  1. Good evening all, Frogs and buffers for you! Those familiar with Latin may know that the Toad is (not only a brakevan) 'Bufo -Bufo' if I recall correctly - and that's close enough to 'buffer' for me to claim a tenuous link between these two ads on a Sunday night!
  2. Just noticed on the 'Dialoy' advert, does it really say that they supply diecast windscreens!!!!! (obviously they must be making reference to the frame part - I hope)
  3. I know what you mean, imagine the potential for slight misalignments between the sliding doors and the rest of the body shell with two manufacturers involved. Unless they had a jig with the doors in place and fabricated the rest of the body around them?
  4. A little something on this stormy afternoon... I'm sure 'Len Fairclough' was a character in coronation street :)
  5. Hi all - appreciate that this is an old thread, but does anyone know if the DC kits body only class 108 dmu comes with glazing? Cheers!
  6. Perhaps the pensions ad is not particularly railway related, but look at the lovely artwork on the advert for the railway ticket suppliers 'A&V. Schulze'
  7. I can almost smell the Creosote in that Garston picture!!!!
  8. I agree, but what about the location, it looks like the line West of Hunts Cross station but looking back East towards Widnes?
  9. Some nice internal carriage fittings from Beresford, and an even nicer old LMS Merseyrail unit on the advert for rectifiers. Interesting that in the early 60's Hewittic Rectifiers already had over 60 years of experience - they must have been real pioneers!
  10. 1:1 scale transfers and suspension from our advertisers tonight!
  11. This evening we have fascinating adverts relating to Insulated fish plates ('Lignatum' sounds Latin to me) and an important announcement from a chilled cast iron wheel manufacturer :) - or should that be a manufacturer of chilled cast iron wheels!?
  12. Two adverts for you this evening - Something to get your hands dirty ( The Armstrong Oiler), then something to clean them with ('Saroul' - to BR specifications no less!)
  13. Good evening all - another advert for you, carriage washers ideal for filthy MK1's or even the odd Double Decker Bus! What's that in the second picture down? Is the picture distorted it looks a little 'squat' perhaps it's a little something from the Irish loading gauge?
  14. Good evening everyone, here we have a rather basic advert to say the least! Does what it says on the tin - as it were :)
  15. Cheers Mol - top info! I had no idea that the trials shown had ever taken place with the steam crane. I think I commented on one of the other threads where someone had posted a picture of the larger floating cranes used elsewhere that you mention - or was it on this thread? Perhaps I should scroll back a bit and check!
  16. I'm not even going to comment on 'ring discharge grabbing!!!!'
  17. I haven't posted anything for a while, so here is a nice old advert for cranes (the lifting type, not the birds!)
  18. Ahh, yes - I see the similarities. I wonder why the Americans would not just use what was available in the countries that they were looking to use the railways of?
  19. Sorry this ad for Alco has gone on the slant! They seem to have done some 'limited clearance' models, though they still look pretty big!!!.
  20. A rival for SKF bearings this evening. There's something about that European carriage that makes me think it would be a very smooth runner (not sure what!). That's what you'd want on a sleeper though isn't it?
  21. Good morning all - perhaps some inspiration for those replicating the lesser modelled aspects of carriage interiors!
  22. Also keep in mind that it is unlikely to receive a charge from 'empty to full' on each occasion, it only has to have replenished what it has used on it's journey. With the costs having fallen per kWh of capacity for more durable chemistries, there is now a better business case for having a battery with more capacity. Ultimately though, as others have said you can only get out a percentage of what you put in over a given time with any battery. With a lifespan measured in 'charge cycles' the less times you have to go from empty (say 80% SOC) to full (100%) the longer the life of the battery.
  23. I though that there already was a turn back facility at Malvern Wells?
