looked at assorted sound chips and they all seem to be generic as none were saved for preservation  so looking at cost which if any would be the best match from the Hornby chips

didnt want to do trial and error 

was hoping someone had a foolproof way of doing it plenty of people must use double slips so wondered how they did it 

i use a template to mark the holes to fix the motor and the slot 

drawing pin goes through the hole in the bar (which is normally in the middle of the bar)

point is put to mid point and the the holes are marked up and drilled 

double slip has its holes on the outside of the bar instead of the centre so a pin in there lets me mark up the 1 hole but the other is under the slip 

think i may chicken out and use surface mounted motors 

dont forget to add some salts to the water washing soda works well

i used this in reverse to remove rust off some scooter parts onto a piece of sacrificial steel 

and yes you need a battery charger to give enough power for it to work well 

but i cnt mark up all the holes due to the width of the slip

how do you mark up fitting pm4 to peco double slip

slip is wider than the point motor

i normally use a template to make out the slot and screw holes but cant use it on the double slip

i use the studs and probe method

have the studs laid out in a line to suit a route which make it easy from my grandson he just runs the probe along the line for out side or inside

but labelled above the studs for my own benefit 

i have just fitted one to a b17 and have the same problem also if i hit stop it still moves  again a bit later as if it had a stored up instruction 

i have some airfix trains that run badly due to very little bush being left

tried Hornby ringfield bushes and the morto will not run unless i loosen all the screws so assume bushes are too long

tried shortening the bushes but then they twist and lose contact due to being a small dia 

any ideas what bushes would work or a source for original

toying with the idea of fitting one of these to amuse the grandson

i have an hattons module that gives the option to flick on one of the out puts 

if i connected to that would it give a puffing effect or would not enough current be generated for long enough for it to work

i have just brought the roco z21 white(yesterday)

first impressions

manual not very good thank god for you tube videos

have the new app and the previous release and find the old one clearer

love the fact it can run on any apple or android phone or tablet

as its a visual interface there is no need to remember numbers

to add a new train just take a picture of the train then set up the  functions again allocating a picture to the function although some of the picture are not the best eg it would be nice to have a key to use as start 

as a first time dcc user i have found it very easy to set up and use and as the layout is shared with my 6 year old grandson the visual way of controlling will be ideal with the added bonus i can control his train at the same time as i control mine and stop it if disaster looms 

grandson has just had a play and he took to it like a duck to water only problem was stopping him sounding the horns all the time
