  1. Hi, Anyone any ideas where to buy a cardboard 00 kit for a non-rural church, I have bought and built the Metcalfe version but now it does not seem quite right in my setting which is late 50's to early 60's. I intend to site this amidst a semi-industrial area with quite a few Metcalfe red brick houses forming a terrace so the church needs to be less of a pastoral design that what I believe the Metcalfe version is.
  2. Thanks HLT, Anyone any idea if replacement corduroy pads can be sourced and where please?
  3. Managed to dismantle the CMX after a struggle with the centre cap, I found this difficult to unscrew and was worried that something unknown inside would shear off. However upon its release it proved to have a metal tapered spike for sealing off the bottom opening which allows liquid to drop on the cleaning pad, after a decent cleaning of all parts the liquid was being dispensed. Even with all parts re-assembled there remains a resistance to unscrewing the centre cap to allow for drip release to the pad, pardon my ignorance but what is causing the resistance to opening the centre cap, could it be that the filler cap needs to be released a little to allow air to circulate, I see a small hole underneath the filler cap. Now I need to source where replacement corduroy pads, or similar type, can be bought, any ideas?
  4. Thanks HLT, I did mention originally that my cleaning fluid was nail polish remover which seemed to work well with no discernible residue on the track anyway, I will give this problem a bit more attention this week and hopefully no lasting damage has been incurred.
  5. Thanks to all, The corduroy pad seems okay, it's just the dispenser seems to be stuffed, it was indeed left idle with fluid inside so hoping nothing was damaged but presumably they are built with the understanding that fairly strong chemicals would be used in them? I will do a more detailed investigation with a view to dismantling the dispenser if possible and cleaning it out. I was of the opinion that the brass valve in the centre of the unit controlled the flow rate of the liquid so by regulating this valve open or closed determined how much of the liquid flowed on to the pad.
  6. Hope this is okay to post here... My CMX track cleaner has been laid up for a while, as I have myself, so getting back to a re-start on my layout I find the cleaning fluid is not seeping onto the cloth pad which is remaining dry so it is ineffective, is there a way to check that the outlet which allows the liquid to release onto the pad is perhaps clogged up through non-use, or have I not done something very simple. The CMX unit, while being circa 5 years old, has not been in constant use over that period and I am using my wife's nail polish remover as the cleaning fluid.
  7. Good luck with that, I spent ages searching for a suitable pen/marker to produce white lines on quite a substantial amount of home made platforms, after trying various types of tape I finally sourced a white marker pen in a local arts shop, probably should have started my search there originally. My layout is 00 and after 18 months of being used the lines look quite good, I presume they are never really meant to be a pristine white anyway?

    Hattons offer

All good info, I might chance buying one of the Hornby decoders on offer and see how that gets on, again many thanks.

    Hattons offer

Many thanks for those responses, Just to prove my incompetence with technology I do not know how to post a link, one of the items has the Hattons product code Hornby R8118 TTS which refers to a class 20. As a possible starting point into DCC sound then these represent reasonable value, if so do I just remove the existing decoder and replace them with these ones and all other elements will work as before but with the addition of sound? Sorry to be a complete numpty here but better to show my ignorance than make assumptions One of the items has the Hattons product code which refers to a class 20 Hornby R8118 TTS

    Hattons offer

Hi, as an absolute novice to DCC sound can I ask if anyone has any knowledge/experience of the sound decoder currently on offer from Hattons at circa £32, is this the very bottom of the range and do you just replace the existing non-sound decoder with these? There is a limited range on offer, mostly diesel engines with a smattering of steam engines, I am curious regarding these decoders true value and relevance to the engines they are being listed with
