  1. Good evening,

I really want to tackle this locomotive as a 1/120 model and cannot seem to find a decent set of drawings to work from. Whilst I’m having to compromise on wheels (it makes sense) I want everything else to be perfect and detailed as it should be.

If anyone can scan a set for me, or direct me towards where I can buy a set I’d be grateful.

  2. I’m moving to TT120 as I want a challenge where the end product will look right. British N is too small, OO is compromised, I’ve tried British HO scale and couldn’t get on with it and I’ve dabbled with 3mm scale but found it compromised like OO unless I built and laid my own trackwork. I think the charm for me in 1/120 is that it’s all new, nobody has really done it before so it’s a great chance to do some modelling and test some ideas out.

  3. I think we will see a boom in cottage industries thriving on the success of TT120, as I’ve been looking into it myself for what I plan on creating and what to do in doing so. A 0-6-0 chassis for a Jinty can easily be adapted for other locomotives using a close or similar wheelbase, it’s just a case of making do for now, using items that are there to be used and helping nurture the scale into something great.

At this point in time I’d be grateful for any British outline stock, regardless of origin or manufacture. I’m curious as to how far the chassis from an Austerity or a English Electric shunter can be adapted, hopefully if one of them (or both) do come to the market.

You can alsorun with things like scalescenes 4mm buildings and just print them at 63% and you have an instant 1:120 kit.  However, I understand that card/paper kits are not everyones cup of tea :)

Perhaps a topic in this sub section for card buildings and reducing them may be of benefit? This topic of mine is mainly road vehicles and trams so far, as I won’t be tackling buildings any time soon. (And I won’t be using paper or card as my chosen medium when I do so.)

There has been some H0 RTR British stuff I believe, so not quite!

Very annoying how it didn’t take off, same could be said about Lionel promoting OO gauge as 19mm! I’d have been very happy with that if modern models were made to that track gauge

    Nice job!

I like what you’re doing with this, it’s great to see that you’re pressing ahead with this “new” scale and I’m sure it will confound the naysayers.

    Bravo.

    John

I’m moving mainly to the scale due to the accuracy it provides. OO doesn’t look right, TT3 has the same issues for me, N is just too small and other scales just don’t do it for me. It’s great to see it taking off and even if it doesn’t become “big”, I still aim to model regardless.

    Hi Keith,

I was intending on putting it there, if worthy, but I just wanted to point out that some of us area actually putting our money where our mouths are :)

You’re not alone, I’m tinkering with various TT120 items right now to get items ready for my planned layout.

  8. Thought I’d create a thread for some of the models I am adapting and creating for the scale, going by what is available on the market and what could be done with them.

It doesn’t all have to use 12mm gauge trackwork, Tiny Hong Kong produce a tram model which is close to 1/120 in most dimensions. The trams are distinctive, yet we have some in this country that are similar.

The model will be repainted in a British livery, and I will be using Kato or Tomix tram track to create a small tramway for it.

I wonder how quickly the 3D printer guys will scale existing stuff (or do new stuff) to 1/120 to fit RTR chassis?

Why existing chassis? I'm doing a 0-6-0 Jinty chassis to make use of modified Graham Farish parts. The Bachmann spares website is a great resource for things, even if they don't look 100% right I am going to be happy with 95%+ accuracy for the sake of a few spokes on the driving wheels.

Quite....but if you done a straw poll at a biggish model show and asked what TT was /is answer would in excess of 70% be.... tt oh triang can't get it any more! Nice scale! Or 3mm society!

Room for all scales...I'm sure some lovely minimum space urban stations going to appear with new Heljan 31 and what ever other surprises to pop up in coming weeks...

If not a state secret what is production run in numbers of 31?

You state that 70% of people would vote for it being 3mm to the foot, but that would only be the case in the United Kingdom.

I’m glad that Heljan and Peco are going down the 1/120 route, it’s a shame that we didn’t adopt HO in this country many years as it did have a following from the get go. British HO exists as a scale, so perhaps we will see 1/101.3 become the fringe scale with 1/120 becoming the well supported scale. Wouldn’t be shocked at this stage to see other companies come forward with British outline models. A few years ago I wouldn’t have thought we would have a market of RTR O gauge and OO9 models, but look at the state of play today.

  11. Will do a separate thread for my work (as it’s not Peco) but I’ve decided to head to 1:120 British Outline for my modelling due to size constraints.

I have been working on this for the past couple of days, as a simple loco to get running for my needs alongside some continental items which will be adapted. Will be heading to my local shop soon to get some TT trackwork to work with

  12. Whilst I haven’t purchased any Peco items yet, I’ve decided to go into TT and attempt a basic layout to try ideas out on. I’ve purchased a few adaptable items including a Tiny Hong Kong Tram (1:120) and a Matchbox Leyland National (1:124 so just slightly out of scale) to make a TTn9 tramway, using either Tomix or Kato tram track for ease.

I’ll be checking with my local shop for the Peco bits when they’re available, which means I should get moving with sorting a locomotive and some stock too.

I don't want to pour cold water here, but how is this J70 remotely "ready-to-run"?

I don’t believe it has ever been stated or put as a ready to run item? I merely want to have a quick to build loco for my own purposes first, in a scale I wish to pursue?
