So in the first batch 4D-005-000 is that now 59002 or 59005 in early Yeoman livery? Some retailers conflict! Suggestions are due APR-JUN 22.....but not holding my breath (or I might die given this saga).

Can someone kindly educate me as to the key differences 59001-004 to that of 005 in the original livery (plus any body differences)?

    Thanks

Main one is the exhaust port on the silencer went from left to right. Only 59001-4 as build had it like this. Also as previously pointed out some of the 59/0's were repainted in the original livery and there were slight changes, mainly to the cantrail stripe

Look here http://www.hondawanderer.com/Class_59.htm, compare 80's/early 90's pics of the 59/0's to late 90's. Not sure when it happened exactly but the 59/1 and 59/2's were built with the revised location

Cleveland didn't get OLE until about 5 years after the P train was withdrawn.

What about the brake testing when pairs of 37's pushed an unpowered APT rake up to 100mph......

The 59 was announced over five years ago. The World's a different place now - the RTR 00 model railway market has even more players in it and faces a squeeze with substantial price increases. A general reduction in UK disposable income is in the pipeline too with hikes in energy prices and National Insurance due later this year. It's an option for Dapol, no more than that.

I've highlighted the main issue here. Granted global issues that have happened would be unheard of 5 years ago, but normally models dont take this long to appear, at least in 2015 they didnt, but they are now, a certain Barwell based manufacturer being a good example, being rapidly followed by a Margate based one...

You wont see it this side of June 2022 either, so second half maybe. By then it will be 6 years..........

If cash becomes an issue, then maybe Dapol could do what they did before, namely sell some molds to Hornby? Dapol could then operate a more limited OO range and focus new investment on N and O gauge and OO gauge commissions.

That wont happen again, Dapol were undergoing a period of re-organisation and felt they couldn't compete in the OO Loco market at the time, a decision that they have since reversed. They have announced the intention of a OO scale 59 for example......

Much longer and we will have some conspiracy theories ….didn’t it take less time for GM to build and deliver the real ones ?

Correct - The first order for four Class 59s was placed on 16 November 1984 and the locomotives arrived at Southampton on 21 January 1986....... Would have taken less only the design had to fit inside the UK loading gauge, most of the components were well tried and tested

Tick tick tick…. End of the year nearly. Any news on these?

    Guy

It is unusual for the 'accompanying wagon range' to be announced, developed and brought to market despite a global pandemic and shipping delays due to a container ship becoming stuck, and the lead locos still being no closer to market

Shame, look at 17:35s, a scum bag appears to be throwing some sort of a missile at the train. Pops up out of the long grass and throws something at the passing train, then ducks back down into hiding. Watch it on the video. They are not waving

Oh crumbs, isn't that disgraceful and naughty behaviour. You sound very cross, you should telex the local garda barracks immediately indicating your great indignation at this most heinous of actions.

Heres some food for modelling your A class i found on the tube, give the guy a like as it is not my content.

looks like a good time was had by all.......

For those unsure about the IRM EMD soundchip, this is the perfect comparison, including the horns at each end sounding different, they had a very distinctive growl at high revs and this is heard several times throughout this video, starting at around the 6 minute mark. Depending on wind direction you could hear them a fair distance away, even miles...... Just ignore the chap hanging off the front cleaning the windscreens during the shunt at Waterford :D

  9. Oxford make an excellent DAF 2800 / 3300 which is ideal for this era. They also make the Scania 110 for 70's stuff, they were mostly gone by the early 80's though. Loads of Stobart Dafs going cheap at present, remove the curtainsider body and make a flatbed trailer with container locking points

@JCB 3C no.2 definitely - the skelly is a gap in the market, the oxford 5 axled one aside which is a tad modern for the period

O/T from 59s (but we have to fill in the waiting time).

Sure we would still be waiting for the dj version, imagine all the excuses he would use

I have a starter DCC Controller a want to upgrade my dcc controller for a serious(ish) layout, with Dcc sound, is Upgrading to Hornby elite worth it for this?.

Short answer is No - avoid Hornby DCC equipment completely. They might be a leading brandname in model railways but their DCC equipment leaves a lot to be desired. My personal recommendation would be a NCE Powercab but it depends on your budget. Dont skimp on control equipment

I'm a N Gauge modeller and I was a bit nonplussed when Dapol released their version without MU cables as at that point I'd only ever seen a single picture of one like that, so I presumed that it was a rare occurrence, but now I know that it wasn't. Having said that I can't imagine that many people model the very late steam/blue diesel period.

Initially D400/1 came with them fitted from the factory, the other 48 followed without and had them added later, as you can see the plating where the MW jumpers will be fitted when 2 locos became standard on Crewe to Glasgow runs up to 1974 when the WCML was fully electrified

  13. Ill wait and see what the retailers will sell them at

But people will give out no matter what. The bar has been raised in RTR Diesel and Electric locos, Bachmann have reacted accordingly and people are still moaning.

The way some people go on, its like saying development of the motorcar should have stopped when the Ford Model T came out and we should have stuck with them......

Cant win, even if they were half the price, or double.

    Same old

Also glad they've decided to do 59005 "Keneth J Painter" and not 59002 "Alan J Day" in FY Silver, as fits my modelling timeframe.

Saves them having to make the earlier version of the silencer as initially fitted to 59001-4
