  1. I'll go for Stamford East as well. Lloyd
  2. Surely you mean Yorkshire joke. Lancashire would have been Th'Urdles Th'Igh Jump Th'Undred Metres Lloyd (Married to a Lancashire lass - from Wigan)
  3. Midland bucolic terminus. About all the Midland Region I remember were through stations, so makes it difficult. Never seen either of them in the flesh, but I thought about Uppingham, then decided on Lakeside. From what I have seen a grand building with a minimal local population. Or does that class more as a Ferry Port? Lloyd
  4. Scottish bucolic terminus? Fort Augustus Pier would probably be too busy with folk changing onto the boat for the run up Loch Ness. I will go for Strathpeffer. Victorian splendour and a reminder that they refused to let the main line to Kyle go through. Lloyd
  5. For a small bucolic rural terminus in WR or SR, I don't think that you can beat Hemyock. Lloyd
  6. Small terminus? I would plump for Kyle. Many a time I have been sitting in the car waiting for the ferry when the train had just come in (I used to live on Skye). On a summer's evening you would see all the tourists (sometimes known as bongleys) gather around the edge of the jetty looking at the sea, then starting to feel the midges - wonderful free entertainment! Also a lovely view across to Kykleakin and just to the left of it, the Loch of the Beastie. There is an amusing story about a road in kyleakin being resurfaced because of a spelling mistake! Another is of the Skye ferry being hijacked to Australia. Lloyd
  7. But Inverness is now officially a city. Lloyd
  8. Small seaside terminus? Difficult choice between the beautiful buildings at Wemyss Bay and the beautiful surroundings of Kingswear. I think that it has to be Kingswear on balance. Lloyd
  9. I thought the line continued to Barry Pier, so not a terminus. Also i think only 4 platforms. I remember when waiting for trains back to Cardiff that they always seemed to arrive through the tunnel. Lloyd
  10. I used to live in Applecross (on the mainland opposite the Isle of Skye). The main road there was once blocked by snow in June! Lloyd
  11. I know that londoners seem to think that that is all that there is, and it keeps on growing, but that is rather stretching it a bit. Also since when did York become a terminus? Is it north or York or south of York that has closed? For my choice it would have to be Paddington. The wonderful sight of all that chocolate and cream until you reached the highly polished Brunswick green and copper. If it is the station structure itself, then either St Pancras with the hotel, or Euston with the arch. Lloyd
  12. One loco that should have been preserved? There are so many. As has already been said, one of the Broad Gauge from GWR perhaps, or something from one of the smaller pre-grouping constituents, especially those such as the Barry, where no loco is preserved. So I think I will go for a Barry Railway B1. Lloyd
  13. I had been thinking just the same myself. Great minds??? Lloyd
  14. I do like that second view from River Lane, despite the over tight curve. Lloyd
  15. Are you sure that the A4 is in a bay platform. It looks to me as though it is in platform 3, the down main, with the two light engines in the down bay. There looks to me to be too much space behind it to be in the bay on the upside, and too little room between the wagons on the Midland lines and the platforms. Lloyd
  16. Gilbert Very quiet on here today. Has the world ended and no one has told us? Lloyd
  17. Tony I admire your work very much, but hope that I am neither sycophantic or myopic, just ignorant. If it looks fairly realistic, and I find yours very realistic, it is good enough for me. I am learning from this site all the time, and very much appreciate all of my 'teachers'. Perhaps the idea of having to build outside valve gear is why the brunswick green from further west is so popular? Lloyd
  18. Gilbert I can think of one of my students that would win that poll outright. Thankfully now retired. Students were not usually a problem. senior management fulfilled that role very well! Lloyd
  19. Gilbert Try dunking that in your tea! Lloyd
  20. For products of Gorton, I would choose Beyer peacocks 20A class for NRZ (or RR as it was then). Lloyd
  21. Clive So you have a touch of the Godfrey's as well, then. Join the club! Lloyd
  22. Gilbert There is something missing. No report on duvet wrestling today? I have just tamed mine. Lloyd
  23. I would go for the Black 5's as well. I remember traveling on a special from Crewe to Carlisle, and back to Crewe via Leeds in the early to mid 1960's. The Brit. 70047 failed at about Tebay, I think, and 45018 was commandeered to take it on to Carlisle. I believe it touched 82 on the downhill after Shap. Upperby shed housed a good collection of withdrawn Duchesses - only time I ever saw them. Lloyd
  24. Gilbert I would echo that. Thanks. Lloyd
  25. Re Titled trains, I think that it will have to be The Red Dragon. Doubly appropriate considering the destination and motive power. Lloyd
