  1. Afternoon all... Hope you're all well. We're still really busy behind the scenes working on lots of new kits. Slowly converting a few things to other scales. This week we've been working on the KX057 Barn/Store in O gauge and it's scaled up really nicely. The kit features pre-weathered wall textures (brick & stone included) plus fully detailed, posable sliding door, rear door, roof trusses and beams. And just as with the OO scale version you can build it as either a pristine or derelict building. The doors are supplied unpainted and can be easily painted and weathered with artists acrylics and your favourite weathering powders. For more details and to order yours, please visit https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx057-o-barn--store---o7mm143-15834-p.asp Cheers J & the team
  2. Hi All. Been a bit busy over the past few months with family stuff and a million other things. But I've managed to find a bit of time to get creative this week and have been working on this rather handy Utility Building / Plant Room. It's based on a building about 100 yards from our Truro factory which is part of the local waterworks. The kit comes with red brick and grey rendered wall finishes as standard and includes lots of laser cut detail including glazed casement windows, weathered bitumen roof, doors which can be posed open or closed as well as external cabling and drainpipe. It would look right at home as part of a larger industrial/factory complex, maintenance depot, waterworks or as a general, modern image lineside building. 3. Morning all... Slipped this one out under the radar a bit last week as we were pushed for time, but it's been well received so far. TX280-OO Rusty & Weathered Corrugated Iron is a less weathered version than our TX012-OO and comes in a pack of 5 sheets. Ideal for industrial roofs, cladding on farm buildings and much more. Rendered entirely by hand to ensure no repeats and make it as realistic as it possibly could be. For full details and to order yours please visit: https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/tx280-oo-rusty--weathered-corrugated-iron-sheeting---oo4mm176-14163-p.asp We're also toying with the idea of doing these as self-adhesive polyester sheets so they'd been completely waterproof too. Cheers J
  4. We've had this discussion many times here. Literally, nobody searches for 4mm scale stuff in any major search engine. We could have the best products in the world but if we marketed them as P4 or 4mm scale instead of OO we wouldn't be around for long as a company. :)
  5. Hi All, Just a quick post about one of this weekend's new releases. We've been working hard on this behind the scenes for a couple of weeks and it's ready to grace your layouts. This laser-cut building kit for an OO gauge coach house and stables is perfect for any era model railway layout or 1:76 scale diecast diorama. Whether you're creating a rural or country scene, or a more gritty urban industrial scene, this versatile kit can be used as a coach house or repurposed as an industrial building or even a dockside fisherman's cottage with attached boat storage and net loft. Lots of possibilities and lots of detail including the prototypical uneven roofline often seen on buildings of this age. For more details and to order yous, please visit: https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx087-oo-coach-house--stables---oo--4mm--176-14033-p.asp Cheers J
  6. Morning all. We're getting back to basics this week on our blog with a look at What's The Best Model Railway Track Plan? The answer is, there probably isn't one! But there's a number of things that need to be considered before you take the plunge and start building a layout: Era Region Space available Budget In our latest blog post, we take a look at all of these in turn to help you choose the right size layout for the space & budget available. J
  7. Fantastic! Thanks for the order. We don't do legs as most folks tend to opt for things like the builders tressles that Aldi do from time to time. Cheers Justin
  8. This week we've also been helping you guys replace the rather awful coloured curtains that seem to be a little too prevalent on layouts these days with a realistically better upgrade. It's something I spotted by accident while walking Lola a couple of weeks back... curtains have the linings / light coloured side facing the road, not the brightly coloured side. So why do we all focus on amazing detail on locos, rolling stock and buildings, then ruin the whole lot with brightly coloured, definitely not realistic paper curtains? We wandered all around our village and didn't spot one coloured pair. Then we travelled around 3 miles of roads around where we used to live on google maps and spotted just two coloured pairs out of thousands of windows! So we've started (tongue in cheek) the campaign for Realistically Better Curtains! I spent the afternoon yesterday hand rendering a set of 54 pairs of curtains and 15 blinds to help you upgrade your houses and shops. We have them available as a printed sheet for the princely sum of 99p. Just click the link below. OO gauge curtains Hope you like them J
  9. Sam, my understudy I suppose you could call him, has been hard at work on this for the past week or so... and he's done a lovely job of it. It's based on a real bus shelter which was originally a tram shelter that's still in use today on the corner of Fosse Road North and Groby Road in Leicester. It's got quite a distintive design to the rear windows making it a real eye-catcher. Great for any model railway layout or diecast bus diorama set in the 1930's onwards. He's put lots of detail into the kit including downpipes & hoppers, fully weathered textures (pristine and heavily weathered versions with grafitti) with hand rendered brickwork, a very nicely textured tile floor and much more. Ideal for bus & tram dioramas as well as adding an extra focal point to a model railway layout. For more information, please follow this link : OO gauge bus shelter kit Cheers J
  10. Evening all... Just about to sign off for the night and just got time to give you the heads up on this weekend's new releases. We've got two cracking new kits for you this Friday evening... First up... KX080-OO Terraced Houses / Cottages in OO/4mm These have been a bit of a labour of love over the past fortnight, with lots of tweaks, revisions & additions. They come with a choice of Flemish bond red brick or pointed stone wraps (matching texture sheet coming next week). Lots of lovely detail including panelled doors, fully weathered textures, glazed sash windows and even fancy pants downpipes. A very enjoyable build that will look perfectly at home in any rural village or town scene. Really pleased with how these have turned out and I'll be building a red brick version over the coming weeks to show what it looks like in that finish. For more information please click this link: OO gauge terraced house kit Cheers J
  11. Wow! Love it! It works great with the wall textures. Gives it more depth. So glad you like the kit.
  12. Afternoon all. It's that time of the week again where we let the new releases out into the big wide world! We've been working our socks off again this week as well as tearing our hair out with machine issues... So we have three new kits for you this week which I'm sure you'll find a few uses for... KX095-OO Small Platform Shelter Loosely based on thee platform shelter at Levisham Station on the NYMR, but we've tweaked it a bit and included a choice of exterior and interior finishes, so if you think "that's a nice building" you can customise it a bit to make it fit perfectly on your layout. It's got loads of detail including glazed windows, rear downpipe, a choice of enamel signs and internal bench seating too. Really enjoyed creating this! Full details available on our website at https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx095-oo-small-platform-shelter---oo4mm176-13428-p.asp KX096-OO Privy / Outhouse Twin Pack Sam's been working hard on these this week, with just a small amount of guidance from me. We wanted to try a small kit which would help him get to grips with all aspects of kit design but without it melting his brain. The privies have turned out really nicely, with weathered interior and exterior brickwork, laser cut pre-weathered roof tiles and even a loo inside! They're simple to build and are great for detailing a backyard on layouts set in the early 20th century onwards. Full details available here https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx096-oo-privy--outhouse-pack-of-2-13423-p.asp LX554-OO Downpipes, Drainpipes & Soil Stacks We've been including laser cut downpipes with a number of recent kits and quite a few folks have asked if we can make them available separately. So we have! Simple to work with and because they're laser-cut they're square rather than round. But when they're painted up and installed on a building you can't really tell from normal viewing distance. The pack contains a variety of straight lengths of piping in two thicknesses, both with and without brackets. There's also a selection of elbows, Y's and hoppers too. So lots to play with! Full details available on the website at: https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/lx554-oo-downpipes-drainpipes--soil-stacks---oo4mm176-13434-p.asp This all for this week folks. Lots more new stuff in the works for next week. Have a brilliant weekend & keep on shuntin' J
  13. Afternoon all! Drumroll please... our first N gauge kit in what seems like forever has just gone live on the website. The N gauge version of the KX057 Barn / Store is now available to order. Featuring as much laser cut detail as we can pack into such a space, the barn can be assembled as either a pristine or derelict barn. The kit comes with pre-weathered roof slates plus a choice of brick or stone wall finishes for both the interior and exterior, roof truss detail as well as a choice of sliding or hinged door. And we've even included a laser engraved cobble floor too... just like the real thing. Great for farm scenes or for use as an industrial/railway stores building... What will you use yours for? Find out more and order yours now at https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx057-n-barn--store---n2mm1148-13389-p.asp Keep on Shuntin' J
  14. Thank you. I do have another milking parlour in my sights though if you need something a bit older in appearance.

  17. Afternoon all. Just adding this week's new releases to the website. The first is the snappily titled KX093-OO Ultra-Low Relief Small Modern Industrial Unit End Wall in OO/4mm scale. It's based on the end wall of our own factory unit on the outskirts of Truro and is super simple to build, with MDF cores. The whole build takes under 30 mins from start to finish and features high resolution, weathered paper wraps to give the industrial unit a realistically better finish straight from the pack. At 205mm wide, 75mm tall and 8mm thick it's perfect for adding a little 3D realism to the backscene on your OO gauge model railway layout or 1:76 diecast diorama, without it taking up much space at all. Also included is a pair of air conditioning units and a choice of 4 different building signs, including a Scale Model Scenery one should you fancy having a model of our unit on your layout! We've been asked many times over the years so thought we'd finally put an SMS sign in a kit! If you fancy one for your layout, you can find out more and order yours at https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx093-oo-low-relief-small-modern-industrial-unit-end-wall---oo--4mm--176-13357-p.asp
  18. Also new this afternoon is this twin pack of 1970's style diesel cement mixers. They're supplied fully painted and detailed so they're ready to use straight from the packet! Cheers J
  19. Just adding a few new ranges to the website today. First up we have three new gravels & basing scatters. SP007 Arid Earth The is exactly the same as the SP006 Arid Earth but it's smaller pot making it ideal for small layout & dioramas. Run it through a seive and it makes a brilliant top soil for cultivated fields, alotments & building sites. BR011 Rocky Canyon This is a unique blend of red clay/sand with large, lighter coloured boulders & rocks. Ideal for hotter, desert like terrains but also quarries and clay pits. BR012 Dark Grey / Charcoal Gravel Ideal for for quarries, wagon and lorry loads in areas where stone appears much darker & greyer. Grain size approx 1mm to 3mm More to come shortly! J
  20. Evening all. This ultra-low relief industrial unit kit has been in our range for a number of years now but we'd never converted over to laser cut base layers and the textures were in need of a little upgrade to bring it up to our current standards. So we set about completely redesigning the kit this week... While we were happy with the overall appearance, it's based on a real building somewhere near Lee Circle car park in Leicester, we stripped the whole kit right back. Swapping layered card from solid MDF cores makes it far quicker to build and gives a much crisper finish to the corners and edges. There's not need to layer up the main wall or overlays now as they're made from 4mm & 2mm MDF. The brick, stone and cladding textures have been complete reworked from the ground up using our latest techniques for generating photorealistic brickwork from scratch. The new techniques make it much easier to kit-bash our buildings and the brick & stone textures. As with the previous version, all the components are preweathered, giving you a realistically better finish straight from the packet. The fire exit door has been completely reworked, with new wraps and a choice of several different colours, each with damage & dirt effects. A laser-cut frame is then overlayed to give the door depth and added realism over the original, flat, printed verion. A choice of 5 assorted company signs is also included along with upgraded CCTV cameras and reworked air conditioning units. Both of which will be available as separate kits shortly if anyone needs them. The kit is super simple to build and is a great one for anyone taking their first steps into kit building. But there's plenty of detail to keep the seasoned modeller happy... Once installed up against the backscene of your layout it'll look just like the real thing! And needing just 6mm of depth it'll fit in even the tightest of spaces. For more information and to order yours, please visit https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx018-oo-ultra-low-relief-modern-industrial-unit---oo4mm176-13328-p.asp Cheers J
  21. There should be no problems fitting an assembled BB017 or 29 in a 77L box. Yes the boards are only joined at baseboard level. If you want a permanent joint at the top we're happy to supply an offcut of 4mm MDF which can be glued at the top of the backscene joint. It's what we did on our Dunn Street Yard layout. The BB020 is actually a thing. It's a special we did for BRM magazine and it's actually just 2 x BB021 boards. Thanks J
