And a bit more visible progress.. Well it is if you spot the white sleeper ends
The yard now has.. electro magnets fitted.
The magnets use sprung toggle switched (on the "pink" lines.
The one on its own is a dead end on off switch for the yard head shunt.
Better view of the white sleeper ends.
In other news all platforms in place just need some weathering then some station running in boards. Lamps and benches.. more on this soon!

4602 looks good, you don't often see the high sided tenders modelled.

Just need someone to say they've seen George Formby and you're all top-trumped. Best guitarist? I'd say Knopfler personally. But it's largely down to personal taste. Clapton, technically, superb guitarist - but just too "technical" for me, not enough "feeling".
I know it is personal taste but Number one for me has to be Jeff Beck, was a superb musician. sadly missed.

Admittedly sometimes it's probably a good idea to change - a certain old jam and marmalade jar design probably wouldn't go down too well today.
Depends how old you are🙂

Fortunately that one only cost me £26.00... otherwise its an intresting learning curve, I am tempted to send both chassis to Digitrains once I've got them both up and running as they recommend the station alive... if they blow up the decoders then it's another issue...
For a small fee digitrains will solder the ground wire on MX600 they supply.
No connection just a happy customer.

I'd agree that the iron/tip isn't getting hot enough. I've got a temperature controlled one from Circuit Specialists (https://www.circuitspecialists.eu/soldering-desoldering/soldering-stations - though they no longer show the 75W one I've got), which was recommended by, IIRC, @hayfield
I'd also suggest that the rail looks very tarnished, which will also stop the solder sticking. Give the area you're soldering to a good clean up with a glassfibre brush beforehand, so it's nice and shiny.

D138 - 173 were built new with this type, D174 - 193 with one-piece headcode panels. None originally had the small exposed 'sort of triangular' grille below the main side grille either. During the mid-60s refurbishment D138 - 173 had their split headcodes replaced by the single type and all gained the small side grilles. I'm not sure why the headcode replacement was deemed necessary, however many Class 45s were converted to the single type as well - with the exposed small grilles too, making these and Class 46s look almost identical - and I remember reading somewhere that the Peak refurbishment programme would have had both classes tidied up and looking the same, however underfunding meant the cosmetic changes to the Class 45s came to a premature end, with just the more important technical improvements being applied.
My understanding is that D138-173 had central bar in a centre head code box and D174-193 had centre head codes (no central bar)

I have found that colour doesn't scale down very well, eg original loco colour always appears to dark on models.
OF COURSE IT COULD BE JUST MY PERCEPTION.

The lack of any storage on the inner passenger lines on Trenholme Junction was probably a failing in the original design.
On both levels of the layout, the two inner lines are passenger and any movements to and from storage sidings have to cross goods lines.
Additional coaching stock since the build has also added to some congestion.
A further increase in the diesel locomotive stud has caused considerable overcrowding in the diesel shed.
There was to be crossover at the southern end of the Lower East Station which was missed out of the original build. This omission means this station has no run round loop.
The original intention was to have a roadway system incorporated in to the layout and a margin of about 120mm was left empty on the inner edge of the lower level. At the time, there wasn't any suitable systems available. I built a series of scenic 'cassettes' which were place along the margin. These cassettes are now worn and damaged so the have been retired.
After nearly twenty years of operation and the production of over 600 videos have taken their toll on the layout some maintenance was required. There has been some movement between the two buildings which form the train shed and some track has distorted, especially in the Lower Marshalling Yard.
Over the last few weeks I have been addressing the above issues.
A new junction has been installed at the Lower East Station, providing a crossover and an entrance into the two new sidings which run the entire length of the station, marshalling yard and up to Diesel Shed, some 12 metres long. Several entry and exit points allow storage to be accessed at both the station and the shed ends. Significant more space is available for locomotive storage at the shed. This sidings area is installed where the road margin was and a new edge board has been installed (with chroma keying cloth) to allow videoing without limits of the layout edge.
All the points and the tracks in the marshalling yard throat have been replaced. I took the opportunity to replace the insulfrog points with electro frog versions to give more reliable running with the short wheelbase loco’s.
This video shows a train being made up by the 05 shunter and taken away by the Class 24 locomotives.
Oops can’t see a video😕

There was I three days ago, zooming in on a shot I'd already done, and knowing that the light wasn't good enough. But I carried on, and when I looked at the image it confirmed that I had been right. So I spent ages trying to photoshop it, knowing that it would be beyond my capabilities. But on I went to the bitter end, and confirmed that it was indeed beyond my ability. After spending all that time though, I couldn't bring myself to bin it.
Yuk sums it up, I think. Then I went down t'other end and tried something else, and that didn't come out very well either.
The following day was even worse, but we haven't got there yet.
Hi hope you don't mind just had 2 minutes in PS and thought I would see how it turned out, your thoughts please.

Yet another building completed, this time one for a corner site. R Orme & Co had stores in Bakewell and Matlock before selling out to "International". One of the Orme's travellers, Mr Moses Harrison lived in my childhood village and took my mum's order every other Monday. A van would deliver usually two boxes of groceries the following Thursday. Payment was taken on the next order day and the receipt would come with a penny stamp.
Hi Jonathon,
If my memory serves me correctly I am sure there was a R Orme &Co at Darley Dale, it was on Dale rd nth at the junction with Crowstones rd ( near the Grouse pub).

I've had it on daylight setting, but this afternoon I set it to automatic. It doesn't know about LED lights, so there isn't a setting for that, or not one which works anyway. I'll see how these come out when I have a chance to process them. They looked OK in the viewfinder.
If the camera has a “cloudy” setting try giving it a whirl.
