  1. Hello all! Following on from the success of last years competition (see the link) over on the Train Crash Podcast we have decided to run another! These are the results- So, the challenge is to create something within 2ft squared, hence the name. The point of this competition is to be creative and try something new while having a bit of fun. We found that doing research via our Instagram that most people seemed to have lost modelling mojo over the last few months. This competition is a way to help get it back! Rules and regulations: -No more than 2 feet squared-ish (this is flexible as long as you take the mick) -Any gauge or scale -It has to be something railway related (not necessarily a loco or track, just something railway) -It cannot have entered another competition -Submission via email/RMWeb/Instagram with a description of the model and how it was made would be lovely when we do a podcast on the entries by 15th August. Prize- to be decided, but it will be Train Crash Models product or two. Email- thetraincrashpodcast@gmail.com RMWeb- this thread Instagram-thetraincrash Keep us updated for on any progress you make on this thread! Good luck Olly
  2. Erm yeah, this thread will be resurrected and so will the layout. Currently on the way to the potteries is a scale model scenery wrapping paper box baseboard. Currently I have 2 plans in mind (see below) both have coal chutes (something I wish I had done on the original layout) and lean further into the Light Railway with multiple industries being served idea, with a proper loading bay for the other industry at the quayside and as such allowing a varied services to operate. Any suggestions feel free! Oh and I'm ridding myself of that second point as it didn't add anything to the layout and made it loom too overcrowded. Thanks Olly
  3. Lovey stuff, it does have a Fowler look from the side! I agree that the kits are good bashing fodder and with some creativity they certainly scrub up well. Mine is currently being rebuilt to be a little more unique as well as adding some separately fitted handrails too. What did you do to the newer diesel they released? Thanks Olly
  4. That's a common criticism of shapeways products no? Not heard that kinda complaint about them new railway mania kits.
  5. It's been a while! Thanks for the input, I put this project on the backburner as after fitting handrails and painted into into blue I lost interest. However, it's currently drying (very slowly) with a new coat of paint. I shall resurrect this thread! Hopefully I'll be able tot source my parts, thanks for the offer- but I'll try to find some on my end. PS I'm not wading into the LNER debate Cheers again Olly
  6. Hi all, Just enquire as to whether anyone has any pictures of these actually running as colliery engines. I believe that some were used by the newly formed NCB relatively soon after the nationalisation of the industry? Or have I got that completely wrong? Thanks Olly
  7. Far far from perfect, I really don't like the bent up to the tank handrail and that smokebox door dart will be replaced. Also the holes in the body (I put them there my bad for not measuring properly) will be filled.
  8. And onto the Taff Vale Tank. Which I have since learnt is a U1 class. Oh well, at least the fictional history wasn't written. Anyways here it is in all its oddness. The handrails on either side don't match, an extra handrail on the back (like that on the back of the NSR New L Class), missing a set of cab steps (hence why the pictures make it look skewed to one side) and the smokebox handrails are different from the prototype too. On one side the handrail goes up onto the tank as I have seen on some continental prototypes, but I'm not sure if it suits. I may cut it back. Some Lamp Irons were added too, just in generic postions. I believe its had a few rebuilds in model form and as such in the history it will too! Any constructive criticism welcome!
  9. Adding onto the Bagnall front its complete! At least for now. It shall enter the paint shop (shed) tomorrow to begin the painting process. Vey much regretting not adding a 3rd knob.
  10. The handrail saga continues. Staples and proper handrails have been used. The placement is based on Bagnall diesels that have been preserved. Hopefully, holes will be filled. If you are wondering I'm using PVA as I am out of superglue- not ideal I know, but as it will have many layers of primer and paint (the blue really is a shocking paint to apply) hopefully they will add some more protection and structural strength.
  11. Quick little update I think the previous owner didn't follow the instructions as the handrail holes are interesting to say the least. Anyways I've decided to work with it, maybe the loco had a rebuild and a new boiler at some point? I am still to add them to the cab.
  12. And finally a white metal loco its a Taff Vale 01. I think. Being stripped of its Great Western livery I bought it in and awaiting some detailing parts such as handrails, door dart, lamp irons and a chassis too! Not sure whether a fictional BR with text livery or maybe a NCB green. Any ideas welcome! Olly
  13. So my first update. I have 3 projects on the go. All a little different. The first is an Oxford Rail Janus loco- sprayed rather scruffily into a pseudo Express Diary livery. The imperfections will hopefully enhanced in the weathering process! Second is a Hornby Bagnall. Which will be detailed up with separately fitted handrails, cab interior, DCC fitting and a little bigger job is convert it into a 0-6-0 like '3150 Wolstanton No. 3' at the Foxfield. Not 100% accurate, but hopefully an impression without major surgery. The aim is for it to go onto the same livery as the Janus above. How they ended up on a colliery in the Midlands, well that's a story for another time.
  14. Thank you! My apologies, I'll see what I can do in the next few days!
  15. Thanks man! They are nice and with Planet Industrials cab kits I'm tempted by another!
  16. Hornby Dutchess of Buccleuch- to be converted into BR 'City of Stoke-on-Trent' Work done: running in and planning Work to be done: conversion to BR maroon (hopefully no need for a repaint), city of SOT nameplates and numberplates, cabside number changes, real coal, possibly detailing of the underframe forward of the cylinders, crew fitting and weathering. Is there any other bits that can be done to brought the early 2000s Coronations up to more modern standards?
  17. Hornby 2P Work done: weathering using rust on the smokebox and a basic grey wash. Work to be done: DCC fitting, crew fitting, tarp fitting, red rods (maybe?), finalising the weathering (again well worked, but cared for loco) and a real coal load.
  18. Hornby Drummond 700 Class, on loan to the Midland Region from the Southern. Work done: over weathered from Hornby's naff sandy weathering with a grey, rust weathering on the smokebox, tender top and running board as well as a all over grey wash. Oh and DCC sound and firebox flicker fitted (via The Hobby Goblin) Work to be done: complete the weathering to represent a hard worked loco out of region, crew fitting and real coal
  19. Bachmann Midland 1F Work done: DCC fitted, rebranded as NCB from BR (kept the front number plate) and painted rods Work to be done: crew fitted, weathering and possibly some kind of cover for the crew.
  20. Silverfox Models Hunslet D1 Work done: painting, sanding down of moulded details and fitting of handrails (staples) and early weathering, Work to be done: finish the weathering, glazing, crew fitting, Hunslet nameplates and generic industrial numbering so it can be used on a factory layout too.
  21. Kernow/DJM 1361 Class Work done: DCC fitted, running board details and debranding of GWR (nameplates kept like the 15xxs in colliery usage) Work to be done: crew fitting and weathering
  22. Hattons Andrew Barclay 16" 'Katie'- the example at the CVR Work done: DCC fitting, running board details, brass nameplates and number plates. As well as a damaged buffer- although that was due to a fall, but I like the look of it. It looks work worn! Work to be done: Weathering, crew fitting and buffer beam detailing.
  23. Heljan Class 05 Work done: Fitting of a driver in 'Heapton green' overalls, DCC fitting and Railtech 'NCB Area 'B' Group' transfers. Work to be done: Fitting a secondman/shunter, weathering (maybe some replacement door panels, brass number '2' and detail fitting.
