has a 6pin socket on the loco) Ive not had the lid off yet to see what room is available inside as the Mrs says I cant have it until the big day Cheers Steve...……..
