  1. Two major ones are:-

The Shell Refinery at Teesport, the Junction is still called Shell junction and the bridge over the Wilton branch still bears the Shell logo.

Leeds Oil Rail Terminal on the Hunslett East branch from Neville Hill.

    Other ones are:-

Killingholme Admiralty oil wharfe near Immingham, it was vintage with brick built storage tanks.

    Greetland junction.

Appleby's at Harrogate and Scarborough, these were supplied by a block train from Stanlow that ran to York with it splitting in three portions, one for Harrogate, one for Scarborough and Heavy Fuel oil for Cleveland Potash at Boulby (another lost terminal).

Various terminals in the former ICI plant at Wilton.

  2. Am I right in thinking, that there's a pipe mill in Hartlepool? Would it have taken steel from Redcar?

Hartlepool has two mills and used to recieve coil eye to sky on endless BBA's from Lackenby prior to the closure of the coil mill there.

After that it recieved coil on BCA, BLA and BZA (recoded BAA with gunshot cradles)from South Wales.

It seems to have accepted wide steel plate on BMA/BNA for quite some time but I am not sure if it is a regular traffic?

  3. I had a look at my very early copy of 'Baker' to see if there was anywhere in Essex that might have taken alumina from Burntisland, but there was nothing really obvious. Two possibilities come to mind:-

Might it have been used in the manufacture of high-alumina cement, in which case the cement plants around Thurrock and Greys could be a destination?

Could it have been intended for Norton Abrasives at Welwyn Garden City? Not Essex, I know, but relatively close.

Lafarge at Grays may have been the customer, they were still taking alumina by road in the late 80's/ early 90's.

  4. As a matter of interest Barry, do you know if the BSCO 40xx were originally Dia 1/420, and possibly visited SRW for modification, or just a "knock off" of the BR Ashford design ?

The SRW built ones appear to be a copy of the BR diagram, however I am not sure about the stanchions!
