  1. As no one had any info on the above, can I modify the question and ask if anyone can suggest possible sources for either pictures or plans of this building? Thanks Paul
  2. Can I suggest we close this line of discussion unless anyone has anything new to say on my original question...….. Many thanks Paul
  3. Wei, I didn't expect to stir up such a hornets nest!! Thanks anyway to everyone for their input.
  4. ryone. I was unsure whether Aldin refered to Aldin House or Cecil Aldin the 1870 Slough born artist!
  5. I understand from the description of a photo in Slough Museum that the GWR Motor Workshop was c1926 behind the station? Where exactly as it, and did it stay there into the 1950s/60s? I have seen evidence in a photo in the Great Western Journal that there was a vehicle park off of Stoke Poges Lane adjacent to (behind) the six mileage sidings? Many thanks for any information. Paul
  6. I am trying to find out when diesel shunters (08s?) were first used at Slough? I cannot find any documentation of an allocation to Slough shed in my Locoshed books of the period. However Hawkins and Reeve suggest in Great Western Railway Engine Sheds London Division that shunters from Slough went to OOC at some time each weekend to refuel so maybe the Slough shunters were part of the OOC allocation? Any thoughts would be welcome Many thanks Paul
  7. For my 00 model of Slough I am looking for pictures in the period 1955-1963 of the road motor side of Slough Goods Shed. I need to understand how many lorries (mainly mechanical horses I guess) could stand side by side being loaded with goods? Was there just one long loading bay or several short bays? A source of drawings for the goods shed would also be useful? Or any information about how it operated, how many vehicles were based there, or what vehicles were based there? Many thanks Paul
  8. Aldin Siding is mentioned in 1950s/60s WTTs and Carriage Diagrams as a siding near Slough Station in which parcels trains were held to allow faster trains to pass and two three car DMUs were stabled overnight. This location is differentiated in the carriage diagrams from the carriage shed, the East Sidings, and R and M Depot which were also listed as overnight stabling for DMU sets. Was it the loop off the west bound main line to the west of the junction of the Windsor branch, or the through loop adjacent to the Engineers depot? Many thanks for any information Paul
  9. Thanks for the pics and comments guys. Just to clarify, it is the running lines to the Windsor branch not the Windsor bay that I am connecting to the main lines. I am just leaving the link from the Windsor branch to the relief lines out to avoid a complicated set of crossings! Regards Paul
  10. Replying to the three responses to my query:- Thanks guys, your help is appreciated. l will investigate the film mentioned it sounds promising. I was aware of the book on the Slough Industrial railway, but thought that its area was too far west to help me. So now I will investigate that further! I had not yet got to considering signals so the signal pics will be useful in the future. Because I want to run my layout with modern stock as well as 1960-2, I am omitting the middle bay (which was little used by 1962) and connecting the Windsor branch only into the fast lines. I will have to make my engine shed removable and have a car park plate that sits over the engine shed sidings for the modern version. While I have anumber of piucs of the engine shed, I don't have any details for the turntable or coaling stage, so any thoughts on that area would be welcome! Best regards Paul
  11. I am modelling in the years 1960-1962 in 00 gauge the section of the Western Region main line to the west of Slough Station between the platform ends and the junction of the western curve from Windsor with the main line. I am looking for photos of this area in particular of the carriage shed and the goods shed. I have found a file of pictures of the Horlicks factory but they are mainly aerial ones taken in 1926-1930 so do not give sufficient detail! Many thanks for any help.
  12. My WTTs tell me when trains left or passed through Slough but it is not clear which trains (except some Titled Trains and the Diesel parcels cars) turned round in Paddington platforms and returned later and which laid over in OOC sidings, engine shed, etc.
